Not fair, Trump is just an fascist demagogue. Rauner is very intelligent and besides calling someone “corrupt”, he has some sense of decency.

    Trump Bigoted Bloviator
    Rauner is perfidious

  2. - Honeybear - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:33 pm:

Perfidy takes great intelligence. A first grader could keep up with Trump.

  3. - frisbee - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:34 pm:

Both are “successful” businessmen but Trump’s remarks towards just about everyone but white males are nowhere near the most insulting Rauner remarks. Voted Not fair simply because of the “insults and disparaging remarks” if that was left out it would be fair.

  4. - Norseman - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:35 pm:

Insults and disparaging remarks have been SOP for Rauner. The only change I’d make would be to have Trump give Rauner the degree.

  5. - Johnny Pyle Driver - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:36 pm:

I said not fair, but to be honest, I don’t even know by what standard I’m judging the fairness of this thing. He and his flaks certainly dish out far worse, so by that standard, fair. And he’s brought the petty national level politicking to the state in ways it probably hasn’t been done before. So, fair on that point. But he’s nowhere near Trump. Trump is a literal caricature of a WWE wrestler. For all his faults I believe Rauner at least is aware of the process and what he wants to achieve from it

  6. - Bogey Golfer - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:36 pm:

Voted “not fair”. Rauner’s insults have been primarily to individuals. Trump goes after whole groups - women, POWs, immigrants (legal and otherwise), Muslims. Rauner needs to broaden his targets.

  7. - Independent Retired Lawyer Journalist - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:36 pm:

    Of course, it’s fair.
    Totally accurate, of course not.
Rauner is more polished than Trump. But Emanuel was right to make the comparison.
The political method of verbal destruction through hyperbole and bluster is parallel.

  8. - Anonymous - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:36 pm:

With a minor in rhetoric over substance.

  9. - steward - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:37 pm:

Here’s hoping that we don’t have to hear Bruce talk about his “big hands.” /s

  10. - Norseman - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:37 pm:

Oops. The cartoon has it right

  11. - 47th Ward - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:38 pm:

Fair. Rauner tosses out the word “corrupt” so often it’s lost all meaning.

And it’s very fair compared with some of the stuff Stantis gets away with every day, including this sexist gem they even had a caption contest for. I’m sure Kass, Dold and the rest of the frat boys giggled themselves silly over this one.

    http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/.a/6a00d8341c60fd53ef017d41dc274f970c-pi

It’s like they don’t have wives, sisters or daughters.

  12. - Union Leader - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:38 pm:

Rauner goes after whole groups too, unions and state workers. He classifies them as lazy and corrupt.

  13. - Joe M - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:38 pm:

Both have a similar attitude about higher education - only those with money need apply.

  14. - Try-4-Truth - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:39 pm:

I don’t know if it’s fair or not.

    But, it’s funny.

  15. - Harry - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:42 pm:

Fair. There are differences but an editorial cartoon has to use a broad brush and I think on the whole they both practice insult politics enough to make the cartoon legit.

  16. - AC - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:43 pm:

Fair to Rauner, but not fair to Trump. Trump hasn’t destroyed the social services and finances of an entire state, at least not yet. Plus, Trump’s offensive insults while scarry for a potential president are sometimes funny. Rauner is seldom if ever amusing.

  17. - Graduated College Student - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:43 pm:

*Thinks about that ad that went out this week showing an abandoned building in the mountain west and passing it off as a Chicago school*

    Fair.

  18. - walker - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:45 pm:

    Not fair.

Rauner is a much more well-rounded business executive than Trump, and better educated in general. When I saw the cartoon, my first impression was that the diploma was going the other way.

  19. - Dome Gnome - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:46 pm:

I say “fair,” but agree that Rauner isn’t quite as odious as Trump. Bottom line? They each resort to “but he started it!” I can gauge a person’s maturity level by how quickly my mom instincts bubble to the surface; these two make me want to step in and parent them.

  20. - Wensicia - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:48 pm:

It’s especially fair because neither man will admit he’s wrong about anything, not just the insults heaped upon their political foes, including judges that rule against their interests.

But, hey, they’re successful in everything they’ve done!

  21. - peanut - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:52 pm:

Wrong. Rumor is that GTCR purchased Trump University, sold its liabilities to a senile cartoonist, lowered salaries, outsourced all teaching positions to 1099 contract employees, eliminated employee insurance, and resold it back to Donald, who didnt even know the turnaround happened.

  22. - train111 - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:52 pm:

    Fair

If BVR can dish out millions to pay for misleading ads against his legislative foes, then he sure better be willing and able to take it.

  23. - Lester Holt's Mustache - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:53 pm:

Not fair - unless President Trump refuses to sign the federal budget until his wall is built, and then blames Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell while also accusing them of embezzling government funds.

  24. - Triple fat - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:54 pm:

Not fair at all! Trump is a more dapper than Rauner, hands down!

  25. - cdog - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:58 pm:

my previous comment not showing, so trying again.

Absolutely fair. Besides the “insults and disparaging remarks” both use the media, and the media cycle, in a very aggressive way.

A minor difference to this date, Rauner has not banned any media outlets yet, to my knowledge.

But Trump, who can dish it but can’t take it, has gone a step farther, and has banned many media outlets including WashPo, Politico, HuffPo, etc.

  26. - Triple fat - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 2:59 pm:

Rhetoric wise? Is that what the question is about???
Well - that’s different then… They are the same.

  27. - Ahoy! - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 3:01 pm:

Looks like a bad attempt at AFSME trying to do something like the Illinois Policy Institute.

  28. - Carhartt Representative - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 3:05 pm:

Not fair. Trump still pronounces his “g”s. Rauner drops them just like us regular people.

  29. - Jimmy H - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 3:14 pm:

Not fair. Rauner is much more stealth, more insidious. I think Trump cares about people more than Rauner and if Trump were Governor Illinois wouldn’t be in death spiral.

  30. - Liberty - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 3:15 pm:

hmmm, Trump is “winning” and Rauner is not… not sure who is the biggest fraud or most intelligent.

  31. - Johnnie F. - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 3:20 pm:

Fair…they both refuse to do the right thing until a court order requires them to do so.

  32. - Last Bull Moose - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 3:22 pm:

Voted not fair. It implies one can learn something at Trump University - false. Also, Rauner was ahead of Trump on theppolitical timeline.

  33. - Anonymous - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 3:30 pm:

Pfleger is more like Trump than Rauner is.

  34. - A guy - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 3:32 pm:

It’s already published, so fair or unfair is kind of a moot point. Probably unfair.

What’s more important is that it’s not very clever. Jack Higgins work, this is not.

  35. - Anonymous - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 3:34 pm:

Not quite fair. Despite the fact that both are self-described salesmen, I think it is more apt to describe Bruce as a graduate of Dale Carnegie-Mellon University who majored in Bust Outs. Trump, on the other hand, was little more than a Carnival Barker guest lecturing in the art of Dunk Tank Insults. And there’s one born every minute.

  36. - Juvenal - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 3:44 pm:

    Rauner is a graduate.

    Trump is Professor emeritus.

    Totally fair.

  37. - 37B - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 3:51 pm:

    Sorry. Anonymous 3:34 was me.

  38. - kimocat - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 3:53 pm:

Fair What makes anyone think that Rauner’s business behavior has been any less dodgier than Trump’s. He just doesn’t generally brag about how he cheated ordinary citizens out of what was owed them. But he would like to.

  39. - downstate commissioner - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 4:07 pm:

    Fair? Absolutely.

  40. - RNUG - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 4:08 pm:

I don’t know if it is fair, but it made me laugh when I saw it earlier today on the AFSCME FB group.

  41. - Carhartt Union Negotiating Team - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 4:27 pm:

Fair or Unfair? None of the above. Just seeing Rauner wander Springfield bars and the farmers’ market with his goofy leather vest, his thick, deep indigo jeans, and his long sleeved flannel “regular folks” shirt is such a foolish self-inflicted caricature that no cartoonist could top it.

  42. - Cleric dcn - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 4:41 pm:

I would say Trump is not a Rauner, Trump he has a lot more money. I think Trump deep down has more feeling for people.

  43. - Amalia - Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 4:52 pm:

I don’t like Rauner, but he is not Trump. besides, he probably has more money than Trump and his shell games!
