Wednesday, Jul 20, 2016 - Posted by Rich Miller

* From the twitters…

Um, no.

* From Rauner’s spokesman…

I’d refer you to his public schedule which indicates he will be in Park Ridge signing legislation. That’s where he will be

* Daily public schedule…

Daily Public Schedule: Wednesday, July 20, 2016

What: Governor Tours Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Signs Legislation Expanding Coverage for Breast Cancer Screenings
Where: Advocate Lutheran General Hospital Center for Advanced Care – First Floor
1700 Luther Ln., Park Ridge
Date: Wednesday, July 20, 2016
Time: 12:00 p.m.

* From a GOP campaign official…

I think there was also an event honoring Radogno in absentia

    Is absentia in Cleveland?

  2. - JohnnyPyleDriver - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 9:20 am:

    I got a good chuckle out of the Illinois delegation’s shout out to the absent Rauner last night during roll call. BEST GOVERNOR IN THE COUNTRY!!!! WOOOOO!!

  3. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 9:21 am:

    I don’t believe the statement Rauner’s flack gave.

    Nope. I don’t believe it!

    “Why?”

    Ole Slip and Sue could always make Rauner appear and disappear and none of us would be any the wiser.

    “You honor both me and the man who hired me, so (POOF!!!)… here he is!”

    Then… after the last champagne is poured, and the last guest leaves… hired Slip and Sue will “Poof” Bruce back…

    I guess, at least Murray Energy is union. But, it looks like Rauner is being honored by a non-job creator…(source: The Cerbat Gem)

    “The St. Clairsville, Ohio-based Murray Energy Corporation is planning for a massive number of layoffs to occur in September. The company says it issued the notices for its operations in Ohio, West Virginia, Illinois, Kentucky, Utah and Pennsylvania. According to the warning, as many as 82 percent of the company’s workers, or about 4,400 employees, could lose their jobs. Murray Energy is currently the largest privately held coal company in the US.”

    If you don’t know anything about Murray Energy and Bob Murray, do yourself a favor and spend a little time on the Googles this morning.

  6. - 360 Degree TurnAround - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 9:27 am:

    It looks like Murray wants to declare bankruptcy soon. Yet, it appears there is money to honor Illinois Republicans! He’s laying off your constituents, but thanks for the money!

  7. - PublicServant - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 9:28 am:

    Hey, anything for a party!

  8. - illini - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 9:34 am:

    Old Shepherd - exactly right. You can learn a lot about a person by the company he keeps.

  9. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 9:35 am:

    That’s the first time I’ve seen the phrase “in absentia” used in connection with an honor.

    Usually, there’s a pretty nasty verb in front of “in absentia.”

    Wow. Here’s a good one about Murray:

    OW- Here’s a mini-series idea to complement “Dad’s Home State”-

    Too Hot in Cleveland!

  12. - New Slang - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 9:37 am:

    —Bob Murray, CEO of Murray Energy explains that if four things don’t align for his company in the next three months, all of the coal miners he currently employs will be without jobs and all of the retirees of Murray energy will lose all of their pension and medical benefits, both of which could have a ripple effect across the entire Ohio Valley.—

    I’m sure he’ll be fine (financially), however.

    “Murray Closing reception”

    Are they celebrating Pat Quinn’s decision to close the Murray Developmental Center?
    No wonder Rauner isn’t in Cleveland. He’s never supported that. He’s probably going to spend the day in Centralia.

    “It is irresponsible to close Murray Center unless we can make absolutely certain that the most vulnerable residents are being cared for in an environment that is as good as – or better than – Murray Center,” Rauner said. “Right now, Murray Center is the best option for these families.”

    No worries. Murray probably shook down his employees for the money for the party before firing them.

    Love the red $16. pork tattoo T shirt from Lola what a souvenir

  16. - Saluki - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 9:44 am:

    Why would he be in Cleveland? The Indians are out of town playing at Kansas City…..and I think he has already been to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame….

  17. - illini - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 9:46 am:

    I’m sure Congressman “Corporations are my best friends” Shimkus will be there.

  18. - Huh? - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 9:47 am:

    Well there is the public schedule and the redacted private schedule that nobody is allowed to see. Cleveland is a short private plane ride away…

  19. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 9:47 am:

    - Anon221 -

    That might be s great “one night special”… made for Cable movie.

    Right now, “DHS” is with Bruce these last few days so we’d need to hire a whole new crew, Cleveland-based…

  20. - 360 Degree TurnAround - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 9:50 am:

    Murray Energy Corporation: “Congressman Shimkus, Bost and Davis we would like to honor you.”

    Congressmen: Thank you so much.

    STL Dispatch, November 2015: Murray Energy Corp. said Thursday it plans to close its New Era mine in Southern Illinois by the middle of next year.

    Murray’s American Coal Company also said it will lay off 44 hourly and six salaried employees effective immediately.

    American Coal operates the New Era and New Future mines about two hours southeast of St. Louis near Galatia, Ill.

    Either remove your tinfoil hate or leave.

  22. - Anon221 - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 9:52 am:

    OW- Maybe Colbert and Stewart could help out:)

  23. - Formerly Known as Frenchie M - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 9:52 am:

    Maybe Murray Energy — like dozens of other corporations, I’m told — is waiting in the wings for Rauner to eliminate collective bargaining in Illinois.

    I realized, though, that when Rauner finally decimates collective bargaining in Illinois — how will we handle dozens and dozens of corporations running willy-nilly, begging to set up shop and create jobs?

    It’ll be a logistical nightmare. I fear there won’t be enough qualified employees. We’re talking billions and billions of immediate dollars. Easily.

    And then all the offices that will need to be built and the retrofitting of the factories. It seems overwhelming to me.

  24. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 9:55 am:

    ===remove your tinfoil hate===

    I meant to write “hat,” of course, but hate works even better in this instance.

    ===OW- Maybe Colbert and Stewart could help out:)===

    I can’t afford them at Scale, writing, acting, or producing, LOL

    I’ll ask anyway..,

  26. - 360 Degree TurnAround - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 10:07 am:

    This will be a great campaign piece for Bradley, Phelps and Forby. Rauner is being honored by a company that is taking jobs away from southern Illinois. Speaks louder than commercials that tie them to Madigan.

  27. - illini - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 10:16 am:

    FKA Frenchie - great snark. Hoping you intended it that way.

    360 - Can’t wait to see those commercials.

  28. - uptown progressive - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 10:17 am:

    According to the program, the Lt. Gov. is also being honored. Please show the appropriate respect

  29. - Rabid - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 10:42 am:

    Where is the “co govenor”?

  30. - The Fool On The Hill - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 11:28 am:

    So what if my approval ratings are the lowest they’ve ever been, people love me!

  31. - Precinct Captain - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 3:41 pm:

    I’d advise that if the delelgation in Cleveland can’t find leadership skills, they bring them back and gift them to Govenor “Salesman.”
