The Pat Quinn rehab tour continues

Monday, Jan 4, 2016 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Press release…

The Equality Illinois Political Action Committee (EQIL PAC) will host a reception with former Illinois Governor Pat Quinn on January 14 to support the EQIL PAC’s mission of electing pro-LGBT equality candidates to state and local offices.

“Gov. Quinn is a great friend of the LGBT community and, among many other achievements, was instrumental in passing and implementing marriage equality,” said Nicole Bashor, Chair of the EQIL PAC.

“He also recognizes that advancing equal rights and ensuring lived equality in Illinois requires identifying, supporting, and electing pro-equality people to public office,” Bashor said.

The reception with Gov. Quinn will take place at Hubbard Inn, 100 W. Hubbard Street, Chicago, on the evening of Thursday, January 14. Details and tickets are available at www.EQILPAC.eventbrite.com.

Gov. Quinn is a steadfast advocate for the equal rights of LGBT Illinoisans. He not only advocated for and signed the marriage equality law in 2013, but he also approved strong anti-bullying protections and the civil unions law and led an administration that was welcoming and affirming for LGBT Illinoisans.

Through candidate questionnaires, endorsements, campaign contributions, and field support, the EQIL PAC works to secure and defend the equal rights of LGBT people in Illinois. The EQIL PAC is the only political action committee in Illinois that is dedicated to electing individuals to public office who will fight for the equal rights of LGBT Illinoisans.

The EQIL PAC is engaging in the 2016 primary and general elections in Illinois. This effort involves evaluating candidates based on their support of policies and proposals that advance LGBT equality. More information about the EQIL PAC is available at www.EQILPAC.org.

It’ll be interesting to see which candidates actually show up for this shindig.

    For Emily Miller,

    To quote Kelly Clarkson,

“You had your chance, you blew it
Out of sight, out of mind
(Close) your mouth, I just can’t take it
Again, and again, and again, and again”

Rehab all you want Pat ole man, I still wouldn’t vote for you now after a year with Rauner. As an administrator in the role of Governor, you were lacking. That won’t change if you ran and won again.

    Please. Stop.

Will anybody be playing his answer to the SSM question in the early 2010 debates? Probably not, but now that is a flip that is paying him interest.

  3. - Honeybear - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 4:36 pm:

Man’s got some stones, I have to admit. But seriously shove off mate.

  4. - Precinct Captain - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 4:37 pm:

Hopefully the Dems don’t end up with the Ohio route, which is to say that outside of Ted Strickland the Dems there have repeatedly sacrificed the guv’s mansion by running candidates simply because you need someone at the top of the ticket! Not good!

  5. - wordslinger - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 4:50 pm:

Of course Quinn will run again. He’s run for a statewide office in every election since 1986. That’s what he does.

The dude isn’t afraid to lose and now-and-then he wins.

  6. - Qui Tam - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 4:53 pm:

LGBT may be the only issue Quinn can run on. He certainly can’t count on his track record of competency, ethics, or worker safety & health. Illinois took the OSHA Region V lead in worker fatality rates during his administration.

    - Go away Quinn, you’ve done enough damage.

  7. - Chicago Cynic - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 4:57 pm:

NO NO 1000 TIMES NO. GO AWAY. Pretty please.

  8. - Grass Bowl - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 4:58 pm:

My understanding is that this event is to help raise money for pro-LGBT candidates. The LGBT community still has a lot of love for Pat Quinn. Nothing more, nothing less. If our two previous governors weren’t in jail, they might also be lending their names to causes that they sincerely believe in. Everyone needs to take it easy.

  9. - Federalist - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 5:11 pm:

If that is the big issue he hopes to establish his ‘return’ upon he is really desperate.

  10. - sal-says - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 5:17 pm:

At this point, about 1/4th the way through this nightmare, how about an easy poll? One here; one by a pollster.

    Raunner or Quinn?

  11. - California dreaming - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 5:29 pm:

Jerry Brown script? I think that Browns sister worked for Quinn. Maybe he can show him the come back play book?

  12. - Macbeth - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 5:38 pm:

    Bravo for Quinn.

    Everybody here needs to chill.

  13. - WizzardOfOzzie - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 5:48 pm:

Brown’s sister was the Midwest Chair of Goldman Sachs. About as far from Pat Quinn as a person could be.

And Rich did an outstanding analysis of Jerry Brown’s approach to governing vs. Pat Quinn’s. One state has budget surpluses. One doesn’t.

  14. - RNUG - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 5:53 pm:

I wrote plenty critical of Quinn in his role as Gov but at this point he appears to be a model of competence when compared to Rauner. He isn’t my first choice for Gov in 2018 but we’ve elected worse in the last decade or so.

  15. - steve schnorf - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 6:31 pm:

Grass (what I fear you must be smoking), please name our previous 2 governors who are in jail. You need to let it go for a while, get some rest and nutrition, maybe get back to us when your brain is working again

  16. - DuPage Great Grandma - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 6:36 pm:

I can’t say I would support him without knowing the options, but he looks like a genius compared to what we have now. In a Rauner/Quinn race, I work my heart out for Quinn.

  17. - dgd - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 6:39 pm:

So Quinn volunteers to lend his name to a cause he believes in and people want him to “shove off” and “go away.” Do we really expect him to lock himself away in his house for the rest of his life?

  18. - walker - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 6:49 pm:

Be nice to see him again. Nothing wrong with PQ’s heart.

  19. - illini - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 6:55 pm:

I can still remember when Gov. Quinn came to my small community, without any notice or fanfare, to honor a fallen Marine. He stood in a very line, as we all did, to pay his respects and expected no preference because of his position.

I first met him 30 years ago, and in spite of some of his obvious and unfortunate political failings, I still respect him and will always consider him to be a friend.

  20. - Arthur Andersen - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 7:51 pm:

PQ would make an excellent AG.

  21. - Southern Illinois Hoopdee - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 8:00 pm:

There’s been far worse politicians in this state than Pat Quinn. I’d certainly take him over the current occupant. Problem is, he didn’t seem to know how to take care of downstate enough to get enough of them to win an election.

  22. - Michelle Flaherty - Monday, Jan 4, 16 @ 9:34 pm:

Super 8s across Illinois rejoice at news of Quinn’s comeback.
