Today the City of Decatur lost its greatest cheerleader. The passing of Mayor Mike McElroy today is a great loss. He and council were doing the projects that were turning the city around.

From reading Rich’s columns for many, many years plus CapFax for quite a few years, my guess would be liberal on social programs, conservative on fiscal issues, and libertarian on most laws / legal issues … and yes, I realize those positions will also be in conflict with each other at times.
I support Rand Paul. I voted for and supported his dad, too.
Willy - the Illinois Observer had a good write-up linked via its Facebook page. Check it out if you have a few minutes. It’s a good read and, from a party building perspective, it’s infuriating. I know that Rep. Sandack doesn’t get a lot of love around here, but he’s proven himself to be an effective campaigner and is an active and responsive elected official. This is just going to be a drain on Leader Durkin’s resources - unless, of course, Governor Rauner steps in (which I’m guessing he will).
Rauner will back Sandack, as he should, and any and all runs at Sandack will be, to be polite, uphill. Sandack shouldn’t get primaried, but if he is, Sandack probably won’t face the same dynamic this time, unlike last time.
