So the big question for me is … do we settle for a stopgap budget OR force them to do a “real” budget instead of kicking the can for another 6 months. This seriously should have been over on July 1, 2015. Look at all of the victims … can we really wait? NOTHING has been solved or even close to being solved. They’re all fighting over a stopgap budget now.
I really, really hope that its just a bunch of blindfolded mayors swinging sticks at pinatas of Madigan and Cullterton filled with coins. Please please please.
The upside of supporting Rauner is that he could win this game or at least this inning.
But, what I don’t get is what is so different about the City schools and the CPS pensions vs the other programs across the State. Other than Rauner just doesn’t like unions.
“Why bankruptcy for CPS? Because Mayor Emanuel refused to support my Turnaround Agenda and force state Democrats to do the same. It’s that simple. It’s how I do business.”
1) trying to make sure the schools open this fall so he doesn’t have to take the blame
and
2) pushing for municipal / local government bankruptcy so he can try to move TRS liability to the local districts and then try to eliminate existing teacher’s pensions
perhaps the Governor would like to look at other governments about mismanagement. for example, Townships and mismanagement instead of a simple blame the City of Chicago meme. several in the NW suburbs spend way more on administrative costs for General Assistance than they should, in the case of Maine Township, an amount that is greater than the amount given out to those in need. how about those “CEOs”?
You are absolutely correct on both points you make.
Problem for Rauner is that bankruptcy doesn’t have 60 and 30 (or 71 and 36), and Schoold don’t open, that’s on a governor. If it wasn’t on a governor, Rauner wouldn’t be the victim he pretends to be.
- Formerly Known as Frenchie M - Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:10 am:
It’s safe to say — for me, at least — that once Rauner starts labelling publications as ‘collectivist’ (as in Crain’s) — all bets are off and the loony train is, finally, free for all.
=what is so different about the City schools and the CPS pensions vs the other programs across the State=
Governor’s trying to push municipal bankruptcy law through GA - states can’t file bankruptcy. With municipal bankruptcy he can bust ALL the unions. He’ll find a way to send state pensions back to municipalities and bust them, too.
Rauner’s sounding more like Trump everyday. The only difference, when someone criticizes him (Crain’s, Chicago’s mayor) he calls them collectivists instead of losers. though he means the same thing.
“Rauner would not say if agencies plan to go to court to keep $ flowing for public safety and IDOT after July 1.” Wait. So the State is going to sue ITSELF for funding?
- Formerly Known as Frenchie M - Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:20 am:
So far, though, no one has been labelled a ‘corrupt collectivist’.
In Bruce’s world view, that’s pretty much the bottom.
The collectivist publication formerly known as ‘Crain’s Chicago Business’ is still — for now, at least — two rungs from the bottom.
The bottom rung is, I assume, for someone like Roberta Lynch? Karen Lewis? Rahm?
Does he even know what Collectivist is? Derived from Collectivism: The principles or system of ownership and control of the means of production and distribution by the people collectively, usually under the supervision of a government.
–Rick Pearson@rap30
There’s that word again. #ILGov Rauner uses “collectivist” to describe Crain’s in rethinking it’s 2014 gov endorsement.–
Dartmouth? Really?
Can any of the heroic-superstar-sycophants inform their boss that he’s making a fool out of himself by using words that he clearly has no clue as to their meaning?
I’m certainly no fan of the governor’s malignant agenda, but I’m embarrassed for the guy. Help him out, for crying out loud.
Che Guevara, a role model for Illinois
Nationaling Caterpillar, lessons from Hugo Chávez

== Kerry Lester@kerrylester .@GovRauner “we will use every power of our office to make sure schools open on time.”==
The problem with this statement is he is only speaking of P-12. He wants the current higher education schools to close and sold to a for-profit school organization. He does not believe in MAP Grants.
This guy is terribule in the word of Ser Charles. Where’s a Targaryen when you need them.

There are only 2 reasons why a Mayor would be standing with the Governor right now:
1.) They have the same political ideology as the Governor (Naperville)
2.) They want to declare bankruptcy so they can erase the mistakes they’ve made for over a decade (Rockford).
No other reason to stand with the Governor.
