* OK, let’s try this again, shall we? Rate it

…Adding… Welp, it’s been taken off her YouTube account. It was there yesterday, I swear. I’ll try to get another copy.

…Adding More… While I find another copy, you can watch her debate last night with Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka…

I think that ad sums up Sheila’s campaign.

Sheila & Judy had a little forum on Chicago Tonight yesterday. At least that video is watchable.

  4. - DuPage - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 11:45 am:

    Sheila who?

  5. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 11:46 am:

If you’re an ENT, even you would ask that the camera backs away…

  6. - OneMan - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 11:48 am:

You sure it wasn’t just an edited Quinn ad from 4 years ago…

  7. - OneMan - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 11:52 am:

It turns out it was just the first 30 seconds from the My Name Is Simon skit from SNL

Well you know my name is Simon and I like to do drawerings…

  8. - Voice of Reason - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 11:52 am:

The TV static is actually better than the ad. Sorry/Not sorry, Shelia.

  9. - OneMan - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 11:53 am:

    Rich…

    It could be this…

OneMan is being a cheekymonkey today. Nice reference.

  11. - Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 11:54 am:

Ad is pretty bleh. By the way, I’m related to Paul Simon. And JBT has a big pension, help me get one too.

  12. - Wordslinger - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 11:55 am:

Geez, if you’re Simon or whoever the Republicans are running for AG and SOS, how do you even go through the motions?

You could have stayed in bed since March and the results on Nov. 4 will be the same.

  13. - A guy... - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 11:56 am:

I saw it last night twice, on network TV. I assume it’s the same ad; this one isn’t coming up for me. I’ll generously give her a “pass”, but for pete’s sake, your dad was a Senator, why did you skip the Dentist? I’m not being snarky as much as pointing out that this was the most disruptive thing in the onset of the commercial.

Running this is a waste of money at this point.

  14. - OneMan - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 11:58 am:

When you have to lead off with who your father was, it isn’t a strong ad.

Also keep in mind a decent number of voters will have no real clue on who Paul Simon was and/or will think I didn’t know Paul Simon and Eddie Brickell had a kid that old….

  15. - Toure's Latte - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 11:59 am:

JBT is the rare GOPer that appeals to both parties. A gubernatorial run next cycle would be interesting. She has a track record of being no-nonsense as Comptroller.

  16. - Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 12:01 pm:

Speaking of AG and SOS, and Gov for that matter, I look forward to Sheila Simon criticizing the incumbents for their pensions.

  17. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 12:02 pm:

If you are younger than 36, you never saw Paul Simon on a ballot you cast.

It’s like her lil sign - Charlie Brown Christmas Tree-ish.

  18. - Streator Curmudgeon - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 12:07 pm:

Well, if you are an Illinois employee, you earn a pension, and I doubt that Sheila will be returning hers, so that’s a moot point.

Maybe Sheila, like Quinn, will be governor some day, but she has to keep her face before the public and hold lesser offices to move up. But taking on JBT was not a wise move.

Except for diehard Dems, I don’t think this ad is going to convince anybody.

  19. - 1776 - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 12:09 pm:

Glad that she’s not playing on her dad’s name! Also, presume that she is voting for Oberweis since “30 years is too much.”

  20. - Anonymous Retiree - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 12:12 pm:

Not sure why she thinks invoking her deceased father and the bow tie laying in front of a family picture helps. Oswego Willy is right, most voters do not know who Paul Simon is and they absolutely do not know who Sheila Simon is or was.

  21. - PolPal56 - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 12:14 pm:

I would probably vote JBT for Gov again. I sure wish that I’d had that choice this year!!!!!!!!!!

  22. - OneMan - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 12:15 pm:

    Ron
are you looking at my bum?

  23. - OneMan - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 12:26 pm:

Not sure why she thinks invoking her deceased father and the bow tie laying in front of a family picture helps.

    What else does she have…

  24. - Ghost - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 12:27 pm:

    Sheila who?

  25. - Responsa - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 12:27 pm:

“I’m from Southern Illinois and we mispronounce many words” OKaaaay.

  26. - Earnest - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 12:29 pm:

Is any kind of ad equating pensions with somehow being bad going to appeal to her voter base? What was she thinking? I think I’m just still sour on her for the way she bailed on Quinn.

  27. - Anonymous Retiree - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 12:31 pm:

and the reason she cut her budget by 30% is because Quinn and the GA did it for her, she had no choice

  28. - D.P.Gumby - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 12:49 pm:

I must be the only one who has never been impressed by JBT. What has she ever done?

  29. - Because I say so... - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 12:58 pm:

I’m a die hard Dem and even I’m not voting for her.

  30. - Arthur Andersen - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 12:58 pm:

Woulda been better had she used “Slip Slidin’ Away” as the music track.

  31. - Team Sleep - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 12:59 pm:

That was a lot of stuff to squeeze into 30 seconds.

  32. - Anonymous 88 - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 1:38 pm:

I’ve only had time to watch the first 6 minutes, but JBT comes off much better — as one would expect, given her experience as comptroller (and former treasurer). Simon’s glib “Too much” response to the question about the dollar amount of unpaid bills, and JBT’s quick and specific response, made Simon look like JBT’s assistant — not ready to step up just yet. I actually like Shelia Simon, and was a big fan of her dad’s (I cherish my run-in with him at an airport as my best memory from Illinois politics). Just the same, I’m going for JBT. Like PolPal, I wish she were the GOP’s nominee for gov this year. Though I’m a Dem, I voted for her against Blagojevich in ‘06 and would be glad to choose her over Quinn this time. If only!

On a related note: Still waiting for this state, progressive as it is, to elect a woman governor! Maybe Dawn Clark Netsch and JBT weren’t perfect candidates — but one of these days, one of these days.

==What was she thinking? I think I’m just still sour on her for the way she bailed on Quinn.==

This was the best thing that happened to Quinn, in my opinion. Paul Vallas is heads and shoulders above Sheila as a running mate.

I wish Vallas would have ran against Quinn in the primaries. He would’ve got my vote.

  34. - Max's Mom - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 2:18 pm:

Lame and pathetic. With Shelia leading in on her father as her claim to fame is sad. Sheila is not her father. The audacity of her entitlement is stunning. Is she going after her pension or other Democrats? Judy trounces Sheila in the debate. Love Judy’s line …I really admire your ability to make your clothes

  35. - walker - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 2:29 pm:

===What has she [JBT] ever done?”===

Told the unvarnished truth about the budget, without spin, evasion or exaggeration. That makes her stand out as unique IMHO.

  36. - ??? - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 2:41 pm:

Max’s Mom - I watched the debate last night on Chicago Tonight. I also laughed when each candidate was asked to comment on their opponent’s greatest strength and JBT cited Sheila’s ability to make her own clothes.

  37. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 2:56 pm:

    If I could add?

One of the few adults that people turn to in Government.

    Period.

  38. - k3 - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 3:32 pm:

ugh. So sad, she’s a very nice lady. But such a horrible political move running against JBT.

  39. - circularfiringsquad - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 3:55 pm:

    A+++
Should have run for treasurer would have left Billboards in the dust

  40. - Anon - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 7:44 pm:

    Which red head is Topinka?
