A special birthday
Friday, Jan 16, 2015 - Posted by Rich Miller * This was supposed to be Judy Baar Topinka’s final hurrah, and now she’s gone. Earlier this week, her staff had to take down her photo at the Statehouse. It was a wrenching experience and they’re having a difficult time adjusting to the new reality. So, keep them in your thoughts, please…

Many times my thoughts were to the numerous Staffers and friends of Judy Baar Topinka from Monday to this morning.
Class act by the HGOP.
My heart goes out to them all.

I got my 1099-R yesterday and was pleased that the envelope had JBT’s name on it. Both for the frugality and memory of her.
P.S. Maybe as part of his efforts to limit non-essential spending, Governor Rauner should use up Governor Quinn’s stationary.
- Aldyth - Friday, Jan 16, 15 @ 10:39 am:
The Illinois Republican Party could benefit from adopting JBT as their patron saint. I’m sure she’d be willing to offer inspiration and guidance from above.

After the same sex marriage bill was passed she volunteered to be the flower girl. I shutter as I try picture what she would have looked like with a frilly dress with bows in her hair spreading flower petals down the aisle of the church. The lady was one of a kind.

The reminder here and on FB was a sweet one of a remarkable person. Missing her is hard…thinking about her is easy; and often. Happy Birthday Judy!

I re-watched parts of the memorial service last night. Nancy’s stories about George Ryan in ‘98 and the gay pride parade mailer still crack me up.
Rich, I have seen and heard a lot of her staff quote from your remarks, too. I am sure they appreciate your support.

To Judy in Heaven and her staff on earth - Happy Birthday - I appreciate you all

Every day, I still have that moment when I remember she’s gone. God bless you, JBT

Too bad she was to far to the left for many of those in the Illinois GOP. A visionary far beyond her years. A politician who was able to work both sides of the aisle for what she thought was the right thing to do.

What are we going to name after here?
Something, hopefully.
- Leroy - Friday, Jan 16, 15 @ 11:46 am:
…that should read
“What are we going to name after HER?”
