Don Moss “in the waning moments of his life”
Tuesday, Apr 28, 2015 - Posted by Rich Miller
* From Vickie Kean…
It’s with a heavy heart that I inform you that Don is in the final stages in his battle with a virus that has overwhelmed his body. He is now receiving palliative care in the hospital with the love and support of Naydene and his daughters. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family and I’m sure yours would be most welcome.
Despite these most difficult times Don has expressed his concern that the battles we have long fought not be set aside. I will continue to do my best to carry on Don’s legacy in advocating for people with disabilities and representing those agencies who serve them.
While Don is in the waning moments of his life, he will long remain with us in our hearts.
The man is a tenacious legend in these parts. His loss will be incalculable.
Don isn’t accepting visitors, but Vickie says if folks want to send cards or notes they can mail them to his office: 310 East Adams, Springfield, IL 62701.

Don is a first class person in every way possible. Many have learned a lot from his skilled ability to explain complex topics in plain language
We pray Don and his family are given the strength to make through this tough times.

A legend 30+ years ago when I started and even more so today. Taught me a lot about Illinois and its politics, both good and bad!

I have much appreciated the opportunity to work with Don on issues related to community living for people with developmental disabilities. A mainstay. I just saw him this February at the human services budget briefing. Tough and committed. Thinking of Don and his family and colleagues.

Many years ago, I was new to lobbying, and a woman to boot, several kind gentlemen give me guidance and accepted me as an equal. They were Don Moss, Dick Lockhart and Bud Kelley. I don’t think I ever thanked them for their support. Don, thank you for helping me and helping an untold number of individuals with developmental disabilities over many years.
They don’t make them like they used to. Godspeed.

My memories of my Uncle Don are from many years ago. It was clear that he loves his daughters more than anything in the world. During the summer I lived with hi in the 1970’s, he was always, fun, warm, and energetic!
- SamHall - Tuesday, Apr 28, 15 @ 8:29 pm:
Don is a tough fighter and I pray that he wins this one.
- steve schnorf - Tuesday, Apr 28, 15 @ 10:01 pm:
I met Don 45 years ago, and have worked with him ever since, as recently as a month ago. Every cause should be so fortunate to have an advocate of Don’s caliber.
