  1. - Marty Funkhouser - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:05 pm:

So does that mean the caps are unbroken? And where does this dude get his money?

  2. - anon - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:09 pm:

Billy Kelly ends things before he even starts things

  3. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:11 pm:

    I note from a 3rd Grade teacher to a parent might be able to … explain … Mr. Kelly;

“(Mr. Kelly) is really full of energy, however, being part of this class (IL political scene), the energies, while limitless, aren’t helping him or anyone in the class.

(Mr. Kelly) might do better listening more, and talking and interrupting the class less. His need for attention and seeking the spotlight is stifling his growth and maturity.”

    Rauner sneezes $100K in donations…

    Just saying.

  4. - Anonymous - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:17 pm:

So his plan to challenging corruption was to bust out the caps before even filing petitions? And then not even file? Unreal.

Does anybody know if he even circulated petitions? Printed them? Anything?

  5. - A guy... - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:18 pm:

    You read it here first!
    You read it here..only.

  6. - Western Ave. Doug - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:19 pm:

He was too busy posting garbage about Rauner instead of collecting signatures. Also, the interview with Mike Flannery exposed the fact that Kelly had no grasp of any issue facing Chicago other than his hatred for Rahm.

BTW, Willy is too kind. More like pre-K teacher instead of 3rd grade.

  7. - Rahm's Parking Meter - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:21 pm:

Who now is going to humor us in the race?
Oswego Willy, you are right on the money!

  8. - Frank B. - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:25 pm:

Speaking of least surprising headlines, I loved the Sun-Times front page “investigative” piece from last Friday in which they breathlessly reported that a Democratic committeeman (Madigan) actually circulated nominating petitions for an incumbent Democratic mayor! What’s next, a four part expose on the sun setting in the West? Who says good old-fashion newspaper journalism is dead.

  9. - Anonymous - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:28 pm:

    One word CRAZY

  10. - Chicago Cynic - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:29 pm:

And now I really do believe he was simply there to break the fundraising caps for Rahm. Hmmm. If he’s out of the race, are the caps still broken? I think so.

  11. - OneMan - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:29 pm:

I would suspect that if you create a committee for a race officially and bust a cap, it is busted even if you do not end up on the ballot…

Otherwise how would you deal with a guy who gets tossed off the ballot? I would think once a cap is declared ‘busted’ it stays in that state regardless…

Then again I might be nuts…

  12. - chi - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:30 pm:

Just watched that Flannery interview… man, WJK is worse on the air than he is in comments.

    Some candidacies I’ll never understand.

  13. - Arizona Bob - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:39 pm:

Mr Kelly may not be the political maven he seeks to be, but he was part of a half way decent band once!

Anyone know exactly what he does for a living?

My oldest daughter (24) laments that she’s not a “trust fund baby”. She told me that she could adapt to that lifestyle very well. Had she been so fortunate, I wonder if she’d use her time and treasure the same way as Mr Kelly? NAAAAAAAAAH!

  14. - Knome Sane - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:42 pm:

What a terrible, text-book example of a narcissist with low self-esteem. He so desperately wanted the light to shine on himself that he came across looking like a sad creature. And who honestly believes that he has the means to follow through on his new venture?

  15. - Mokenavince - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:43 pm:

Since when is there a GOP in Cook County or Chicago much less corrupt.
The GOP died many many years ago in Cook county.

  16. - Knome Sane - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:44 pm:

@ Arizona Bob =I wonder if she’d use her time and treasure the same way as Mr Kelly?=

He ain’t no trust fund baby.

From Kelly’s own site: His father, William Francis Kelly, a Naval veteran of WWII, was the principal of Abbott Elementary School in Chicago,

  17. - ??? - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:46 pm:

I’m sure Rahm is breathing a sigh of relief. *snark*

  18. - too obvious - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:48 pm:

He should provide a copy of his pac’s bank statement showing deposit of the 100 grand. Then maybe someone would believe it exists. As most on here would know, the state board of elections requires no documentary support. It’s largely the honor system for contributions and expenditures.

  19. - admin - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:49 pm:

@Knome Sane so Kelly’s a genuine member of the forgotten middle class. That seems to fly in the face of his unhinged stalkers above.

  20. - a guy - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:59 pm:

Says at the link that rauners people threatened Kelly on election day. Isn’t rauner supposed to be change? With the threats against McKinney, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

  21. - admin - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:01 pm:

@lawyaz sounds like you are into conspiracy theories. Chill. Don’t be cray cray.

  22. - a guy - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:04 pm:

Kelly’s interview on fox cracked me up. Flannery lost that round. Sad to say.

  23. - Knome Sane - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:05 pm:

@ admin =sounds like you are into conspiracy theories=

    What’s conspiratorial about that comment?

A “forgotten middle class member” as you call him, would have a hard time scraping up $100k let alone parting with it.

  24. - Empty Suit - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:05 pm:

    ..zzzzzz..

  25. - Knome Sane - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:08 pm:

Careful there GalFriday. You’ll have “a guy”, “admin”, and “William j. Kelly” (one and the same if you ask me) frothing at the mouth.

  26. - MrJM - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:10 pm:

    Oh no!

    – MrJM

  27. - ChiGOP - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:10 pm:

Then he announced his run for mayor, asked for cash contributions and now backed out! Supposedly he donated $100,000 to his campaign?????

  28. - admin - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:13 pm:

You guys all sound like spoiled kids in a playground. Where are the parents?

  29. - Under Further Review - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:15 pm:

Just found the interview video clip with Mike Flannery. Cue the Warner Brothers’ theme from “Looney Tunes.”

Kelly’s best line (Choosing people at random from a telephone book to govern) is a direct steal from William F. Buckley.

  30. - A guy... - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:15 pm:

    === a guy - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 2:59 pm:

HEY DUDE, GET YOUR OWN HANDLE. THIS ONE’S TAKEN.
    Signed,
    A guy

  31. - Hardwood Floors - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:15 pm:

That this “news” is reported on Capitol Fax just made Kelly’s day. He’s in dire need of constant attention but the truth is he’s utterly irrelevant. Let’s now officially conclude that Kelly’s extended 15 minutes are up … and move on.

  32. - ChiGOP - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:16 pm:

…Then he announced his run for mayor, asked for cash contributions and now backed out! Supposedly he donated $100,000 to his campaign?????…

  33. - ChiGOP - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:18 pm:

I am chuckling to myself as I recount these few things…William J. Kelly is a real piece of work, it would be fun to laugh outright as he is becoming a parody of instability, he is becoming the GOP parties modern version of ray warningly…AKA Spanky the clown!

  34. - admin - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:21 pm:

Kelly must be smiling right now. Mission accomplished.

  35. - A guy... - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:29 pm:

Does anyone seriously think that Rahm need this guy to break the caps? That is laughable. The guy with all the money is broken up about this? Yeah sure.

  36. - Dirty Red - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:34 pm:

Bill Daley quit the race? What?

  37. - fair and balanced - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:39 pm:

Question for some of the legal minds on here:

what is the law regarding claiming to place $-one hundred thousand dollars into your campaign organizations account and not “really’ doing so?
is that a violation of the law or at least the campaign finance laws?
I mean this has just created a “real problem” for the other two candidates running for Chicago Mayor, that are actually legitimate in their run for Mayor.
Has William Kelly Violated any laws here?

  38. - admin - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:49 pm:

Rich, these comments are getting excessively rabid, the insults are beyond gratuitous, and stating that someone has violated the law without any proof of that activity is defamation per se. Despite your dislike of Kelly, I do believe you owe it to your site and your readers to monitor this thread and take down the defamatory comments.

  39. - admin - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:53 pm:

@Fair and Balanced and @Gal Friday - other than your cray cray behavior - where is the proof that Kelly didn’t put $100K in the account? Hasn’t Kelly run for statewide office previously? I’m sorry but this is starting to get bizarre and stalkerish. Someone didn’t take their meds today.

  40. - Bill White - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 3:55 pm:

    This thought came to me:

William J. Kelly is to ________ as Chuck Norris is to _________.

  41. - Nicholas - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 4:01 pm:

    Quitter.

  42. - Under Further Review - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 4:05 pm:

The State Board of Elections listed Kelly as a losing candidate in the 2010 primary. He lost to Topinka.

  43. - Under Further Review - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 4:09 pm:

His financial disclosures look like a report on someone playing a game of Solitaire.

  44. - Arthur Andersen - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 4:11 pm:

Time to get back under the bridge, William J. The 15 minutes are over.

  45. - Robert the Bruce - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 4:18 pm:

tangential to this - what’s to prevent any candidate/incumbent who wants the cap broken to have a friend run, donate $100k to his own campaign, not spend the $, then drop out of the race?

  46. - Rich Miller - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 4:18 pm:

=== these comments are getting excessively rabid===

    What goes around…

===stating that someone has violated the law without any proof===

Don’t think that’s been done here.

  47. - Arizona Bob - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 4:37 pm:

Just curious. Did he really “donate” the 100 grand, or just “loan” it to his campaign? Makes a big difference from a tax and accessiblity to get the cash back in his pocket perspective. The “loan” approach is pretty common for candidates. It’s an easy way to get their money back, especially if they win and are flush with influence peddling cash donations afterwards…..

BTW,for those who say he’s not a “trust fund baby”, not every trust fund is set up by your parents. Grandparent are perhaps more of source for this in many cases.

Sorority sister of my youngest daughter just found out that her recently deceased Canadian grandma had a trust for her and she picks up a cool million bucks (American) when she reaches 25. Another had grandparents from Seattle who were “MICROSOFT MILLIONAIRES” and left her seven figures in a trust. Let’s just say she’s not particulary worried about her starting salary when she graduates.

I keep on telling my son that “It’s just as easy to marry a rich girl as a poor one…” Ain’t it the truth!

  48. - Anonymous - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 4:45 pm:

Bye bye Billy. Bye bye Billy. Bye bye Billy, we hate to see you go.

  49. - Wordslinger - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 5:06 pm:

Does Rupert Pupkin get to open the Jerry Langford show now?

  50. - Under Further Review - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 5:14 pm:

“Defamation per se” rules may be subject to a constitutional public figure exception if they relate to politicians, celebrities or publicity seekers.

It is much harder to establish the “actual malice” standard that applies to those defamation cases involving public figures. Private citizens have an easier time as defamation plaintiffs.

  51. - A guy... - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 5:21 pm:

Who says this fella doesn’t unite people?

  52. - Levois - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 5:44 pm:

Since I just logged onto the internet one question….WHO????

  53. - Chicago outsider - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 5:50 pm:

admin- Rich is spot on, what goes around….
William Kelly forever on this site, his own site and whatever blog would allow him to, constantly with out any regard for the truth ripped numerous people. His attacks and accusations many times without merit were over board and baseless.
As for Rich not liking him i dont buy that one bit. If anything Rich and this blog has been more then fair to Kelly. Many times commenters have asked Kelly to keep with the issue but he refused. Rich never once cut him off that I am aware of.
William Kelly is simply getting the grilling he so much deserves.

  54. - William j Kelly - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 7:14 pm:

A few of your commentators have made some pretty wild and false statements about me and my campaign and are using your site with the attempt to spread rumor and defamatory statements.

    1. I obviously donated $100K to my campaign. To suggest that my campaign misrepresented that is defamatory.
    2. I have circulated petitions and have run for a few offices. My campaign has always filed with the State Board of Elections and there is a complete accounting on the board’s website. Some of your commentators are suggesting that cash donations were not reported. That is also defamatory. I also never filed or raised any money for the U.S. Senate. This statement is also false.
    3. In contrast, John Tillman, his associates, his PACs and 501c3 and c4 groups do actually deserve serious scrutiny. There is substantial evidence to back up that claim if you read Bernie Schoenburg’s pieces.

Your rules that state that excessively rabid comments, gratuitous insults, and “rumors” will be held in moderation. If this policy is no longer in effect, please let me know so that I can respond in kind.

  55. - William j Kelly - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 7:16 pm:

Icymi here is the Flannery interview http://www.williamjkellyforchicago.com/news/fox-interviews-william-j-kelly-for-mayor

  56. - Anonymous - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 7:37 pm:

I can’t believe that Fox and especially Mike Flannery would air that jibber jabber garbage of a interview. It was more like a Saturday night live comic show….

  57. - Ducky LaMoore - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 8:58 pm:

Will he be endorsing Dock Walls?

  58. - Under Further Review - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 10:51 pm:

    What campaign?

  59. - Anonymous - Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 10:56 pm:

He might run against Senator Kirk and throw in a half million to start it off. Hhhaaaaaa

  60. - Conservative Republican - Tuesday, Nov 25, 14 @ 9:18 am:

Folks here may laugh at him, but William J Kelly is quite frankly a malign presence in our local politics. When he actually does get on the ballot, he runs as a spoiler. His internet postings, his only regular means of projecting out to the greater world at large, are almost always slanderous rants against genuine conservatives and Republicans.

    In short,

William J. Kelly is the new Andy Martin.

  61. - low level - Wednesday, Nov 26, 14 @ 7:26 am:

“almost always slanderous rants against genuine conservatives and Republicans.”

Oh brother. Just turn on FOX - or read the IR - that’s all you get towards anything progressive!
