* When Mrs. Rauner presented the bible for her husband’s swearing in, the incoming governor started to put his right hand on the good book, then withdrew it.

“Raise your right hand,” said the judge who swore in Bruce Rauner yesterday. Rauner started to haltingly move his right hand. “Put your hand on the bible,” the judge said. Rauner then put his right hand on the bible, and kept his left hand at his side. “Raise your right hand,” the judge politely said again. Rauner raised his left hand

He must’ve really been nervous. Or he’s dyslexic.

Not that this was an Earth-shattering moment or anything, but I bet I received ten text messages when it happened yesterday.

To make matters more confusing, the justice raised her left hand while telling him to raise his right.

  2. - Commander Norton - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 11:07 am:

Well, at least - as the Good Book says - the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing…

  3. - LizPhairTax - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 11:08 am:

I’ve been successful at everything I’ve ever done.

OK, rub your belly and pat your head.

“They’re so cute when the Training Wheels come off, aren’t they?”

  5. - Norseman - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 11:09 am:

Did you see his fingers crossed behind his back when he talked about rooting out corruption?

  6. - 47th Ward - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 11:09 am:

As many noted yesterday, if Obama had done that…heads would explode with critical rage.

No big deal. Glad he was nervous. He should be. It’s a very sobering responsibility he’s assumed.

  7. - MrJM (@MisterJayEm) - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 11:10 am:

Reminds me of this steaming pile of goofy: http://legalblogwatch.typepad.com/legal_blog_watch/2009/01/faqs-on-obamas-botched-oath-of-office.html

Boy, they told me this job would be hard….

  9. - walker - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 11:16 am:

    Good that he’s nervous. Smart.

  10. - A guy - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 11:26 am:

Being hypercritical of a moment you’ll never experience…priceless. It was humanness at work. Nothing more, nothing less. The sun still rises in the east.

  11. - Nick Naylor - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 11:27 am:

    “No, your OTHER right hand”.

  12. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 11:28 am:

To paraphrase President Reagan: “His right hand didn’t know what his far right hand was doing,”

  13. - The Captain - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 11:33 am:

“When we’re ready we would like to ask you to remove your eyeglasses and shoes and place your head between the knees.”

    “Between your own knees, Father.”

  14. - PMcP - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 11:34 am:

I just assume that’s what he means by “Shaking Up Springfield.”

Maybe all our problems originate with doing the swear-in ceremony like everyone else.

  15. - Stones - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 11:37 am:

Had it have been Obama many of the birthers would have argued that he isn’t actually the President.

  16. - Mittuns - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 11:45 am:

Poor staging is all. Illinois CEO Rauner should’ve been on the other side, it makes no sense for him to cross his arm over that way. Bad optics.

  17. - A Citizen - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 11:49 am:

This is just horrible - really hard core important news. My god, what does this portend for the future?

  18. - D.P.Gumby - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 11:50 am:

Agree w/ 47th and Stoner, Faux News and the other loonies would be screaming craziness…sorta like those screaming about Quinn not attending…

    ==- A guy - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 11:26 am:==

I guess you take back all criticism of Pat Quinn? After all, you’ve never been a governor or experienced any of the moments that come with it.

  20. - a drop in - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 12:05 pm:

    Could have been worse:

    “Take off your hat
    Now raise your right hand
    Put your left hand here”

PC, you need your bi-focals here. First, I was referring to the critics here on this page, not Pat Quinn. It was a special and nervous moment and the nit-pickers were having a feeding frenzy.
Secondly, you congenial dude, reread my comments on Pat Quinn. I know him and like him personally. I’ve been pretty forgiving of him, even chalking up his late behavior to just being a very hurt guy. I get it. I’m not a guy who really relishes on pouncing on guys when they’re down. I’d rather pounce on you for silly remarks.

  22. - Wordslinger - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 1:00 pm:

Reading the comments here, I think “feeding frenzy” and “hypercritical” are hysterical in more than one sense of the word.

  23. - Betsy - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 1:01 pm:

Better researchers than me might be able to pull up a photo of this, but I think that Jim Edgar did the same thing in 1995 and raised his left hand when he was sworn in for his second term as governor.

  24. - wak - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 1:08 pm:

What I found really weird was how prior to his inauguration Rauner was compared both to a Roman Dicator and Abe Lincoln. As someone who lives in Springfield I thought it was ridiculous to compare Rauner and the state of IL to Lincoln and the State of the USA as he took the office of the president.

  25. - Precinct Captain - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 1:11 pm:

Oh yes, A guy, there was a real feeding frenzy. Four comments over two posts on here yesterday and nine on this post before your first remark on this post. Wow!

  26. - VanillaMan - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 1:30 pm:

    Ah, Jeez.

  27. - Under Further Review - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 1:33 pm:

    @Norseman:

Your displeasure has been duly noted. You do not like Rauner. Move on or say something original.

Back to the video: Reminds me of the comedy routine of Curly Howard in “Disorder in the Court.”

“As many noted yesterday, if Obama had done that…heads would explode with critical rage.” and Had it have been Obama many of the birthers would have argued that he isn’t actually the President”……
Lest we forget, Obama had a do-over swearing in.

  29. - zatoichi - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 2:03 pm:

Stuff happens at ceremonies. That’s why it is usually written down and practiced. Still pulls a smile though.

  30. - Norseman - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 2:26 pm:

=== Move on or say something original. ===

I thought it was original. Turn on your snark detector.

  31. - 47th Ward - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 2:27 pm:

    ===Lest we forget, Obama had a do-over swearing in.===

Yes, because Chief Justice Roberts messed it up. And in Obama’s case, he needed the do-over because there were so many people who wouldn’t (and won’t) accept the legitimacy of his presidency, nutjobs all.

  33. - Tin Foil - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 2:48 pm:

Is he really Governor then. This is a great reason to to pay taxes and follow laws signed by Rauner.

  34. - Tin Foil - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 2:49 pm:

I hate that you can’t edit your damn typos…

Is he really Governor then? This is a great reason not to pay taxes and obey laws signed by Rauner.

  35. - Tin Foil - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 2:51 pm:

According to Nostradamus, this is one of the seven signs of the apocalypse.

  36. - Gone, but not forgotten - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 3:55 pm:

Why is the Obama name coming up on this blog? I think the integrity of this blog should be kept to State of Illinois subjects, and not start a p***ing match with regard to Federal nonsense.

  37. - Strobby - Tuesday, Jan 13, 15 @ 7:37 pm:

I saw that on the 3 Stooges
