AFP going “aggressive” this spring

* Riopell…
Americans for Prosperity, a national conservative organization with an Illinois arm, plans an “aggressive” advertising and mail push this spring to try to influence suburban Democrats, in particular.
Illinois Director David From says the campaign will likely focus on budget and tax issues largely in support of Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner’s proposals. The ads likely will urge voters to contact their representatives to push those views.
“We want to really be kind of aggressive,” From said. […]
The effort will be statewide, but From said he thinks about 75 percent of resources will focus on the Chicago area. That’s because the suburbs are home to the state’s largest number of swing legislative districts, where Republicans need to make inroads in 2016 if they want to cut Democrats’ majorities in Springfield.
We’ll see how aggressive they get, but keep in mind that Gov. Rauner won a lot of suburban and Downstate Democratic districts last year.

Two words, Pat Quinn. ’nuff said?

I look forward to the governor denouncing the corrupt influence of this outside special interest.
- How Ironic - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 1:54 pm:
What’s their tagline going to be?
“Please call your state rep and DEMAND that Bruce Rauner slash your neighbors pension and pay!”
“Go visit your local food bank, then call your state rep and DEMAND they stop supporting people in need!”
“Call your state rep and DEMAND they support Billionaire Bruce Rauner in his fight against Illinois’ union thousandaires”
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 1:54 pm:
“Call your Representatives. Tell them orphans need to be on the street. Now”
- nona - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 1:55 pm:
Ironically, Dems from swing districts — i.e. “targets,” — vote conservatively on financial issues. None votes for tax hikes, for example, or even for authorizing counties to raise fees.
- Cheryl44 - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 1:57 pm:
Insist they close the public libraries while they are at it.
- Wordslinger - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 2:00 pm:
Let me guess — their starting bankroll will be $20 million. That seems to be the magic number these days.
- Percival - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 2:03 pm:
Hey AFP: with 6,968 units of government in this state, the largest of any state by 2,000 plus, I think I know a place where we can both cut government spending AND help the people. Get on it!
- How Ironic - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 2:16 pm:
“Pick up the phone, and breath slowly in and out while waiting for your State Rep. Insist they support Bruce Rauner on his bid to remove kids from vents!”
- Jack Stephens - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 2:22 pm:
Agreed Reality Check!
Since unions are being denied their First Amendment Rights (money = speech) time for across the board the cuts in Welfare for the Wealthy!
Amend the Constitition of the United States of America: overturn Citizens United! I want my country and state back!!!!
- Norseman - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 2:33 pm:
Well this is certainly going to be the golden advertising age for Illinois broadcasters.
- Mama - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 2:42 pm:
Will the Tea Party (1%`ers) ever stop harassing people with non-stop campaigns? I’m sick of them already!
- Anon - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 2:44 pm:
We’ll see who gets behind Rauner now that all the elected Republican in the Chicago suburbs, who lost 50% of their share of income taxes, figure out how Rauner is going to balance the budget on their backs.
- TGS - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 2:45 pm:
Jack - unions are bring “denied” the right to compell speech through forced fair share fees. Free speech is a viluntary exercise, not a compelled one.
- Rich Miller - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 2:47 pm:
===forced fair share fees===
Nothing is being forced because people can quit their jobs. A state job is not a constitutional right.
- Anonymous - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 2:52 pm:
“We want to really be kind of aggressive,” eh?
Is that in, you know, sort of a weasely way?
- anonlurker - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 2:53 pm:
2:52 is me
- Responsa - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 2:59 pm:

Interesting comment, Mama. I don’t know what area of the state you’re from but in my neck o’ the woods the tea partiers and 1%ers are definitely not one in the same.

==the right to compell speech through forced fair share fees.==
Sigh.
The whole point of fair share is that it cannot be used for political activities.
Besides, nobody is compelled to do anything. Workers aren’t slaves. They can quit if they don’t like it.

Does the AFP know that some of the biggest resisters to Rauner’s plans are suburban Republicans?
No they wouldn’t. They’re not from here.
- Late to the party - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 7:07 pm:
OW, your “stuff” is weaker than usual.
- Late to the party - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 7:12 pm:
But then, who can be on top of their game all the time?
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 7:35 pm:
- Late to the party -,
I’m a lil distracted these past few days, focusing on a few things.
I’ll try to do better.
- low level - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 8:03 pm:
Be my guest. Won’t work. Ir rarely works on the congressional level and less so on the legislative level.
- Truthteller - Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 8:08 pm:
They’ll have a great message. Rauner cut your income taxes, so you could pay more for your METRA tickets. So what if your kid can’t go to daycare while you’re at work?
- See the Forest - Friday, Mar 20, 15 @ 5:58 am:
AFP is a Koch-funded, right-wing organization. Time to stock up on “Kochroach Motels.” Expose these vermin for what they are - tools for the 1 percenters.
BTW, a response is in order to TGS, who said, “unions are bring ‘denied’ the right to compell speech through forced fair share fees. Free speech is a viluntary exercise, not a compelled one.”
Your canard is incorrect. Fair share fees ensure that there are no freeloaders. Why should other union members pay to provide services to a freeloader who wants all the benefits, but not help shoulder the cost of those benefits?
