Rauner has bet the farm on the destruction of AFSCME. Time will tell if it pays off or if it will destroy the ILGOP. Here’s my question. Which moves people more, the Ogre stateworker image controlled by a midget Madigan, or a homeless elderly woman kicked out of the nursing home who can’t get meals on wheels anymore? You can’t hide social pain forever. It can be stifled as it has. But eventually it grows to a point where it can’t be hidden anymore. Someone knows a victim. We’re at that tipping point now. People will vote accordingly.
“Always bargaining in “good faith” says the guy who wants to sell you the Brooklyn bridge.”
He was never bargaining. He stated his demands that he knew he would never get surrender of and proceeded after an appropriate amount of time to declare that the union wasn’t bargaining. In pursuit of destroying public service unions he will destroy the state..to save it…
Did Terri Bryant or any of the other GOP legislators whose districts are filled with AFSCME members take offense at this, or are they stuffed in the pocket of Rauner’s suit which is not shown in the picture?

Rauner should never have posed for this picture. It just drives more of a wedge between the state and ASFSCME. A deal is going to need to be negotiated and it’s likely AFSCME is going to need to make some concessions. It’s hard to sell those concessions to union members if they see something like this.

Tasteless but prescient cutout. If I correctly recall the movie, Master Blaster (Madigan) survived, but Blaster (AFSME) died in the doomed Barter Town (Illinois) arena. And the dystopian future society continued.
He needs to scratch off unlimited privatization. That’s really the only thing I absolutely won’t accept and will strike over. The rest (increased, healthcare costs, wage freeze, etc) I don’t like but can live with.

It appears Terri Bryant & the rest of the GOP are stuffed in Rauner’s billfold.
