Today’s quotable

* Uh-oh…
* So, Senate President John Cullerton apparently spoke too soon the other day when he was interviewed by the Sun-Times…
“You saw Trump trying to taunt Bernie Sanders and his supporters, and that didn’t work,” Cullerton said, a reference to Trump’s acceptance speech, where the Republican presidential hopeful tried to lure in voters angered over the “rigged” system.
“It’s so obvious that we’re much more united and that we are a larger group,” Cullerton said.
Yep. United. Fully.
* Solis and Mapes obviously have a tough job…

“I don’t belong to an organized political party. I am a Democrat.”
Will Rogers
- Norseman - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 4:09 pm:
Even Bernie can’t control the Burn. Trump is loving it. He’s solidified the haters and bigots, now he’s happy to have the zealots sit this out.
Rauner is in a good place to have his cake and eat it too. Rauner doesn’t want to discuss Trump, but a Trump victory will help him kill labor.
- Anonymous - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 4:11 pm:
DNC is a mess—and it is hilarious!
- Honeybear - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 4:14 pm:
Love me some Will Rogers.
“I read in the wanted ads today, “Be a politician! No experience required.”
“All ways give a dollar to a poor man. It will be in the rich mans pocket by nightfall but at least it passed through the poor fellers hand.”

The immoral tactics the ‘establishment’ in both parties is using is infuriating. It’s obvious large segments of the population don’t want either of the candidates in the White House; myself included. The nation is moving away from a government by the people for the people. It’s very difficult to not be cynical about politics these days.
- Amalia - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 4:16 pm:
I’ll give Bernie credit, he sent a text to his supporters asking for respect from the floor. not that it’s working, but, still. apparently they are incapable of hearing that HRC is against the TPP and Tim Kaine said he would be as well. meanwhile, the Berner crowd definition of progressive continues to focus on things that do not include my reproductive and civil rights. Taking that for granted in the face of Trump, and especially Pence is totally stupid.
- Sam Weinberg - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 4:25 pm:
Surely a four day temper tantrum is worth all the pain that will be inflicted on these people — and those they allege to represent — by President Trump.

Waiting for 2020!
- Matt Vernau - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 4:30 pm:
If the Democrats could run someone like Truman. Experience in sausage making and field grade military rank required, an honest man with some history, I would vote for him
- Nearly Normal - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 4:39 pm:
Well, what did you expect after the leaked emails?? There are enough Bernie folks there stirring up the crowd. Will they boo him? Probably.
People are mad and their emotion keeps them from finding solutions. People want instant gratification and their problems solved ASAP so there is no patience any more.
Also, when you feel the Establishment is rigged against you, you lash out. Saw that at both conventions.
- Lester Holt's Mustache - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 4:49 pm:
Seems like a group of masochistic anarchists. They’re now booing Bernie, even he isn’t liberal enough for them to accept his advice. They’re all basically telling the D party never to cater to them in the future, because no matter what the platform is it won’t be good enough for them. They apparently aren’t old enough to remember the fantasticalness of the Dubya administration.

A paraphrase of Lincoln, “Democrats are like cats in the night. You hear them and think they’re killing each other only to awake and discover they were just making more democrats.”
- Ron Burgundy - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 4:51 pm:
I think we are seeing that “Vote for me. You hate me but that guy is worse!” is not much of a rallying cry. Need to do better.
- Big Muddy - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 4:53 pm:
Dems have been about sticken’ it to the man for decades. Except now “the man” is one of them… and is a woman. The irony here is off the charts hilarious.
- allknowingmasterofracoondom - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 4:53 pm:
Loved the RNC. The DNC may give it a run for the money. This is truly entertainment.
- walker - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 4:57 pm:
Always loved me some messy democracy.
Doesn’t play as well as a scripted reality show, though.
- Jeff Trigg - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 4:59 pm:
If Democrats actually believed in fair, democratic elections and governed accordingly, holding true to the name of their party, they wouldn’t be having this problem. Using tactics and laws to give themselves an advantage over political competition is starting to catch up to them.
- Lucky Pierre - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 5:10 pm:
Hopefully they can avoid booing God like they did four years ago.
- Amalia - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 5:11 pm:
celebrities of Trump….Scott Baio and Anthony Sabato, Jr. tonight from Dems, Sarah Silverman (Sanders supporter), Eva Longoria (Clinton supporter) and Paul Simon too! Convention doing a good job of bringing Sanders supporters to the podium…on platform just had Ben Jealous….and urging unity.
- Wensicia - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 5:20 pm:
Interesting side note: ABC 7 will not be broadcasting the convention live tonight, it’s the Cubs/White Sox Crosstown Classic instead.
- ChrisB - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 5:27 pm:
I don’t want to dox him, but we have a Chicago guy doing press for the DNC. He was a high school buddy of mine. I hope he’s having a good day.
- The All Knowing Oz - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 5:52 pm:
The best is yet to come. Trump 2016!!!
- baloneymous - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 6:00 pm:
its the first day of the convention. of course the bernie folks are gonna make a stink. if they still doing on the last day then i would make a story of it. and when have Dems ever been truly united? LOL
- Arthur Andersen - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 6:12 pm:
Looks like a Circular Firing Squad from here. Ready, Fire, Aim!
- Lester Holt's Mustache - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 6:34 pm:
This is the “Rauner can’t be any worse for unions than Quinn” portion of the convention. Focus so intently on perceived slights, they end up disregarding the big picture.
- Amalia - Monday, Jul 25, 16 @ 6:58 pm:
union speeches quite powerful for Hillary. Trumka trumps Trump. and then Demi Lovato. her music is not my choice, but for someone to stand up and discuss their own mental illness and substance abuse in an adult and smart way, and then sing live was pretty intense. starting to pick it up in the arena.

Putin did it.
hahahaaaaaaa
- RitaB - Tuesday, Jul 26, 16 @ 4:16 am:
Seems like the Democrats pulled this day out in the end. Rocky beginning, solid ending throughout the evening.
- James the Intolerant - Tuesday, Jul 26, 16 @ 8:14 am:
I thought Michelle Obama shut down the opposition with class. What a great speech.
- In 630 - Tuesday, Jul 26, 16 @ 8:16 am:
Michelle Obama’s speech put clamps on the Bernie or Bust noise. They caused a little more ruckus during Warren- different speech mood and tempo created room for the noise. Then during Bernie’s speech is was clear that there were only a few, barely hearable on TV knuckleheads. After Bernie’s speech I don’t see how they can continue to act like they did early on- their noise and ruckus at this point really would just be about them.
- The Muse - Tuesday, Jul 26, 16 @ 8:42 am:
I think the beginning was a bit worrisome for them but in the end, I’d say they pulled it all together. Bernie giving Hillary an unequivocal endorsement sealed it. I mean, it’s no Duck Dynasty character or ’80s heart throb or soap opera actors but boy, did Michelle Obama give a heck of a speech or what???
- Honeybear - Tuesday, Jul 26, 16 @ 8:45 am:
As I mentioned in another post I have a college friend of mine who is there. He did not hear booing at every mention. He only heard booing briefly at 4:30. So this is a media exaggeration. Larry, my friend, and I have had several online arguments about the primaries and would definitely tell me that Sanders delegates were out of line. As a lawyer it would support his argument. I’m actually quite surprised that he hasn’t taken statements from the booers.
