Proft’s closing ads in McCann district
Saturday, Mar 12, 2016 - Posted by Rich Miller [Reader comments are now open.] * The first closer by Dan Proft’s Liberty Principles PAC is called “Dishonor” and hits Sen. Sam McCann hard because he “lied his way into office… We can’t trust him again.” Oof… * The second is a positive spot for McCann’s Republican primary opponent Bryce Benton, who Proft claims will “challenge Madigan at every turn”… * Related…

Bleah to both.

This race is a lot closer than I expected, mainly due to McCann’s foibles IMO.

Today’s reality?
If Sanders surges in the 50th, McCann is done for, no matter McCann’s problems, or McCann’s Labor support.
I do find it fascinating the Labor voters feel the need to support Sanders while Rauner is going to take out Labor’s sole GOP Labor supporter.
That’s where I have absolutely ZERO sympathy.
“Look at Bernie! I voted for him!”
“What about McCann? You didn’t crossover for McCann?”
“But… Bernie!”
Yep. Zero sympathy.

RRW - no matter what people say, Bryce is not a bad candidate. He’s young, photogenic, works for a respected institution and attends the biggest church in Central Illinois (which matters in a GOP primary). His record is relatively clean, which also helps given Senator Sam’s issues. Those are all pluses in the eyes of primary voters. I know people on this blog aren’t fans of his, but there are a lot worse candidates in the 50th compared to Mr. Benton.

Benton’s been “working to thwart terrorist attacks?”
A job as a trooper doesn’t automatically mean “you’re working to thwart terrorist attacks.”
The statement implies some actual work directed at attacks that were in motion.
An example, please. Otherwise, it’s like claiming you were a Marine.

Wordslinger, ISP isn’t just troopers you see on the street. They assist in a lot of intelligence gathering, planning,?and coordination with the Feds and police throughout the country. Benton works in this area of the department.

You say Benton is a good candidate. We’ve been deluged with Benton ads yet we have never heard him speak. All we get are pretty pictures from the model and on those rare occasions when they’re actually espousing positions we get Rauner’s talking points. He’s not a candidate, he’s a puppet.

Who is Benton gathering “intelligence” on in regards to “terrorism?”
How is he going about that?

== Bryce is not a bad candidate. ==
Give me a break. I haven’t seen him personally working the district. Yes, lots of signs, TV, radio and mailers, almost all done by someone else. Yes, they do have a ground game in Springfield. But the last person I want representing me is a bought and paid for Rauner toady.

Sorry McCann, even though Brucie is trying to nail you, I don’t like you enough to pull an R ballot even though I hated Brucie enough to do so to vote against him.
- Team Sleep - Monday, Mar 14, 16 @ 9:51 am:
RNUG - compared to some candidates, I’d say Bryce is about as good as Rauner could’ve recruited. If you followed Bryce on social media you’d see that he’s out-and-about. I get that you don’t like Bryce. Fair enough. But to say that he’s not working the district is false. Gray Noll didn’t work the district. Bryce has and is, and he won’t get taken the woodshed in the smaller counties.
- Norseman - Monday, Mar 14, 16 @ 10:26 am:
=== lots of signs ===
RNUG, an overwhelmingly majority of Benton’s signs are on public property and empty lots. As we all know, this is not a pro-Benton movement.

AFSCME e-mail alerts for weeks have been urging members to pull a GOP ballot and vote for McCann.
- Nicknac - Monday, Mar 14, 16 @ 4:05 pm:
Proft has from day one coordinated with Benton, which PACS are prohibited from doing.
- Anonymous - Monday, Mar 14, 16 @ 8:13 pm:
Yes, lets elect Benton because he puts his life on the line everyday and believes in the second amendment. I am sorry, but these lines get old, you choose that line of work, it comes with the territory. He’s bought and paid for by Rauner- I would take Trump over him in the State Senate.
- BigKahuna - Tuesday, Mar 15, 16 @ 7:45 am:
Thwarting terrorist attacks…….Benton has been on the job 5 years, makes $101,000.00 a year at the rank of “Trooper First Class.” His overall experience is minimal. I would wager he is yet to make his first felony arrest sitting in that “Intelligence Gathering Center.”
