GOP union-themed mailer ties Dem to Rauner
Friday, Oct 14, 2016 - Posted by Rich Miller * You use what works in campaigns, so, apparently, the Republicans tying Gov. Bruce Rauner around Democratic Sen. Gary Forby’s neck is something they think will work…
* The mailer… There is just so much weirdness about that mailer on so many levels.

I’m sorry, apologies, is the indicia clearly marked from the ILGOP… as they take down Forby with ties to Rauner.
I’m only asking because I can’t see.
- jade me not - Friday, Oct 14, 16 @ 11:16 am:
So Forby is a Madigan lapdog AND Rauner’s lackey? That’s rich. This will backfire.
- The Captain - Friday, Oct 14, 16 @ 11:16 am:
Where’s the quote from the other day about how connecting Republican candidates to Trump won’t work and connecting Republican candidates to Rauner won’t work but connecting Democratic candidates to Madigan will produce results? In their defense, they never said connecting Democrats to Rauner wouldn’t work.
This really brightens my day.

Using Rauner against Dems, using the normally Dem issue of criminal justice reforms against republicans, the whole disgusting competing sex offender stuff coming from both sides….
At some point you have to realize that both parties are making an absolute sham out of the process, doing a major disservice to the voters. If you’re playing these games, you can no longer with a straight face say you’re in it to “serve.” The process is broken.
This makes the two awful choices for POTUS and their campaigns seem not so bad.
- wordslinger - Friday, Oct 14, 16 @ 11:23 am:
Huh. And all this time, Rauner and his devoted Bots have told us that the governor isn’t out to gut unions.
The Illinois State GOP knows otherwise.
- Oswego Willy - Friday, Oct 14, 16 @ 11:31 am:
If Labor, all of Labor, doesn’t understand how little Rauner and Raunerites feel they are just measly pawns in a long game to destroy all of them…
A mailer sent out by the Rauner ILGOP to discredit a Democrat in the “name of Labor” should be a sobering reminder.
Rauner wants Labor wages lower, no collective bargaining, and if pretending “they” are fighting Democrats to stop Rauner’s “wants” helps Rauner get closer to what this mailer warns…
… so be it.
- Phil King - Friday, Oct 14, 16 @ 11:37 am:
I don’t see anywhere on there that this came from IL GOP.
Looks like it’s directly from the Fowler campaign. If questioned on it, this can be an example of their “independence from Rauner.”
I think this works.

Desperate times calls for desperate mailers.
- Six Degrees of Separation - Friday, Oct 14, 16 @ 11:47 am:
A similar approach was also tried against Andy Skoog (D), to tie him to big-business sand mining interests and as a foe of the environment.
- Michelle Flaherty - Friday, Oct 14, 16 @ 11:49 am:
So the answer the GOP seeks is to have all the Rauner appointees voted down?
- walker - Friday, Oct 14, 16 @ 11:49 am:
What next? An attack by the DPI on Mike MacAuliffe for being a Madigan lapdog?
These House races have produced dustbins of trash for decades. It’s a wonder anyone reads them. But they seem to impact voting behavior.

===An attack by the DPI on Mike MacAuliffe for being a Madigan lapdog?===
Those types of mailings have been done in the past, I believe… maybe not specific to McAuliffe…

===What next? An attack by the DPI on Mike MacAuliffe for being a Madigan lapdog?===
Maybe. The Dems did just exactly that to Skip Saviano.
- SOIL M - Friday, Oct 14, 16 @ 12:14 pm:
Threw that one away without reading it just as i did with 2 more ridiculous mailers that were in todays mail. At this point none of them, from either party or any candidate are worth the time you waste to read them. Most people put them straight in the trash without a thought as to what is in them.
- Anon - Friday, Oct 14, 16 @ 1:17 pm:
1.) There’s a union bug on that mailer. Attention to detail there is pretty great.
2.) This could have the a backfire effect of actually increasing union efforts in support of turn out, etc.
- Ahoy! - Friday, Oct 14, 16 @ 1:18 pm:
Rauner and the Senate Democrats he controls.
- Team Sleep - Friday, Oct 14, 16 @ 1:19 pm:
The mailer is strange but the point about the board and commission appointments is interesting. I have tracked enough of them that it is very rare for the Senate to deny one of Rauner’s appointments.
