Time to find another write-in, Senator

* Mediaite…
Senator Mark Kirk, a major Republican who has un-endorsed Donald Trump, announced on CNN this afternoon he’s writing in Colin Powell.
When Brooke Baldwin asked about Hillary Clinton, Kirk said, “I can’t support someone who is for the Iran agreement.”
Er, he might want to reconsider that Powell write-in vote then. Per NBC News:
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell expressed support for the nuclear agreement with Iran on Sunday, calling the various planks Iranian leaders accepted “remarkable” and dismissing critics’ concerns over its implementation.
“It’s a pretty good deal,” he said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
Oops again. You’ll recall that he switched to Powell after dumping his previously favored candidate Gen. Petraeus.
What a comedic disaster this race has become.

Kevin,
Stop talking about the POTUS race.
Kirk doesn’t support Trump.
Just move on.
- Norseman - Wednesday, Aug 10, 16 @ 3:35 pm:
It was not the Senator’s best performance. If I hadn’t already decided to vote against him because of his Rauner ties, this would have convinced me that it’s time to retire him.

These 2 are the best we’ve got?
- Walmart Manager - Wednesday, Aug 10, 16 @ 3:44 pm:
Don’t really see how it’s a gaff. Are we supposed to judge people’s character on one issue? When you vote for someone, it’s not like anyone you probably agree 100% with them, you just generally agree more than you do with the other candidate. This is typical slow news day stuff. It’s august, no one will care about this kind of goofy stuff in November.

===Are we supposed to judge people’s character on one issue?===
I’d agree except he said: “I can’t support someone who is for the Iran agreement.”
And he said it more than once.
So, if that’s a deal-breaker, then it’s time to find his third choice for a write-in.

These two are the US Senate candidates Illinois deserve, but not the candidates it needs right now

Colin Powell is exceptionally qualified in my book!

I agree, no one will care about this stuff. There will be more than enough new goofy stuff between now and November to focus on.

Could it be the not-so-funny ‘comic disaster’is actually Kirk?
- Fusion - Wednesday, Aug 10, 16 @ 4:07 pm:
Hey Kirk,
Write in Evan McMullin. As opposed to the other people you’ve mentioned, this one is actually running for president. Take care!
- Responsa - Wednesday, Aug 10, 16 @ 4:07 pm:
Most sentient watchers view this race as a run-down two ring circus.

The way campaigns are run in the current environment, where dragging your opponent through the mud is your primary tactic, I don’t question why we don’t have anyone better to run for office. What sane person would want such abuse? Even if you have a squeaky clean past, and few of us do, they’ll still make stuff up about you and repeat it endlessly. It’s like the old saying goes, “Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.”
- slow down - Wednesday, Aug 10, 16 @ 4:13 pm:
Kirk spent 3 months supporting Trump after Trump has already revealed he was a racist, xenophobic and misogynistic disaster. That he’s still unable to support the one person capable of defeating Trump, tells you a lot about the sincerity of Kirk’s tardy rejection of Trump.
- Ron Burgundy - Wednesday, Aug 10, 16 @ 4:14 pm:
You know, Senator, “I don’t know yet” is a perfectly fine choice.

It’s sort of interesting that they really didn’t do their research on this one and are basically looking for some kind of name drop on the legitimacy of their write in candidate.

This isn’t the only race that has become a comic disaster.
- IL Dem - Wednesday, Aug 10, 16 @ 4:24 pm:
Mark Kirk, a bro without a ho…roscope. I see a lot of nothing in his future.
- Wensicia - Wednesday, Aug 10, 16 @ 4:25 pm:
Kirk should’ve said write-in candidate without mentioning a name. It’s best now if he drops the subject completely.
- Timmeh - Wednesday, Aug 10, 16 @ 4:30 pm:
As write ins go, I’d stay away from anyone alive and real. Stick with fictional characters or dead presidents. They’re much harder to critique.
- titan - Wednesday, Aug 10, 16 @ 4:45 pm:
If he doesn’t file write-in declarations, no one is casting a vote for him
- Responsa - Wednesday, Aug 10, 16 @ 4:46 pm:
Timmeh, all that happens with non-official vanity/protest write-ins is that they take up time for the exhausted election judges and county clerks to verify and then disqualify at the end of the election day.

- Last Bull Moose - Wednesday, Aug 10, 16 @ 5:26 pm:
I think he is afraid to vote Libertarian or Green. Not sure how it might affect 2018.
- Clark - Wednesday, Aug 10, 16 @ 6:10 pm:
Oops!
I personally don’t care who politicians vote for. They should just keep that to themselves.
- Amalia - Wednesday, Aug 10, 16 @ 6:11 pm:
Colin Powell might be likely to endorse Hillary. then what?
- JackD - Wednesday, Aug 10, 16 @ 8:46 pm:
Hopefully, Kirk will have time after the election to take care of himself.
- Michael Westen - Wednesday, Aug 10, 16 @ 8:50 pm:
Maybe he can write in his father. Oh, wait. That’s not a good idea either.

Because politics has become so toxic a lot of people are not going to get involved. This is how we got here to this & POTUS race.

It’s time for Mark Kirk to bite the bullet and get behind Vermin Supreme.
