Tiresome in the extreme, but always shameless.

  2. - 360 Degree TurnAround - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 1:59 pm:

Didn’t Madigan vote to fund Eastern Illinois University?

  3. - Joe M - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:01 pm:

Didn’t Rauner veto the higher ed budget that the GA passed?

  4. - LizPhairTax - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:04 pm:

Oh no! This is serious, Governor. What are his demands? Has he done this before? I’ll have to Google, but does this happen all the time? What changed in 2015 that made it thus? So many questions. This is urgent. We must do something. We must find the chief executive of the state and inform him of this.

  5. - siriusly - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:04 pm:

    huh?

he is the one who vetoed the bill, and the budget

  6. - Spliff - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:09 pm:

Quick someone ask Shimkus how to spell Education!

  7. - Keyrock - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:10 pm:

    Look! His pants are aflame!

  8. - @MisterJayEm - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:10 pm:

If the governor is as impotent as he would have us believe, he should resign. If the governor isn’t impotent, he should act.

    – MrJM

  9. - AC - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:13 pm:

If only our poor governor could do something for Eastern, maybe hold a bake sale, I’m not sure what he could do? /s

  10. - wordslinger - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:14 pm:

–If the governor is as impotent as he would have us believe, he should resign. If the governor isn’t impotent, he should act.–

But pretending that he is not doing what he absolutely wants to be doing and is doing is working for him among some of the people all of the time.

  11. - illinoised - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:15 pm:

A comment aimed at low information voters.

  12. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:16 pm:

    HBO - “Dad’s Home State” - Season 2, Episode 20

Bruce tells college students to hang in there while wearing a “Dartmouth Dad” sweatshirt. Diana prepares for her own Spring Break, Diana’s new State Employee suggest another foreign trip. Lance tweets pictures of Ken Dunkin to Rep. Lang, “ck” gets the lists of mayors and village presidents too late for a Goldberg letter. Comedy, 63 minutes.

  13. - 47th Ward - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:18 pm:

===I’m not sure what he could do===

He’s powerless, like the rest of us. If only Illinois had an elected position with executive power, to counter-balance the iron grip of Mike Madigan’s legislative branch, then maybe Rauner wouldn’t be as weak, pathetic and powerless as he is pretending to be with stunts like this.

  14. - out of touch - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:19 pm:

Shimkus doesn’t need Rauner’s endorsement. He’s taking one for the team by “allowing” Rauner’s endorsement. Rauner’s favorables are in the tank down there, and he needs an ally.

  15. - Anon217 - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:20 pm:

@FundEIU - Stadium Grill, Rauner & Shimkus told students they’ll be removed if they are protesters. Way to hear your constituents’ concerns #FundEIU

  16. - The Muse - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:21 pm:

Talk about beating a dead horse.

How many people in the general Illinois population know who Speaker of the Illinois General Assembly is as opposed to the Governor?? As the saying goes, “the buck stops here.”

  17. - out of touch - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:22 pm:

Shimkus on Rauner’s agenda: “I also believed in term limits, until I didn’t. You know, a funny thing happened when I exhausted my self-prescribed term limit: I realized that I was still the best man for the job. Sorry for the fib, voters”.

  18. - AJ_yooper - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:22 pm:

    LizPhairTax, you got it!

  19. - Beaner - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:23 pm:

Yes, El Dulce, “that Madigan.” But where is your balanced Budget Plan?
“If you do not have a plan, you are planning to fail.” Source: Cub Scout Manual.

  20. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:25 pm:

    What a blatent fabrication.

    Charleston, EIU,

Reggie Phillips, when you needed him most, where was he? Not with Charleston, not with EIU, and when he “supports” EIU or Charleston without getting enough votes one last time… it’s too late, he let you down yet again.

    “Vote Accordingly”

  21. - Honeybear - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:28 pm:

    Perfidy

  22. - Beaner - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:28 pm:

The Rauner Apology and Blame Tour, Spring 2016. With special Guest and Turnaround Supporter, Term-limits Shimkus.
“Term limits are important, beginning in 2028.” Fake Governor Rauner

  23. - Ben Cook - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:30 pm:

And since he’s parading around with Shimkus today, where has our congressman been on the budget issue? He’s supposed to be a leader, right?

  24. - Saluki - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:30 pm:

    Bruce Rauner is a failure.

  25. - Chucktownian - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:32 pm:

I’ve heard it was just a one way event in which people listened to speeches. Apparently the vetoes that caused this whole train wreck just dropped out of the sky like a tornado. No one knows where they came from.

  26. - Good old days - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:32 pm:

Rauner is killing EIU because of Jim Edgar, he and his team, cant swallow that a Governor from the 90″s has an approval rating in the 70’s and their guy cant even get over 50 percent approvals..

  27. - btowntruth - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:33 pm:

    Oswego Willy:
Are you sure “Dad’s Home State” is still a comedy at this point?

  28. - Chucktownian - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:34 pm:

    Well Rauner is above 50%…disapproval.

  29. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:36 pm:

    - btowntruth -

It’s evolving into a Mockumentary, but to the Rauners and their Crew, they’ll keep filming as long as we label it a comedy. The production meetings leave us all scratching our heads.

  30. - DuPage Bard - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:39 pm:

No matter how good you are, how smart you are, how rich you are- it can’t always, no matter what, be someone else’s fault.
I understand that a 4 year old has trouble grasping that concept but my gosh.

  31. - Austin Blvd - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:47 pm:

…And Kyle McCarter is a Chicago kind of guy. Lol

  32. - A Modest Proposal - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:47 pm:

those people know that its Rauner - not Raynor?

  33. - The Dude Abides - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:57 pm:

50% of the voters disapprove of the Governor. The blame Madigan game isn’t working very well so I’m going to keep doing it..lol

  34. - That Guy - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 3:00 pm:

    -A Modest Proposal

Raynor is an Illinois company that manufacturers garage doors. Not everything is a conspiracy.

  35. - Mattoon - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 3:00 pm:

Rauner tried to run out the back of a small local grill to avoid students and faculty. Brave leadership to say the least.

  36. - nadia - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 3:01 pm:

And next we have Kyle Mac the magnificent dancing Chicago machine on our program. He will dance while Reggie sings “Beautiful Loser”.

  37. - Chucktownian - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 3:05 pm:

Yeah I heard he chickened out and avoided the EIU crowd — sort of like he avoids meeting with anyone who doesn’t tell him what he wants to hear.

    Worst. Governor. Ever.

And I say that in a state that has had more than its fair share of bad governors.

  38. - Ben Cook - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 3:05 pm:

McCarter apparently just asked Rauner whether he thought he was a “Chicago politician” as the Shimkus attack ads claim.

According to McCarter’s Twitter the response was a “chuckle” and “No I don’t.”

  39. - Very Old Soil - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 3:06 pm:

My stock comment for all future posts like this: “My desire to be well informed is currently at odds with my desire to remain sane.”

  40. - The Dude Abides - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 3:08 pm:

It’s Madigan’s fault because I’ve been successful at everything that I’ve ever done.

    https://www.facebook.com/emma.pikula.3/videos/1566606043653009/

  42. - Juvenal - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 3:13 pm:

Did he actually call it “EIU”?

I didn’t know anyone in the whole state called it anything but “Eastern.”

Shows how little time he has actually spent discussing their financial problems with anyone.

PS: ck, for future reference for upcoming school closings:

    “Carbondale”
    “SIU-E”
    “Western”
    “Northern”
    “ISU”
    “Chicago State”
    “Northeastern”

  43. - Chucktownian - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 3:17 pm:

How is Rauner anything but a “Chicago politician?”

Now he’s even lying about where he’s from.

This is comically bad, like the quality of Rauner’s job as governor.

  44. - MSIX - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 3:18 pm:

He simply does not care about students or the universities or the poor or the disabled. He only cares about busting unions and ensuring more money flows to the 1%. That is why I cannot understand the support he gets from some middle to lower income GOP voters in this area. He’s going to hurt them as well and they love him for it.

  45. - Wensicia - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 3:22 pm:

Next up: “Madigan is forcing me to veto higher education funding in this state!”

  46. - Skeptical - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 3:25 pm:

Shameless - WIU and EIU were part of the plan from day one.

  47. - Anonymous - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 3:45 pm:

Odd that Madigan has been in power for years but it wasn’t until Bruce Rauner became governor that suddenly EIU became a hostage. I’m guessing that points the finger directly at Rauner, no matter how much he’s trying to dodge responsibility.

  50. - Joe M - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 4:07 pm:

All part of the Governor’s chaos strategy. But what is his end game? More chaos?

  51. - Mama - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 4:16 pm:

We should forward the ‘Cub Scout Manual’ to the four leaders and the governor - - maybe they will learn something from it.

  52. - sal-says - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 4:20 pm:

== “Madigan is holding EIU hostage.” ==

    Dearest Steph:

I hope and pray that you actually know better. My boss is out there.

EIU and other IL State Univs have been doing OK ……. UNTIL raunner. Point the finger where it belongs…..Because raunner.

    Thank you.
    Sincerely,

    == - illinoised - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 2:15 pm: A comment aimed at low information voters. ==

And why is that? IL media won’t cover it and won’t tell the truth.

    Swell. Calling cthomas.

  54. - wordslinger - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 4:42 pm:

–But what is his end game?–

Fewer university programs and universities serving fewer students and fewer social services programs and providers helping fewer people in need and funded at a much lower baseline than before the governor took office.

Again, the “necessary shakeout,” as Sen. Radogno spoke of to the SJR.

The “hostage” situations are a ruse to disguise premeditated hits on these state functions.

The governor’s public posture — that it’s somehow reasonable to abandon higher education and renege on state contracts for social services unless collective bargaining is done away would seem preposterous.

But he’s getting away with it.

  55. - Politix - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 4:43 pm:

    It’s almost comical. Almost.

  56. - foster brooks - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 5:55 pm:

Glad to see that union made garage door by raynor

It just got up for 3 more seasons. My hope is that the writing gets better. The SuperStars aren’t helping….

  59. - Ryan - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 6:52 pm:

Gov. Droppi G knows what he’s doing. This is all part of his plan: the systematic destruction of public higher education. He doesn’t like it, so he’s starving it to death. He thinks private education works better and only wants those who can afford it to be educated. Him, and his kind, do not want everyone to be educated enough to actually critically exam who/what they’re voting for. The dumber the population, the easier they are to control. He know’s exactly what he’s doing.

  60. - RNUG - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 7:59 pm:

    -OW-

Year 4 - Season of the Zombies?

  61. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 8:14 pm:

    - RNUG -

The treatment has it “Cyborgs Versus Zombies” but…

HBO can’t get enough of Bruce, Diana, Lance, “ck” the ever changing “Diana’s State Employee”… and… Goldberg. They are the darlings of HBO.

    Who knew?

  62. - btowntruth - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 10:18 pm:

“John Shimkus:Term Limits For Thee But Not For Me.”

  63. - Peon - Monday, Mar 7, 16 @ 10:24 pm:

The many confusions of the Governor:
    1. A budget is leverage.
    2. I will never lose control of events no matter the level of chaos that the lack of a budget produces.
    3. Voters will blame MJM for everything if his approval is still slightly worse than mine.
    4. Politics is not an art or skill.
