  1. - How Ironic - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 11:57 am:

Any one want to bet “Blame Madigan” pops out within 3 sentences of the start of Rauner’s remarks?

  2. - Mama - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:00 pm:

Lets hope Cullerton, Senate President, will tell us the Senate passed the budget!

  3. - Nick Name - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:05 pm:

“We will continue to negotiate in good faith with his reform-minded caucus members.”

Yeah how did your promise to negotiate “in good faith” with AFSCME turn out?

  4. - Precinct Captain - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:08 pm:

As delusional and out of touch as ever.

Who are your magical Dems Bruce? re: http://goo.gl/yQLe8Q

  5. - Michelle Flaherty - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:09 pm:

Hey look, it’s “no tie” Wednesday.

  6. - Norseman - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:10 pm:

These reruns are getting soooo old.

  7. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:11 pm:

    Two Things…

SB2038 advocates, Rauner is holding that hostage.

Capt. Queeg had fewer people conspiring against him… Just sayin’…

  8. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:14 pm:

How Ironic, if those words are spewed quickly by Rauner, he will be off to an accurate start.

  9. - SinkingShip - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:15 pm:

Is Sandack wearing jeans? I guess “…taking steps towards reforming IL…” can be done in denim.

  10. - Nick Name - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:20 pm:

    Ron Sandack sounds frustrated too.

  11. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:21 pm:

“House Democrats need to tell us why they’re not supporting budget bills that will ensure schools open this fall.”

Maybe because Rauner fails to explain why individuals in teh GOP in the legislature are wholly owned by him. Quit advocating non-budget items, with items that are budget related. Quit using children as an excuse and actually do your job while changing the school funding formula.

  12. - East Central Illinois - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:24 pm:

So now Sandack is gonna be the great defender of the guy that was “going to take all the arrows”??

  13. - Markus - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:24 pm:

Governor Sandack now responding to questions?

  14. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:25 pm:

How many czar’s do we need? So you have the board of education, then a secretary for education, then another one for policy, then a COO, then a CIO, then six deputies here….And if schools open late, then so be it. There are human service providers which help schools out also that need funding. Budget items only, not non-budget items.

  15. - Formerly Known As... - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:26 pm:

Purvis says under HB 6583 and SB3434

CPS gets $105 mill in hold harmless instead of losing $74 mill under the current funding formula due to enrollment losses

It increases early childhood funding by $75 mill

It includes money for additional programs, including After School Matters in Chicago, Agricultural Education, the National Board Certified Teachers, Teach for America, and others

No district loses money. Every district gets at least the same funding it got last year

  16. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:26 pm:

This… This IS the Owl… Make NO mistake.

@RonSandack: I’m frustrated 2, but taking steps towards reforming IL more important than short term budget stalemate. - Ron Sandack, 9/28/15

Don’t be fooled by Ron Samdack.

    Right? Exactly right.

“Of all the phonies, the Owl is the phoniest phony” …

Sorry Rauner Press Shop, I borrowed your Charlie Brown lingo.

  17. - Nick Name - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:29 pm:

“We can’t have the government shut down. That’s not fair.” - Bruce Rauner, right now.

    Words fail me.

  18. - Ghost - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:30 pm:

looks like some tough questions and teally poor responses. my two favs his inability to name one school that matches his antecdote, and his failure to explain satisfactorily why he wont sign the bill on his desk

  19. - LINK - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:30 pm:

In these type of venues, has anyone - reporter or the like - ever asked what is the ROI on the Turnaround Agenda and followed up to see the report/data utilized to derive the benefits from implementing the items, and as compared to potential harm some might incur?

    Back to my nap….

  20. - dominionhinny - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:31 pm:

Wow, you can tell these guys are feeling the heat.

I don’t understand why they can’t comprehend “Blame Madigan” won’t suffice in Rauner’s manufactured crisis.

  21. - Mama - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:31 pm:

“Rauner: The speaker is not willing to call bills for votes and “I’m not into waisting time.”

Governor, which bills were not called after passing the 3rd reading?

  22. - Mama - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:33 pm:

“Within a couple of years, we can be paying down our debts. We can be growing out of these problems” Rich Miller

    HOW? Please tell!

  23. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:34 pm:

=== he (Rauner) doesn’t know who else has done as much as he and Mrs. Rauner for Chicago schools===

“So if I want to destroy Chicago schools, Diana and I can!” - Fake Gov. Rauner.

What a pathetic, self serving, self-granduring thing to say.

Always about how RICH he is. Embarrasing.

  24. - Cubs in '16 - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:34 pm:

===When pressed on his own tone, he blames the Democrats===

Speaker Madigan and the governor’s tone he controls?

  25. - Norseman - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:34 pm:

The Raunerite vilification of anyone who dissents continues. Sandack joins the creepy crawlers in this process.

  26. - Nick Name - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:34 pm:

Blames the Dems for the rough tone — then he whips out the “conflict of interest” card again.

  27. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:36 pm:

I’m guessing Owl Sock Puppets will be all the rage this summer.

    How fun…

  28. - Mama - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:36 pm:

“Rauner says “the answer is emphatically yes” when asked whether reforms will produce enough revenues to pay off the back bills”

Show your work! Show us the real numbers!

  29. - The Captain - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:36 pm:

Bruce Rauner, whose campaign slogan was “I’ve been successful at everythin I’ve ever done”, has failed to pass a budget in either of the first two years of his term: “IT’S EVERYONE ELSE’S FAULT!!!”

  30. - BBG Watch - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:37 pm:

    Wow … sounds like it’s Chicago’s fault!

  31. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:38 pm:

Rauner will, again, get a pass on his numbers, his rhetoric, and sadly Rauner’s victimhood.

    This press conference will succeed…

    Rauner Press Shop wins again.

Now, will this lead to 71 and 36…

“But did you see the coverage we got!”

    Exactly right.

  32. - 47th Ward - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:39 pm:

Rauner was actually pretty good toward the end there, talking about how the Democrats drove Illinois into the ditch and now they don’t want to change anything, just raise taxes and keep it going. That’s a pretty good message.

The truth is way more nuanced and complicated, but who cares about the truth? This was good theater, and the acting was top-notch.

  33. - Mama - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:40 pm:

“We can’t have the government shut down. That’s unfair to the people of the state”

Governor, if you believe that, you should not force the unions into a strike!

  34. - Qui Tam - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:40 pm:

=”Within a couple of years, we can be paying down our debts. We can be growing out of these problems” Rich Miller

Mama + 1. We now have a glimpse at a solution that could be deficit negative with 2 years. The Gov. need to tell citizens how this will work.

  35. - LINK - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:41 pm:

Governor, you state that many Democrats support you privately. You state that many Chicago schools are like prisons and in terrible shape. You state ________. Etc. In all these cases where you are asked, respectfully to provide an actual name, place or _____, you either change the subject, talk about Madigan, or the like. And again today this has been repeated. Can you provide at least one name, place or the like in support of your statements. And if not, why should the public believe you?

  36. - East Central Illinois - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:41 pm:

I was sort of hoping the fellow from the protest the other day would show up - - - minus the cussing.

  37. - Mama - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:42 pm:

“In the absence of reform, we get nowhere”

With the governor’s reforms, we have gotten no where for 18 months.

  38. - Norseman - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:42 pm:

    === Rauner says he’s “feisty,” ===

    I think we’ve just been Rauner-Trumped.

  39. - East Central Illinois - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:43 pm:

    @ LINK +1

  40. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:43 pm:

    Rauner won the day… “Simple”

  41. - Formerly Known As... - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:44 pm:

    ==Ron Sandack sounds frustrated too.==

    He has company.

=I know that you are frustrated and disheartened that we have passed another deadline without a state budget. I am too.= Carol Ammons June 2 2016

  42. - RNUG - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:46 pm:

Does Rauner even hear what he is saying, let alone understand it? Or is he using some super-secret 1.4% dictionary the rest of us don’t have access to?

  43. - Mama - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:46 pm:

    == Rauner says “I didn’t create this crisis… I’m trying to find a solution to this crisis”==

He must be in denial. Not good!

  44. - Wensicia - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:48 pm:

Another day, another media attack. Still just campaignin’.

  45. - Qui Tam - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:49 pm:

“Reform” - continues to be the most misused word.

  46. - RNUG - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:52 pm:

What the write-ups should say is:

Like he has for over two years now, Rauner once again gave a campaign speech attacking the institutions and people he has to work with to pass a budget. When pressed for specifics on his plans and reforms, he refused to provide any factual data. When pressed for who else is with him, he refused to name any of his imaginary Democrat supporters.

  47. - Thoughts Matter - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:52 pm:

    Norseman +1- all three posts.

  48. - Huh? - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:53 pm:

So now we have a feisty rascal as governor? I thought we had a vulture capitalis as governor.

    Sorry, my mistake.

  49. - 47th Ward - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:54 pm:

Rauner says Chicago is “corrupt and mismanaged and financially bereft for years.”

So why did he drop all of that campaign cash on Mayor Daley and Mayor Emanuel? I don’t recall him speaking out about the corruption and mismanagement while he was palling around with these guys for years.

  50. - Mama - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:57 pm:

“The “crisis” is in operations budget.”

Does anyone know what that means?

  51. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 1:00 pm:

===campaign cash on Mayor Daley and Mayor Emanuel===

    Don’t forget Claypool.

  52. - Mama - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 1:00 pm:

    “Rauner: Illinois politics ain’t tidly-winks … ”

How does this remark solve the budget problems for FY16 & FY17?

Does anyone have a Plan B since Plan A clearly isn’t working?

  53. - Lucky Pierre - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 1:00 pm:

Link , what is the ROI on the tax increase required to fund the 7 billion dollar deficit required by Madigan’s no cuts, all revenue budget? The guy with the pocket protector and the slide rule must be somewhere. Ask him what happens if we lose more manufacturing and other businesses.

  54. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 1:06 pm:

===So why did he drop all of that campaign cash on Mayor Daley and Mayor Emanuel? I don’t recall him speaking out about the corruption and mismanagement while he was palling around with these guys for years.===

    ===Don’t forget Claypool.===

    Sadly, that’s all “baloney”.

You can discuss the last and all the issues to that, just not Rauner’s complicity

  55. - Now What? - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 1:06 pm:

Somebody give this man a teleprompter! I assume the master plan of “Destroy and Obfuscate” is still intact? Then the beatings will continue until the morale improves…

  56. - Formerly Known as Frenchie M - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 1:06 pm:

Surely this is a preview of his fall campaign.

Essentially, he’ll be arguing on hypoteheticals — “If only Madigan would …” or “If only Cullerton would …” and pretend — with a smug smile — that the *hypothetical* money will come flowing in.

Campign-wise, it’s genius. It’s like trying to refute Freud empirically — it can’t be done. If you can’t disprove it — if there’s no way to argue specifically that it won’t work — it’s always in the realm of possibility.

Genius. And this is how it’ll shake-out. Impotent Rauner with unprovable hypotheticals against Machine Madigan with baggage.

  57. - argh - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 1:07 pm:

    ==- Mama - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 12:57 pm:

“The “crisis” is in operations budget.”

Does anyone know what that means? ==

The operational expenses of state agencies, including paying contractors who provide supplies or services to agencies. Almost everything else is covered by consent decrees or court orders.

  58. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 1:07 pm:

===campaign cash on Mayor Daley and Mayor Emanuel===

    Don’t forget Claypool.–

Indeed. And I suspect there was a little cronyism involved in that Payton School episode.

The guy will say anything. It’s meaningless word salad. Pay attention to what he does — or doesn’t do.

Did no one ask him why he hasn’t signed the emergency approp. for social services? Is that possible?

  59. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 1:08 pm:

Still no word on higher education AT ALL.

Why doesn’t the Governor’s stopgap budget fully fund higher education and social services for the entire year? Higher education has already taken an 80% cut for FY2016.

His position is indefensible. Shouldn’t the democrats use this as leverage to open the schools?

  60. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 1:13 pm:

This is a possible way this shakes out…

Rauner will get his stories on…

Corrupt Madigan, “I’m trying”, rhetoric is just words, but “Madigan and Cullerton and Rahm and Claypool are… “… Madigan refuses, Rauner is working, Republicans are trying…

    Raunerites won the day.

    Again.

I’m not going to be surprised when the aftermath of this is the continued Raunerites winning in the Press.

  61. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 1:13 pm:

===Did no one ask him why he hasn’t signed the emergency approp. for social services?===

Amanda did. He dodged it. I think she asked him twice.

  62. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 1:20 pm:

    “Illinois politics ain’t tidly-winks”

Tidly winks? What happened to bean bag?

Fiesty? Tidly winks? What is happening? Things are moving so fast, I just cannot keep up.

  63. - Winnin' - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 1:20 pm:

Bein’ ‘mean’ worked in bidness. Wonderin’ why it doesn’t work in governin’.

  64. - Anon221 - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 1:21 pm:

    Go Amanda!!!

  65. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 1:28 pm:

===Did no one ask him why he hasn’t signed the emergency approp. for social services?===

Amanda did. He dodged it. I think she asked him twice.–

    Thanks.

That means one man is standing in the way of enacting bipartisan, compromise, emergency funding.

The objective of squeezing the beast for the necessary shakeout will continue.

The difference between words and actions.

  66. - Say What - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 1:35 pm:

Did anyone else hear Sandack’s f-bomb when he took over for the governor?

  67. - AC - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 1:39 pm:

Dale Carnegie once said, If you want to gather honey, don’t kick over the beehive. Personally, I always discounted much of the advice in “How to Win Friends and Influence People” as intuitive and obvious, but I can think of one person who needs it, desperately.

  68. - btowntruth from forgottonia - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 3:11 pm:

Sandack: “There’s no good reason for why we’re not in session.”
=================================================Ok Owl,tell Bruce to use his powers granted to him under Article IV,Section 5,Paragraph (b) of the Illinois State Constitution.
If he doesn’t,both Bruce and Sandack need to shut up about legislators not having sessions.

  69. - btowntruth from forgottonia - Wednesday, Jun 8, 16 @ 3:13 pm:

“I’m here working every day” - Um, actually, no he’s not. He’s been barnstorming for days.
    =================================================

Another ball smashed into the upped deck by the heavy hitter Rich Miller.

  70. - Anonymous - Thursday, Jun 9, 16 @ 8:51 am:

What says volumes? Look at the stance, facial gestures of the two men standing to Rauner’s left.

They appear to be grimacing, their facial gestures and body posture appear to indicate they really don’t want to be there.

Rauner has done more harm to the Republic party than any other Republican and Democratic govern in this state’s history.

    Thank you Mr. Rauner.
