Come on, folks, we know what’s going on. The Great Campaigner is trying to gain some traction and House seats in Southern Illinois. That’s who he’s talking to and who he cares about right now, not the whole state. If he cared about the whole state, he’d be in Springfield working with his staff to try and get a deal done.
Seriously? You are supposed to be an advocate for the State of Illinois … our Governor. A good governor does not diss his own state. He represents all the people. OMG this guy is too much!!!
===The Great Campaigner is trying to gain some traction and House seats in Southern Illinois. That’s who he’s talking to and who he cares about right now,… ===
That’s 100% not helping right now.
The day after, June 1st, with no budget, no stopgap, no… everything…
… Rauner wants to be a Partisan shill?
Rauner needs, minimum 40 Democrats in both chambers…
That’s 4-0, not four…
… to get any compromise now.
This is absurd. Thus runs counter to cobbling.
Maybe - @MisterJayEm - is right?
It’s well beyond picking off a seat or 3 when Rauner needs 40 Democrats, some maybe from “She-Cah-Go”
I tried to get into Vienna event and was not allowed as stated it was an invite only
That a way to be open to public!
Why does he not sign SB2038 the FY16 Human Service Stop Gap bill on his desk!
Still campaigning and engaging in the same dishonest rhetoric we heard throughout the campaign and the past 18 months of his administration.
We deserve better than this pandering and disingenuous reasoning. Millions of people who live in this state are looking for you to stop playing your silly mind games and actually get some things done for all of us.
== Serious questions: Are these the actions of a governor who wants to make a budget deal?

@MisterJayEm for the win.

Have never understood the GOP’s love of bashing Chicago (other than the fact some downstate areas love it), but why in the world do they go out of their way to take shots at the largest pool of voters in Illinois. Can’t they count?
Last time I checked downstate, Chicago, and everywhere else in Illinois needed social services and higher ed… ah, forget it. Ah, forget it, let’s just bash Chicago summore!
For a guy that clouted his kid into a Chicago public school he sure seems determined to bankrupt CPS.
I used to think that all those people who wanted Cook County to be its own state were crazy. I’m still not for the bill but I think I’m at the point where I’d welcome subject matter hearings on it.

Sad day indeed to see a governor speak like that. Alton and Chicago are both wonderful places united in a single State (and previously by a now defunct Illinois Terminal Railroad).

- Grandson of Man - Wednesday, Jun 1, 16 @ 3:27 pm:
Rauner was later asked about his Chicago connection and said, “We made lots and lots of money in Chicago, because it’s an international business center with great schools, infrastructure, capital investment. Retirement investments have been great also.
“But it’s a terrible place and has turned Illinois into a Banana Republic. It’s killing jobs and growth. I know. I talked to lots and lots of business owners who said they don’t want to locate in this state.”
Thanks, gov. Guess that means you want us downstaters to push our leglisators, including your friend Dwight Kay, to pressure you to be responsible and collaborate on funding SIUE, SIUC, and a whole host of community colleges down here, not to mention the K-12 districts our kids attend. Also, I’ll take your advice and lobby those same Rauner-sympathizing legislators to restore childcare funding for low-income working parents in cities such as East St. Louis, Cahokia, etc., so that they don’t have to quit their jobs due to lack of childcare. Oh…that isn’t really what you had in mind, governor?
Gov. Rauner in Alton: We need to vote for downstate, not Chicago.–
Really? Why? The economic engine is Chicago not Alton. Chicago is 90% of the GDP (one of the largest in the world) generated by this state. And the businessman doesn’t understand this? Can he go any lower?

Instead of unity, we find enemies within to divide the state.
“A house divided against itself cannot stand.”
Lincoln was talking about the rift caused by the slavery issue. But the concept of a state being pitted against itself rings true today.
Just to be clear, we are not talking about slavery today and that is not the comparison to be drawn.
Our state is horribly divided. Our chief executive is only furthering the divide, a divide which provides him personal financial benefits.
