Today’s video
Tuesday, Jan 13, 2015 - Posted by Rich Miller * When Mrs. Rauner presented the bible for her husband’s swearing in, the incoming governor started to put his right hand on the good book, then withdrew it. “Raise your right hand,” said the judge who swore in Bruce Rauner yesterday. Rauner started to haltingly move his right hand. “Put your hand on the bible,” the judge said. Rauner then put his right hand on the bible, and kept his left hand at his side. “Raise your right hand,” the judge politely said again. Rauner raised his left hand… He must’ve really been nervous. Or he’s dyslexic. Not that this was an Earth-shattering moment or anything, but I bet I received ten text messages when it happened yesterday.

To make matters more confusing, the justice raised her left hand while telling him to raise his right.

Well, at least - as the Good Book says - the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing…

Did you see his fingers crossed behind his back when he talked about rooting out corruption?
- 47th Ward - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 11:09 am:
As many noted yesterday, if Obama had done that…heads would explode with critical rage.
No big deal. Glad he was nervous. He should be. It’s a very sobering responsibility he’s assumed.

Good that he’s nervous. Smart.

Being hypercritical of a moment you’ll never experience…priceless. It was humanness at work. Nothing more, nothing less. The sun still rises in the east.

I just assume that’s what he means by “Shaking Up Springfield.”
Maybe all our problems originate with doing the swear-in ceremony like everyone else.

Poor staging is all. Illinois CEO Rauner should’ve been on the other side, it makes no sense for him to cross his arm over that way. Bad optics.

This is just horrible - really hard core important news. My god, what does this portend for the future?

Agree w/ 47th and Stoner, Faux News and the other loonies would be screaming craziness…sorta like those screaming about Quinn not attending…

I guess you take back all criticism of Pat Quinn? After all, you’ve never been a governor or experienced any of the moments that come with it.

PC, you need your bi-focals here. First, I was referring to the critics here on this page, not Pat Quinn. It was a special and nervous moment and the nit-pickers were having a feeding frenzy.
Secondly, you congenial dude, reread my comments on Pat Quinn. I know him and like him personally. I’ve been pretty forgiving of him, even chalking up his late behavior to just being a very hurt guy. I get it. I’m not a guy who really relishes on pouncing on guys when they’re down. I’d rather pounce on you for silly remarks.
- Wordslinger - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 1:00 pm:
Reading the comments here, I think “feeding frenzy” and “hypercritical” are hysterical in more than one sense of the word.
- Betsy - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 1:01 pm:
Better researchers than me might be able to pull up a photo of this, but I think that Jim Edgar did the same thing in 1995 and raised his left hand when he was sworn in for his second term as governor.
- wak - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 1:08 pm:
What I found really weird was how prior to his inauguration Rauner was compared both to a Roman Dicator and Abe Lincoln. As someone who lives in Springfield I thought it was ridiculous to compare Rauner and the state of IL to Lincoln and the State of the USA as he took the office of the president.
- Precinct Captain - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 1:11 pm:
Oh yes, A guy, there was a real feeding frenzy. Four comments over two posts on here yesterday and nine on this post before your first remark on this post. Wow!
- VanillaMan - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 1:30 pm:
Ah, Jeez.

Your displeasure has been duly noted. You do not like Rauner. Move on or say something original.
Back to the video: Reminds me of the comedy routine of Curly Howard in “Disorder in the Court.”

Lest we forget, Obama had a do-over swearing in.

Stuff happens at ceremonies. That’s why it is usually written down and practiced. Still pulls a smile though.

I thought it was original. Turn on your snark detector.

Yes, because Chief Justice Roberts messed it up. And in Obama’s case, he needed the do-over because there were so many people who wouldn’t (and won’t) accept the legitimacy of his presidency, nutjobs all.
