* Sheila Simon

As for Simon’s successor, Lt. Gov.-elect Evelyn Sanguinetti – who, like many in the circle of Gov.-elect Bruce Rauner, keeps a low public profile – she said, “Now’s the time to get to know (Sanguinetti). Let’s see what happens, and, as I always did during my term, wish that the governor has very good health and continues to stay fit and active.”

    Oh.

  2. - 47th Ward - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:07 am:

Wish? More like pray for Rauner’s good health.

I don’t think Simon was trying to be as mean as that quote might sound. Mine, on the other hand, is meant to be mean. A Governor Sanguinetti would be a disaster.

  3. - Soccermom - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:09 am:

    Classy.

  4. - 11th warder - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:10 am:

Simon will be first to announce she running again

  5. - Ron Burgundy - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:10 am:

I don’t think Simon was trying to sound mean and snarky either, but that kind of does. Shows how tone deaf she can be.

Not that I disagree with the sentiment.

  6. - Anonymous - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:14 am:

“Just shut up” is mean. But can also be good advise. In a mean way, of course

  7. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:15 am:

    Now if Simon added…

“I hope they add carpets and handrails on the Capitol, and the state’s liability insurance is paid up as well…”

That would have been even better.

Slip and Sue is having an inaugural cow tipping event, so tgat should be fun.

    Flip side?

If a Dope like me wants to say snark, it’s just snark.

The sitting LG takes a shot at the LG-Elect, when the Transition Team and current Administration are trying to do their best to help with the trabsfer of power….

…reminds me how glad I am that Sheila is leaving the stage.

The words she spoke; fun and snarky…but it matters a great deal who says them.

    Goodbye Sheila. Now just go.

  8. - Anonymoiis - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:18 am:

==and, as I always did during my term, wish that the governor has very good health and continues to stay fit and active.”==

Trust us, Sheila, we all were wishing the exact same thing the last four years.

  9. - Ghost - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:18 am:

So basically she is as uncooth and akward as she appeared to be in the news.

  10. - Responsa - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:22 am:

OK that made me laugh, Sheila.

(I don’t think it was either mean- or classy- as much as it was just totally clueless and not necessary for her to comment on or address at all.

  11. - Jaded - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:25 am:

I personally hope everyone stays healthy, fit and active. Apparently Sheila only wishes that for Illinois Governors or else why would she say something so stupid?

  12. - Knome Sane - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:29 am:

Like it or not, she has a valid point. The electorate voted for Bruce Rauner to lead them, not Evelyn Sanguinetti. “Wish that the governor has very good health and continues to stay fit and active” is hardly a slam.

Furthermore, it is a “self-effacing” thing to say anyway. She is saying “I am here to serve if called on (due to fate’s intervention), but it is YOU that was elected to lead this state as Governor, not me. So I wish you good health”.

  13. - Demoralized - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:29 am:

Didn’t we have a Lt. Governor resign one time because he said he was bored? Until Blagojevich I don’t think anybody thought too much about the Lt. Governor’s Office. I view it as kind of like the role of a First Lady (or First Man). They have their pet issues they get to deal with. Other than that there isn’t a lot there unless the Governor gives them anything of importance to do as far as the operation of state government goes.

  14. - Amalia - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:30 am:

who will people have to pick on without Sheila around anymore? move on.

  15. - VanillaMan - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:32 am:

“Now’s the time to get to know (Sanguinetti). Let’s see what happens, and, as I always did during my term, wish that the governor has very good health and continues to stay fit and active.”

“But that’s not what’s worrying me. It’s how to do it. These things must be done delicately… or you hurt the spell.”

  16. - Ghost - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:42 am:

Knome actually we did vote sanguetti in as gov to lead us if anytjing happens to rauner. Explicitly the electoratebvoted for the whole package, not just half of it

  17. - OneMan - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:46 am:

Now’s the time to get to know (Sanguinetti). Let’s see what happens, and, as I always did during my term, wish that the governor has very good health and continues to stay fit and active.”

In the best of all possible worlds, there is no need to get to ‘know’ the Lt. Governor at all.

  18. - john - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:53 am:

Sheila made me laugh out loud. Thank you.

  19. - Knome Sane - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:59 am:

@Ghost, you missed my point completely.

  20. - Ghost - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 11:04 am:

Are you sure? Perhaps you are just missing mine :) your underlying assumptionis that a vote is just for the gov and not the running mate. We actually used to vote for them seperately, until we had the offices split between parties and sitting gov’s afraid to leave the state.

I would say you assign an assumption to shiela and make yourself, that the running mate is not also seldcted by the electorate as the choice to govern

  21. - CircularFiringSquad - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 11:08 am:

Given Slip&Sue’s track record(so to speak) one might want to worry about her continued good health.

  22. - Knome Sane - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 11:24 am:

    @Ghost

I’ll try to clarify and make a follow-up point: A majority of voters elected Bruce Rauner with the expectation that he will remain fully capable of filling out/completing his full-term. They elected Evelyn Sanguinetti as LT. Governor in the event that he is incapacitated or unable for whatever reason to complete his term. It is “self-effacing” to say “I wish you health so I don’t have to fulfil your duties”.

And, Ghost, be honest: Is Evelyn Sanguinetti suited to be Governor on day one? What about day 1461? The answer is an unequivocal NO.

  23. - Anonymous - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 12:11 pm:

    - Knome Sane - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 11:24 am:

How do you know. She could be the greatest Governor EVER.

I don’t think so but we have had some very bad Governors in this State.

Or are you just anti conservative women.

People who don’t like her should explain why?

I don’t know anything about her except that she is conservative.

I voted for Quinn but I am a lot more middle of the road then him but Rauner scares me with his bully attitude.

  24. - Knome Sane - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 12:27 pm:

    =How do you know.=

    Puh-leeze. Everyone knows.

=Or are you just anti conservative women.=

No, I am not anti-anything. Well, except anti-unqualified (to be Governor, that is.)

    =I don’t know anything about her…=

And your challenging ME on my comments that she is unfit to be Governor? Do your homework, then we’ll chat. Just because she is a conservative, it doesn’t qualify her to run the 5th largest state in the Union.

  25. - Let'sMovetoTexas - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 12:38 pm:

If Sanguinetti were a man, most of these snarky comments would not be made.

  26. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 12:41 pm:

===If Sanguinetti were a man, most of these snarky comments would not be made.===

Slip and Sue is her own issue. Bruce “hired” her to be a “Co-Governor”…

    Use the “search” key.

  27. - Amalia - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 12:57 pm:

“If Sanguinetti were a man, most of these snarky comments would not be made.”

Nope. For example, if a Lt. Gov candidate, soon to be Lt. Gov. ,made remarks about criminalizing abortion, I would be all over it regardless of gender of the person.

  28. - Knome Sane - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 1:15 pm:

=If Sanguinetti were a man, most of these snarky comments would not be made.=

I would like to make one small edit to your post, to make it credible:

If Sanguinetti WAS QUALIFIED, most of these snarky comments would not be made.

Oh for pete’s sake. Grow up already.

  31. - MrJM (@MisterJayEm) - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 1:46 pm:

I sure hope someone makes sure Bruce gets his flu shots.

  32. - Ron Burgundy - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 1:48 pm:

Yeah, good thing no one here makes snarky comments about, well, every other public office holder and candidate in the entire state.

  33. - VanillaMan - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 2:11 pm:

If Sanguinetti were a man, most of these snarky comments would not be made.

Sanguinetti thought she could put on a matador costume, swing a cape, and then tip over a charging cow. Her mistake.

  34. - Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 4:07 pm:

Evelyn in a matador outfit would be ambrosial and the most significant improvement to Illinois State Government since Linda Kollmeyer started picking lottery numbers. Ole!

  35. - Rich Miller - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 4:58 pm:

===who will people have to pick on without Sheila around anymore? ===

    Je suis Charlie.

    lol

    Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 1:15 pm:

You did not answer my question

You are the one who is calling her not qualified without justifying your comments

    - Amalia - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 12:57 pm:

Nope. For example, if a Lt. Gov candidate, soon to be Lt. Gov. ,made remarks about criminalizing abortion, I would be all over it regardless of gender of the person.

She did not want to criminalize the women having abortions but to criminalize the act of killing a baby.

    Protecting babies is not bad.

  38. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 5:28 pm:

    (Sigh)

You really don’t want to go over Slip and Sue’s qualifications..,

    Honest.

    “Let It Go”

    Honest, you aren’t helping.

  39. - Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 6:33 pm:

What does Jeff Ladd think about all this?

  40. - Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 6:35 pm:

Evelyn was the only non-RINO on the ballot. Face it.

  41. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 6:38 pm:

    - Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass -

Slip and Sue, she emailed looking for a job in the Quinn Administration.

    “Non - R _ _ _ _”?

    You are a Dope.

Yes, I really want to know.

Why do you say she is not qualified?

  43. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 6:59 pm:

    - Anonymous -,

I’m really trying, use the “search” key…

    Please don’t make me explain.

    Search “Slip and Sue”

  44. - Anonymous - Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:33 pm:

If she WERE qualified, not WAS qualified. Correctly using the subjunctive tense is my new year’s resolution.

  45. - Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass - Friday, Jan 9, 15 @ 5:25 am:

So if you are not Democrat/Marxist/Lite you are a Dope. Plus, Willy. Please. Learn. Punctuation. And. Difficult to read sentence. Fragments. I do agree with you that Rauner is a phony big time. I personally like Durkin but he is probably ineffectual on purpose.

  46. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jan 9, 15 @ 8:23 am:

    - Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass -

    You must be new here.

If you can’t look up things, that’s on you.

    ===Democrat/Marxist/Lite===

You are not helping Slip and Sue, however, you’re ignorance is only rivaled by your Talking Points, lol
