* Yesterday, you will recall we talked about Diana Rauner’s e-mail to her supporters…

Subject: Bruce Rauner is pro-choice!
Hi friends, so sorry to flood your inbox, but you know how committed I am to reproductive rights; and I can’t stand to sit by while Personal PAC unleashes yet another round of attacks against Bruce. Here are the facts:
Bruce has been one of the largest supporters of the ACLU Reproductive Rights Project for over 20 years. He has been a major supporter of Planned Parenthood both locally and nationally for a similar time, such that Cecile Richards told her local staff in Illinois earlier this year, “if I hear anything negative about Bruce Rauner my head will explode.”
* Cecile Richards is the president of Planned Parenthood. So, I reached out to her yesterday and her spokesman sent me this in reply…
Planned Parenthood Action Fund Statement Supporting IL Gov. Pat Quinn’s Re-Election
WASHINGTON, DC — Planned Parenthood Action Fund and Planned Parenthood Illinois Action today said the groups are working hard to re-elect Governor Pat Quinn because he is a longtime, steadfast champion for women’s health and rights. Following is a statement issued today from Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund:
“Governor Pat Quinn is a longtime a champion for women’s health and rights. He has fought for access to birth control, sex education in our schools, Planned Parenthood’s ability to provide services across Illinois, and access to safe and legal abortion. That’s why Planned Parenthood Illinois Action endorsed him, and it’s why I’m proud to stand with Governor Quinn. Women in Illinois need Pat Quinn in the statehouse, and we are working hard to re-elect him.”
Notice, however, that there is no attack on Rauner in this statement.
- Oswego Willy - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 10:43 am:
“Dear Diana Rauner,
Thanks for ALL your help you have to your husband. Everything. Right up to the Dopey ignorant email, destroying the ‘no agenda’ schtick, and making your husband look like a lying fool…according to you, his wife.
Signed,
The Carhartt Coat, the $18 Watch, the Trashcan Van, the Wine Club, the hunted doves, the prop dogs, the chickens, and any prop that now looks even more phony.”
- Roadiepig - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 10:45 am:
Good for Richards to stand up and speak for herself . Diana Rauner decided to drag PP into her appeal email, so Richards was right to come out and remind voters who they feel would best protect women’s reproductive rights.
- Roadiepig - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 10:46 am:
As usual, Willy says it much better than I could ever
- Norseman - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 10:51 am:
Translation: Even if we were to believe you Diana, you’re husband’s professed views on running the state will more than likely gut womens programs in the state of Illinois for the sake of his rich buddies. While Quinn’s a dope and an incompetent, he has an understanding of the need to provide funding to important womens programs and fight against efforts to limit a woman’s right to choose.
- Wordslinger - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 10:58 am:
I don’t think the conversation in these last days before the election is what the cheez-whiz kids had planned.
Assuming they had a plan. They’ve been keeping it a big secret up to now.
- William j Kelly - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 11:00 am:
Has ciesil Richards head exploded yet? Please keep me posted.
- Amalia - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 11:27 am:
Has Diana Rauner’s head exploded yet because they could not buy the Planned Parenthood seal of approval?
- Anonymous - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 11:34 am:
“…you know how committed I am to reproductive rights; and I can’t stand to sit by…”
Shouldn’t Bruce Rauner be the one who is addressing this matter? And where’s the Lt. Governor candidate?
- walker - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 11:36 am:
Translation: Rauner might not be as bad for Planned Parenthood as most other Republicans, but Quinn is their staunch ally.
- Jill Stanek - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 11:45 am:
Most enlightening to me was Diana’s plea/threat in her email that if her husband loses, the end of pro-choice Republican candidates will be guaranteed. This certainly does not compel pro-lifers like me to vote for Rauner on Tuesday.
- Louis G Atsaves - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 11:49 am:
Translation: We will stick with the Democrats even though Rauner has been a strong supporter for over 20 years. Even though we could have made major inroads with the Illinois Republican party with someone like Rauner as the Governor of Illinois, we elect instead to be short sighted and will continue to put all of our eggs in one basket.
After all, we are one of the many “special interest” groups that are interested in keeping the all Democratic all the time power structure in Springfield intact, no matter how harmful it is to the State and its citizenry overall.
Thanks for all of your support in the past Mr. Rauner. Hopefully you will not be as short sighted as us in the future when considering future donations.

“Bruce has no social agenda” - Diana Rauner
“Bruce has been one of the largest supporters of the ACLU Reproductive Rights Project for over 20 years. He has been a major supporter of Planned Parenthood both locally and nationally for a similar time, such that Cecile Richards told her local staff in Illinois earlier this year, “if I hear anything negative about Bruce Rauner my head will explode.”…”
Hmm.
One of the Diana’s isn’t telling the truth.
The TV Diana, or the real Diana…
So - Louis G. Atsaves -, which is the truth?
- walker - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 11:54 am:
===the end of pro-choice Republican candidates will be guaranteed===
Don’t think this is certain, but her concern rings true.
This trend in the ILGOP has been going on for about ten years, and is indeed a shame. Many good office holders and candidates have been eased or forced out on this one issue. Too many one-issue voters.
- Wordslinger - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 11:58 am:
Geez, Louis, you’re all-victim, all the time these days.
I’m pretty sure you’re aware that some people are going to be against you in politics.
- 1776 - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 12:00 pm:
Can’t wait to see them come crawling on their knees when Rauner wins…
- Ducky LaMoore - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 12:04 pm:
@1776
Hahahahahaha. Hahahahahahahaha. Yeah, organizations that have been around forever don’t know how to live to fight another day. It ain’t over yet. In fact, it’s hasn’t even really started.
- Oswego Willy - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 12:06 pm:
===Can’t wait to see them come crawling on their knees when Rauner wins…===
Nah.
Bruce Rauner will bully everyone.
Bruce Rauner will threaten families, you know, Bruce wants to get to know everyone; their weaknesses, fears, vulnerabilities, “Tom Hagen” style.
There will be no crawling, Rauner wants kneeling, to him.
Ask around.
- Ducky LaMoore - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 12:06 pm:
Bruce: I am pro-choice. I have no social agenda.
Planned Parenthood: We’re pro-choice. Then why should we vote for you? Because you are with us in spirit?
- walker - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 12:09 pm:
1776: ===see them come crawling on their knees when Rauner wins===
You do know, that if Planned Parenthood had endorsed Rauner, that would be his death knell.
The best he could hope for from PP was no mention of him, and that what’s he got.
- Louis G Atsaves - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 12:33 pm:
===”I’m pretty sure you’re aware that some people are going to be against you in politics.”====
I never knew that. Where in my last comment did I even hint at being a victim?
- Oswego Willy - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 12:37 pm:
===Where in my last comment did I even hint at being a victim?===
…
===After all, we are one of the many “special interest” groups that are interested in keeping the all Democratic all the time power structure in Springfield intact, no matter how harmful it is to the State and its citizenry overall.===
It’s the Special Interests’ fault?
Are you a victim of Rauner’s special interests too?
- Louis G Atsaves - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 12:41 pm:
You are right Willy. Those special interest groups pouring tons of money and lobbying efforts into Springfield, have absolutely no fingerprints on the current state of Illinois Government.
My bad!
- Oswego Willy - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 12:51 pm:
So you are a victim?
- Louis G. Atsaves -, you are as confusing as “Diana Rauner” on TV, and Diana Rauner who writes emails.
Is the confusion on purpose?
- Yellow Dog Democrat - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 12:54 pm:
Bruce Rauner supports repeal of Obamacare, which expanded family planning to hundreds of thousands, and he supports the Hobby Lobby ruling.
Richards doesn’t have to slam Rauner on reproductive choice because Rauner is doing a fine job on his own.
Does Mrs. Rauner agree with her husband or with PersonalPAC and planned parenthood that employer-based insurance companies ought to cover birth control?
Heck, since she is the CEO of a major employer, someone could just ask her if the Ounce of Prevention Fund covers contraception for its employees. Would be hilarious if it didn’t.
- Responsa - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 12:58 pm:
Chill people. Most of Y’all look crazy-ish. In my entire adult life (and I remember Van Morrison when he was thin and had hair) have I ever considered or factored in the Planned Parenthood organization or their endorsement of a candidate one way or the other when I cast a ballot. I’m not saying that no one ever does, but I don’t believe most pro-choice voters (of which I a one) see Planned Parenthood itself as central to, or a defining issue related to, competent governance of a complex state.
- Wensicia - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 2:33 pm:
The Rauners should admire the above statement by Cecile Richards. It seems she can’t be bought, either.
- walker - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 4:24 pm:
Wensicia: well said
- crazybleedingheart - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 5:05 pm:
Personal PAC’s even better response to Diana:

- Jeepster - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 10:37 pm:
Rauner’s big problem is that he’s told so many whoppers on the campaign trail that both conservatives and liberals don’t trust him on this issue.
- Arsenal - Monday, Nov 3, 14 @ 8:23 am:
“We will stick with the Democrats even though Rauner has been a strong supporter for over 20 years.”
…and spent the last year choosing pro-life running mates.
Which, of course, is the point; Rauner can say he’s pro-choice all he wants, and he can even mean it, but he’s already demonstrated that he’s going to give pro-lifers big jobs in his administration. And I mean, he couldn’t help but do so; he’s going to staff his administration from the Republican Party. He doesn’t have a lot of pro-choicers to choose from. PP realizes that and acted rationally in response. Sorry it hurt Rauner, but you can’t expect them to ignore what’s best for their mission.
- Del Clinkton - Monday, Nov 3, 14 @ 9:08 am:
Would be even funnier to find out if Ounce of Prevention Fund supports Erectile Dysfunction products for its male employees. I believe the ultimate purpose of their product is to impregnate women.
- Black Ivy - Monday, Nov 3, 14 @ 1:50 pm:
Facts are facts, Democrats! The Rauners HAVE supported the ACLU Reproductive Rights Project and Planned Parenthood for years. You cannot erase history. If you wish to partner with Governor Quinn, so be it, but you cannot demonize the Rauners for being honest. #dealwithrealityplease
