“I know Pat Quinn.

“His push for the minimum wage is essential.

“If you think women should get equal pay for equal work,

“If you want our kids to have quality pre-school, have a chance to go to college -

“If we want a governor who shares our values, then we need Pat Quinn as Governor of Illinois.

“Remember, you can vote early, starting on October the 20th.

“So let’s just get this done and vote for Pat Quinn.”

    Weak.

Remember these were rallies to get folks to sign up for GOTV activities, not meant to be campaign ad material.

  2. - Spliff - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 10:13 am:

The vocals stink it also is rushed on the images of the governor. They knew this was going to be an ad they could have spent a little time getting it set up and executed better.

  3. - Louis G Atsaves - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 10:13 am:

She sounds muffled. What could have been a great ad seems marred by poor technology. Looks rushed.

  4. - RNUG - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 10:16 am:

Many it’s too early in the morning, but the ad is too loud, too busy and the audio is off. Thankfuly it was short.

It’s almost bad enough to make me rethink my plans to vote for Quinn.

  5. - John A Logan - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 10:18 am:

I think its a good spot. B+ It’s not a home run, but a solid double.

  6. - 2 Cents... - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 10:20 am:

Not the best spot. Clearly geared for a very specific demographic. If that demographic comes out to vote as it has during the last two presidential elections - Quinn wins. Of course, Rauner is doing everything he can to buy off that demographic. Should be interesting to say the least.

  7. - Responsa - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 10:22 am:

Strange ad. I think they would have been better off using sound for her that did not remind everybody of the bad, echo-ey, impossible-to- understand announcements that annoy people in airports and noisy sports venues. If the campaign considers the message itself to be irrelevant– and all they want to achieve is to let people know that Quinn has the support of the first family– then they better hope voters are watching the screen.

  8. - Wordslinger - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 10:22 am:

I like it. They’re making the best use of live footage.

That brings with it some production issues, but you trade that for the passion.

Pew has her favorables at 62 percent nationwide. I imagine she’s off the charts in the sweet spot they’re going for here.

  9. - Anonymous - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 10:24 am:

She should have ended it by saying , and yes I’m finally proud to be a American.

  10. - Lunchbox - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 10:27 am:

“So let’s just get this done”

Great closing. Nothing gets people fired up and ready to go like a line someone says before doing something they don’t want to but have to do (vacuuming, cleaning the bathrooms.)

“She should have ended it by saying , and yes I’m finally proud to be a American.”

Well done, but she would have been lying.

  12. - A guy... - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 10:30 am:

Pat clearly believes he has not completely secured the AA female vote. Those are the voters who are regular attendees of the very large congregational churches in the communities. This is a reaction ad.

That being said, I think it’s good and could spillover to young White women too. It’s a strong pass. But he’s securing, he’s not adding here.

  13. - Wordslinger - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 10:35 am:

Here comes A Guy with the Baghdad Bruce stuff.

You’ve been on a roll with predictions lately. — tell us what Rauner’’s percentage will be among black women?

    It’s about driving turnout.

Too bad there aren’t any national Republican figures who could do more good than harm for Rauner.

  14. - Anonymous - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 10:37 am:

    - Pat clearly believes he has not completely secured the AA female vote. -

    LOL, Righty-O Axelrod.

Another psychic prediction I’m sure you’ll forget later.

  15. - South of Sherman - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 10:38 am:

Was that “Let’s just get this done”?

Or “Let’s just get this over with…”

  16. - OneMan - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 10:40 am:

    Congratulations South of Sherman…

You just won the internet today.

  17. - Anonymous - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 10:44 am:

This is not a closer ad.

  18. - Walter Mitty - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 11:00 am:

At Least she got HIS name right… Which as of late, she has struggled!

  19. - Anonymous Retiree - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 11:01 am:

Fired up and ready for a new GOVERNOR!

  20. - Put the Fun in unfunded - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 11:10 am:

“For the first time in my life, I’m proud of Illinois!”

  21. - Ghost - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 11:25 am:

    Meh vanilla ad

  22. - No Longer A Lurker - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 11:25 am:

Hey Rich. I see a video of the b-52’s in place of the Quinn ad. Is there something wrong with my browser or your site.

  23. - No Longer A Lurker - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 11:26 am:

That should be………..”your site?” in my last post.

  24. - Very Fed Up - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 11:47 am:

““His push for the minimum wage is essential.”

How is this a credible campaign issue on his part? He has been governor for 6 years with super majorities. Not something to “push for” but just show leadership and get done without delay.

  25. - Anonymous - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 12:22 pm:

At least she knew his name! Is the ad only for Chicago? I can’t imagine Michelle Obama helping Quinn downstate.

  26. - Gone, but not forgotten - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 12:28 pm:

Her quote could have ended as follows: “Let’s get this done”…so I don’t have to do this anymore since the people don’t like my husband. I don’t either, and I’m past due for a vacay in Hawaii, Spain, China, Africa (oh wait, no, Ebola), or anywhere where Barry is not.

  27. - Just The Way It Is One - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 1:34 pm:

    Brilliant.

  28. - Wordslinger - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 1:57 pm:

Gone, you missed some Fox talking points. Do you still get your ticket punched for a free burrito, or just the thrill of parroting what you hear on TV every day, year after year?

    It’s about driving turnout.

Too bad there aren’t any national Republican figures who could do more good than harm for Rauner.===

don’t know what the AA woman vote will be for Pat Quinn or Bruce Rauner. Not sure what turnout will be either. My guess is that both campaigns have good internals that offer more clues to both. I’m left to watch what they do. He’s spending precious air time still appealing to this base he’s been able to take for granted. Someone believes he needs to.

Not sure Rauner needs a national figure given the theme of his campaign. Not sure anyone left who is undecided is waiting for a National figure to help them out. The president has already been here for the other guy and he seems to have slipped a little. Straighten me out Sling. What am I missing?

  30. - Wordslinger - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 2:37 pm:

A Guy, you’re missing nothing but credibility and independent thought.

    ==- Very Fed Up - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 11:47 am:==

He has not been governor for six years with super majorities, but why the hell should facts and reality matter in Raunerville?

    ===Wordslinger - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 2:37 pm:

A Guy, you’re missing nothing but credibility and independent thought.===

More charm. Everyone is free to question anyone’s credibility. So, in your eyes I have none. For the record, my feeling isn’t hurt (notice no plural)

As for independence, you’re kind of off the map with that one. There aren’t many members of the loyal opposition here. What few there are; Nilla, FKA, Black Ivy and a small cadre of others, endure regular snippiness from the others here. They take it in good stride. You have to or else go home.

If anyone is part of the choir, how would you not be among the directors? Myself and a few others bring some different perspective. I’m not sure whether that bothers you or insults you. With rare exception, I don’t see many of the small minority of the “others” around here who are disrespectful or rude. That franchise is elsewhere. It’s a forum Sling. Without other thoughts, it isn’t.

  33. - Wordslinger - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 3:40 pm:

A Guy, by independent thought, I mean taking the available evidence and following it to a logical conclusion.

Not starting with the conclusion you want and then spinning the evidence to make it work

  34. - A guy... - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 3:48 pm:

Sling, kind of you to double down on telling me what to think and upping the ante and telling me how to think.

I see things from a different angle than you. Yet I still frequently find your observations and perspective interesting and even occasionally mind changing. Sorry I can’t do that for you. I’m either too stupid or more willing. Either way, my feeling still isn’t hurt. I’ll just hope to be right by accident one of these days.

  35. - Gone, but not forgotten - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 4:40 pm:

-Wordslinger @ 1:57: I usually value your input, however, today I have two words for you and they are not thank you.

  36. - ??? - Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 4:50 pm:

A guy - for whatever it’s worth, I enjoy your posts and your willingness to go against the tide on this blog. I also appreciate your thoughtful, non-snippy, measured responses to others who sometimes don’t show you the same courtesy.
