Scherer opponent drops out

* WAND TV…
Local business owner Cindy Deadrick-Wolfer suspended her [Illinois House] campaign Tuesday.
Deadrick-Wolfer, who owns Shop on Main and also runs the marketing company Events Plus, was running as a republican for the Illinois House of Representatives 96th District. […]
Deadrick-Wolfer was running against incumbent Sue Scherer for the district covering Macon, Sangamon, and Christian Counties.
Right now, it appears, Scherer will be unopposed on November’s ballot.
* Her full statement…
As of today, Tuesday, June 28, 2016, I am formally announcing that I have suspended my campaign for Illinois House of Representatives 96th District.
As a business person and community member, I have not only witnessed, but have experienced the many issues that impact the viability of a thriving State of Illinois. I had hoped that my background in business and community would provide a common sense voice for change and help put us on a different path.
Over the past several months, I have had the opportunity to meet wonderful people, within the various communities that make up the 96th District, and have learned a great deal about a number of organizations that are providing exceptional service and outreach. I wish them all the best as they strive to make a difference.
This was a difficult decision and I will be eternally grateful for the support of friends, family, business colleagues and many elected officials for their personal efforts in this endeavor. They have provided support through their gifts of time and talent, financial resources and expertise. Unfortunate as it is, that effort is just not enough in this politically challenging time.
Rep. Scherer has her issues, but it’s such a Democratic district that Deadrick-Wolfer wasn’t given much of a chance anyway.

Resources are being marshaled. She didn’t make the cut. That money is going elsewhere.

(Sigh)
Rauner has unlimited money.
“Un-Lim-Eh-Ted”
If you want to make this about a fiscal decision you’re really not paying any attention.

In a decently drawn district, Scherer would have as much chance of being elected as I would being a major league pitcher.

–Rep. Scherer has her issues–
Indeed.
But we can all relax and be thankful that this district was created to help protect minority interests so that a white women from Forsyth can be a Madigan duckling.

===Rauner has unlimited money. ===
True, but he has limited human resources.

@Ahoy!: A white woman from Forsyth who provides the leadership and constituent services of a potted plant.
To think that the Speaker dumped all that money in primaries to defeat well-qualified African-Americans is remarkable.

More than any of us, true. But he still has a limit as to how interested he is in spending it on investments that are unlikely to pay dividends.

Is this accurate? The Board of Elections still shows that Deadrick-Wolfer as an “Active” candidate.

Give it a bit of time. She just withdrew today.

Sigh x 2. Pay attention. She didn’t make the cut. No matter how much money is out there, there is a serious effort to be in contention. If you’re not, the money train, the people train and the advisory train don’t stop at your station.
The bigger news is that it’s happened this quickly.

As a someone who lives in the 96th I would always rather have two choices instead of one. Hopefully this gives Rep. Sherer some more autonomy and will actually start to provide some constituent services. I did some door to door for Gina Latham and wish she would’ve ran again since she seemed to much better represent the district.
- AlabamaShake - Tuesday, Jun 28, 16 @ 11:15 am:
So, is she resigning because she can’t win? Or is she resigning because the HGOP/Rauner operation is forcing her to resign and then they’ll replace her with someone they like more?
Rumor has it they’re trying to do the same thing with Steve Reick (force him to drop out) in the Frank district.
- LibertarianWarrior - Tuesday, Jun 28, 16 @ 11:42 am:
Hmmm…so the question now:
Will anyone file as a write-in candidate in the 96th District? (Sure, they’d lose, but perhaps the support they get in November kickstarts a full-fledged run in 2018?)
Honestly, I don’t care if it’s a Libertarian or Green party candidate, at long as the people in the 96th can say “I can’t support Scherer. I have to write someone’s name in!”

“Rep. Scherer has her issues.”
No kidding.
Rich, you are such a diplomat!!!!!!!

To drop out officially, one must file a Statement of Withdrawal with the State Board of Elections.
- Mattman - Tuesday, Jun 28, 16 @ 12:15 pm:
well crud. was hoping for a change here in the 96th. while Sue was a whiz-bang of a fantastic educator, she is a lousy, LOUSY politician. her reputation as a good woman has taken some mighty dings by her work (or lack thereof) in Springfield.

This is strictly a case of money talks and bulls… walks. Finds out her businesses suffered greatly when she entered the political arena. Go figure.

Substitute “Macomb” for “Forsyth” and you describe Norine Hammond.

- A Guy -
I was only referring to the money and the money alone.
The fact you missed that is not surprising…
