Manar added to enemies list

Friday, Dec 16, 2016 - Posted by Rich Miller

* The day after Bernie Schoenburg published an interview of the potential gubernatorial candidate, the Illinois Republican Party has added him to its BossMadigan.com hit list. Not unexpected

“Andy Manar, Natalie Manley and Anna Moeller have taken over a million dollars from Mike Madigan, and in exchange they have backed his tax-hiking, reform-free Chicago agenda. Manar was one of the chief architects of Madigan’s 67% income tax hike, whipping the votes needed to crush Illinois taxpayers. Likewise, Manley and Moeller have supported Madigan at every turn, repeatedly voting him as Speaker and rubber-stamping his unbalanced budgets. It’s time for Manar, Manley and Moeller to finally show some independence from Madigan.” – Illinois Republican Party Spokesman Steven Yaffe

Andy Manar
Andy Manar has always aspired to be a career politician like Mike Madigan. Since Manar was 21 years old, he’s held public office, worked government jobs, and received political paychecks from Chicago politicians, often all at the same time. Andy Manar has done pretty well for himself – he’s personally made hundreds of thousands of dollars off Illinois taxpayers.

Andy Manar has held several top positions working for Chicago politicians. For years, Manar served as the Senate Democrats’ Director of Policy and Budget, pushing unbalanced budgets, pension holidays, and higher debt. Later, Manar also served as Senate President John Cullerton’s Chief-of-Staff. During his time with Cullerton, Manar was one of the chief architects of Mike Madigan’s 67% income tax hike in 2011, whipping votes and pressuring lawmakers to crush taxpayers.

Andy Manar was already doing Mike Madigan’s bidding even before he entered the General Assembly. After the 2010 census, Manar was the mastermind behind the redistricting of legislative maps, increasing Mike Madigan’s stranglehold over state government.

Just this month, Andy Manar betrayed the students in his district by voting to bail out Chicago Public Schools with $215 million in taxpayer money. Before the election, Manar voted against the bailout, but now he’s sold out to Mike Madigan. Andy Manar proved that he cares more about Madigan’s Chicago agenda than the families in his own district.

Mike Madigan admires Andy Manar so much that Madigan has showered Manar with over $450,000 in campaign cash for all of the damage he’s done. It’s time for Andy Manar to stand up to Mike Madigan and start working for Illinois taxpayers.

And the cool part about working for Rauner’s campaign rather than the state he’s supposed to run is that he cares about the campaign and the vendor will actually get paid for the upgrade /fact

==he’s personally made hundreds of thousands of dollars off Illinois taxpayers==

In the era of Rauner and Trump, with Kennedy and Pritzker also sniffing around a primary, this hit is positively quaint.

  4. - Michelle Flaherty - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:06 am:

So, since Rauner signed the stopgap budget deal, shouldn’t Governor Rauner be on the BossMadigan.com list?

  5. - Roadiepig - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:09 am:

When you have money to burn, the political campaign season never ends. I agree with the commentor from yesterday who said this is inside politics though- it’s doubtful anyone who’s not a political junkie even knows about “enemies list” and BossMadigan.com, and will only take notice if they are effected directly between now and the mid-terms . If even then.

  6. - illini97 - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:11 am:

Yes, Governor Rauner. You make half a million per day and have no political experience but are acting as the Executive branch.

Manar has gained political experience his entire working life and has made “hundreds of thousands”

Tell me again how Manar is negative and Rauner is positive?

I’ll take the guy who knows how politics works and isn’t a vulture capitalist every day of the week, thanks.

  7. - Arsenal - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:13 am:

==will only take notice if they are effected directly between now and the mid-terms==

These things only have an intended audience of one, though- the target.

  8. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:14 am:

We will reach a point when it will be more difficult to explain why you may or may not be on “BossMadigan.Com”

Dems may want to make sure they aren’t seen too cozy to Rauner. Rauner is also upside down on his numbers too, even though Dems have no platform to pronounce that fact…

  9. - Aldyth - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:15 am:

Do you have to be a legislator or politician to be on the Rauner’s enemies list? A lot of us might like to sign up.

  10. - Arsenal - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:18 am:

==Dems may want to make sure they aren’t seen too cozy to Rauner.==

It certainly appears to be a drag in the primary, though we have a limited data set so far.

  11. - Deft Wing - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:19 am:

Serious inquiry. Has Manar ever held a private sector job? If he has, I’d like to know more about it.

Because it’s been my experience that elected officials who have never sweated out collections in order to make a payroll, never dealt with any of the mountains of regulations as to employee relations, and/or never been involved in a competitive work environment … tend to be oblivious to small business, and the real work environment outside of the public sector protective bubble. These “public only” electeds also seem anxious to pile on more taxes and regulations, disconnected to their real effect.

  12. - RNUG - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:21 am:

Last big politician I remember having an enemies list was Nixon … and that didn’t end well.

    OW…I agree, but if I’m a Democrat, I wear the BossMadigan.com designation as a Badge of Courage…

  14. - Tough Guy - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:25 am:

Wouldn’t it be easier if they listed individuals they felt were not eligible for “BossMadigan.Com” and just assume everyone else is under Madigan’s control? Can’t wait until they start listing Democrat primary voters.

  15. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:26 am:

    ===I agree, but if I’m a Democrat, I wear the BossMadigan.com designation as a Badge of Courage…===

That is really going to be one of those “that remains to be seen” kinda things.

If I were a Dem, by June, if I’m not in the “BossMadigan.Com” site… what have I been doing not to be there?

Rauner is coming after everyone. To not be singled out might be seen as… bad(?)

Updating the Emerson/Thoreau exchange when Thoreau was jailed:

Emerson: “Henry, why are you on BossMadigan.com?”

==he’s personally made hundreds of thousands of dollars off Illinois taxpayers==

    Scandalous.

Speaking of making money off of Illinois taxpayers, whatever happened to that GTCR guy?

I hear he made a boatload off state pension business.

Plus, there was that hinky Cook County/Medicaid score of the company he was part owner and on the board. Contributions to Stroger and Madigan, and the money rolled in.

Shouldn’t he be on the Enemies List, too?

  18. - Michelle Flaherty - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:33 am:

At this rate they’ll run out of elected officials and have to target individual voters by May.

  19. - Arsenal - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:33 am:

Being too close to Rauner will be a big problem in every Democratic Primary.

Being too close to Madigan will be a problem in many Democratic Primaries.

But there’s a lot of space between those two.

  20. - Tommydanger - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:35 am:

=he’s personally made hundreds of thousands of dollars off Illinois taxpayers==

Anybody who has been a legislator for 4 years or more qualifies for this designation. Never has the truth been so misleading.

Amateur hour, childish, misleading and more befitting of a college political campaign than the basis for legitimate disagreements.

  21. - Arsenal - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:35 am:

Blah, second sentence should read “..in many General Elections.”

  22. - JoeMaddon - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:39 am:

==he’s personally made hundreds of thousands of dollars off Illinois taxpayers==

Or, in normal language, Andy Manar has experience working in government.

Enemies list defined: folks who refused Rauner’s payola.

  25. - thunderspirit - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:46 am:

Just presume everyone with a D after their name (and not named Ken Dunkin) is on the BossMadigan.com hit list. That makes things much, much easier.

  26. - Finally Out - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:46 am:

    Willy, couldn’t agree more.

“If I were a Dem, by June, if I’m not in the “BossMadigan.Com” site… what have I been doing not to be there?”

  27. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 11:51 am:

    - Finally Out -

Thanks. It’s the over-saturation of names that will rely on the millions to make this work.

Otherwise, your (A Dem) name not on the list, “why not?”

  28. - Big Muddy - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 12:09 pm:

Manar is going nowhere. Why? He has to choose keeping his senate seat or running state-wide and will choose to stay in the senate. He isn’t ready for state-wide…yet. Plus, how could Cullerton give up his lapdog so easily?

  29. - burbanite - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 12:22 pm:

Wonder what Dem isn’t going to be on that list. Just a matter of time.

  30. - Precinct Captain - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 12:24 pm:

The constant press releases are dumb as heck, but where is the Democratic messaging on Rauner Republicans? Nowhere.

  31. - Deft Wing - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 12:33 pm:

Before LaShawn Ford’s comments about term limits on leadership and before Scott Drury even thought about challenging Madigan for Speaker, there was this public utterance by Anna Moeller:

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/elgin-courier-news/news/ct-ecn-moeller-quote-st-0806-20150810-story.html

There’s far more of this too, most importantly occurring at voters’ door-steps.

Can same the same about Durkin, Radogno, and a whole bunch of Republican GA members. Not to mention every cop and firefighter in Illinois. And what about all those active duty military folks…spunging of the taxpayers, too?

  35. - jerry 101 - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 1:40 pm:

They should just go ahead and add everyone who’s pulled a Democratic primary ballot over the past 8 years.

=Because it’s been my experience that elected officials who have never sweated out collections in order to make a payroll, never dealt with any of the mountains of regulations as to employee relations, and/or never been involved in a competitive work environment =

Yeah, because public money is flowing like rivers of gold..back under your bridge.

  38. - zatoichi - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 2:28 pm:

Not much of an arguement when you can simply change the Dem names to any Republican who got money from Rauner/committees he controls/funds, swap Rauner for Madigan, and make the same claims.

  39. - Arsenal - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 2:40 pm:

==Manar is going nowhere. Why? He has to choose keeping his senate seat or running state-wide and will choose to stay in the senate.==

Your argument that Manar isn’t going to run for anything else is that Manar isn’t going to run for anything else.

Too late to get Bruce a cabinet appointment in the incoming adminstration? U.S. Trade Representative? Secretary of Labor, sadly, is taken /s

OW does make an interesting point…..EVERY Dem is going to be put on that list, if your not on it by May 31 what did you do for the Gov to avoid it?
Quick scan -Drury not one of the Suburban Legislators on the Bossmadigan list. But Elaine Nekritz is?

  43. - Arsenal - Friday, Dec 16, 16 @ 3:44 pm:

==Because it’s been my experience that elected officials who have never sweated out collections in order to make a payroll, never dealt with any of the mountains of regulations as to employee relations, and/or never been involved in a competitive work environment==

Your experience, then, is too limited. Working for the government is legitimate work experience just like any other. And were this any other profession, considering someone with experience in that profession for a senior management position would be the norm.
