Good morning!
Tuesday, Oct 28, 2014 - Posted by Rich Miller * A commenter gently complained yesterday that there wasn’t enough soul music in our morning posts. Upon reflection, I realized that it has, indeed, become a bit too “white” around here lately. So, this song isn’t soul (we’ll get to that genre soon), but it sure ain’t white. Here’s Chicago’s very own Chance the Rapper doing “14,400 Minutes.” Just trust me on this one. You really gotta listen… So at the school they arrested him

Ice Cube. Today was a good day. THAT is Hip Hop.

And after a little Earth, Wind and Fire, time to break out some George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic. Come Rich, we need some Atomic Dog around here.

Had heard of him, but never heard Chance the Rapper. I like.
- Alex P. Keaton - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 7:49 am:
Not that I don’t enjoy all the ‘crunchy’ jams you play but it was nice to see a young Chicago rapper get a play in the AM. Good pick Rich.

The reason Rauner is looking at a tight election even after spending millions and millions of his and his friends money is he lacks “rock and roll”. Photos of him riding a motorcycle or wearing carhartt jackets just can’t make up for that lack of the R and R.
“Gaining” the support of certain black ministers can’t make up for it. You either have it or you don’t and he don’t. Sure Quinn isn’t exactly Rod Stewart, but you can picture him listening to some of the Beatles early stuff.
Rauner probably has a staff of people who listen to music for him and then give him a summary of what it was like.

I love it! Great choice.
If I am on 16 hours a day in the last week, this would be playing big time.
- Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 8:26 am:
now if the 90% of the rest of rap were like this it would be interesting. it’s a genre replete with misogyny by many of the biggest artists.

When are we going to get something from New Orleans?
- LaFlare1017 - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 8:47 am:
Yes! Love to see the change of pace.
I also would not mind hearing Ice Cube’s, “Today was a good day” before E-DAY.
- Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 8:49 am:
Earth Wind and Fire has a Christmas CD coming out.

Chance the Rapper is a great story. He’s the son of Ken Bennett, a former Obama aide who now works for Rahm.

You need to play some Scottish Soul - Frankie Miller - Play Something Sweet, brickyard blues.

What Amalia said.
- The Captain - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 11:58 am:
It is completely surreal that Ken’s son has become this successful rapper.

We need more JBT on the accordian or would that be an endorsement?
- SIUPROF - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 2:29 pm:
In honor of the last concert by the Allman Brothers Band, why not Stormy Monday from Live at the Filmore East.
