Daiber to announce for governor
Friday, Feb 10, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller * This one’s coming out of nowhere…
He’s the Regional Superintendent out of Madison County. And he’s a Democrat. His website is still a placeholder. I’m actually scheduled to be in Edwardsville that day, so maybe I’ll go to the event.

Well…good luck to him, I suppose. If his signs say “Dr. Bob”, that’d be fun.
- Archiesmom - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 11:41 am:
First, he needs to hire a proofreader.
- Anonymous - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 11:41 am:
If he serves at the pleasure of the gov - Uh oh?
- Stark - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 11:42 am:
“Annoucement” I wonder if his campaign already regrets a single letter. /s
- Ron Burgundy - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 11:42 am:
Looks like the hopes for a smooth Democratic primary that’s not a great big free-for-all are disappearing by the day…
- ILPundit - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 11:42 am:
You have to assume that Rauner is ultimately going to finance a D candidate to try to choose his opponent. Perhaps this is that guy.
- Chicago Cynic - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 11:43 am:
Who?
- Anonymous - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 11:44 am:
It is very auspicious that he announces on the day we celebrate the birth of our Greatest Illinois Governor - Abraham Lincoln
- Madison Co Labor - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 11:44 am:
A plant from Pritzger to cut into Manar downstate. But that may be giving Pritzger too much credit. Bob has no chance.
- DownState - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 11:44 am:
He is elected just like the gov.
- JB13 - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 11:45 am:
– You have to assume that Rauner is ultimately going to finance a D candidate to try to choose his opponent –
Well, it kind of is a time-honored tactic in this state, right? Maybe he can find another Democrat named Chris Kennedy or JB Pritzker.

==Looks like the hopes for a smooth Democratic primary that’s not a great big free-for-all are disappearing by the day…==
One might be in danger of reading too much into a longshot candidacy.

Or, we’re at three over a year out, and it looks like plenty more to come. Could double or triple easily. You’re right this guy has no chance, though.

==Or, we’re at three over a year out, and it looks like plenty more to come.==
Oh, it’ll be crowded, no doubt. It oughtta be. Rauner is vulnerable and it’s a good gig. But “crowded” doesn’t mean “free for all”. And of the 3 in so far, let’s be real, 2 are…going to be content with something besides the Governor’s Office.
- anon 123 - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 12:00 pm:
With the attack on education in this state may be a welcome change.
- Highland, IL - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 12:03 pm:
Daiber ran two or three time against Ron Stephens for State Representative. I believe he has served on his village council, a county board member and township position - Trifecta.
- Anon - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 12:19 pm:
At this rate,it looks like the GOP running
in 2016- a very crowded field. Maybe one will emerge… please.
- Mad dog - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 12:20 pm:
Dr.who ??
- Blue dog dem - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 12:25 pm:
I just found the fourth person.
- CLJ - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 12:25 pm:
Doesn’t everyone know that you drop the “n” after “ou” when the word ends in “ment” in that part of the state.
- Precinct Captain - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 12:31 pm:
He actually filed with SBOE the same day as Kennedy. I remember seeing it on the site.
- DuPage Bard - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 1:01 pm:
So he left the “n” out of his announcement. Any chance he also leaves the “ing” out his speeches?
- NIU Grad - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 1:04 pm:
Go big or go home.
- Oswego Willy - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 1:05 pm:
Here is EXACTLY how I’m approaching this announcement;
When he gets the signatures required to get on the ballot, and is still on the ballot after the inevitable challenges a candidacy like this almost automatically draws…
… then I’ll see this specific run as genuine.
We’ll see.
He’s announced. Ok.
- OneMan - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 1:06 pm:
If you search Dr. Bob Daiber he is the 8th entry and it’s an oral history of the 1985 school reforms.
- Anon - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 1:18 pm:
Dr. Bob Daibler of Madeupville?
“Illinois has had two long years of a governor who drops his “g”’s. That’s why I’m going to start droppig my “n”’s.”
- 47th Ward - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 1:20 pm:
Is he a multi-millionaire?
- HumpDay - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 1:43 pm:
Bout time we have a candidate from downstate/southern Illinois. He’s a huge union backed guy (was the state NEA pres I think) who I bet is going to surprise some people. Remember St. Clair and Madison and other downstaters elected Blago. Let the Chicago million/billionaires beat each other up and split the vote. He runs the rest of the state and wins. He’s a farmer and an educator. When he puts on Carhart I bet it’s not for a photo op like Rauner.
- Anonymous - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 1:43 pm:
“And of the 3 in so far, let’s be real, 2 are…going to be content with something besides the Governor’s Office.”
Which 2 Arsenal?
- lake county democrat - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 1:48 pm:
HumpDay you frighten me! A split vote is Pat Quinn’s best chance. Pat Quinn is Rauner’s best chance.
- stlboy - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 1:48 pm:
Probably raise funds and then drop out and use it on a real campaign for something.
- Huh? - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 1:55 pm:
So we are supposed to elect a teacher who is spelling challenged? Sure, yeah right. Ever hear of spellcheck?
More fodder for the battle field. The Democratic have to winnow the herd long before the primary arrives. 1.4% is going to laugh himself silly as the Dems bloody themselves ahead of the primary.
- Arsenal - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 2:12 pm:
==Remember St. Clair and Madison and other downstaters elected Blago.==
Oh…gee.
==Which 2 Arsenal?==
Pawar and Daiber. I like Pawar a lot, but he’s not giving us much reason to take his run seriously.
- HumpDay - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 2:14 pm:
Just talked to some Chicago-land insiders that say this guy is the real deal and will have support even in the city. Strong no nonsense leader ready to reach across the aisle. Either way the average Illinoisan now has a voice that isn’t rich or famous.
- Oswego Willy - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 2:16 pm:
===Just talked to some Chicago-land insiders that say… ===
Well, that’s reassuring.
I’ll take this news and recalibrate accordingly, lol
- illini - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 2:19 pm:
Just have to wonder if this is not a prelude to gain a higher electoral profile in the even that Sen. Bill Haine should decide to retire at the end of his term.
- Echo The Bunnyman - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 2:24 pm:
Illini… I bet your on it… Furthermore… The ROE’s may not be long for this state with the mess we are in.. is this his plan B to get name recognition for another office before this gov does what the one before wasn’t successful in getting rid of them for good?
- Echo The Bunnyman - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 2:27 pm:
Illini… maybe you are correct… get name recognition for something higher? Maybe when this gov realizes the previous one was not able to eliminate them for good… He has some ammo to now! Then he can run for something else…
- Echo The Bunnyman - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 2:47 pm:
Oops. Too quick. Sorry for the double!
- Northsider - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 3:18 pm:
I understand that an assistant to the regional manager in the Office of Paper Management is going to announce, soon, too.
- Anonymous - Friday, Feb 10, 17 @ 3:54 pm:
Can he write a $100 million check?
