*** UPDATED x1 *** Chance the Rapper press conference: “Gov. Rauner, do your job”

Monday, Mar 6, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller

* OK, it’s over now. Click here for an archived video. Or click here for the Facebook version. And here’s a quickie roundup of what went on…

*** UPDATE ***  From his statement: “Gov. Rauner broke his promise to Chicago’s children a few months ago as the result of an admitted emotional reaction when he vetoed the $215 million, funding the Chicago schools were counting on to close out the school year.”

“Our kids should not be held hostage because of political positioning,” the rapper said. “If the governor does not act, CPS will be forced to end school 13 days early, which means over 380,000 kids will not have adult supervised activities in June, and could possibly be put in harm’s way,” he said.

“While I’m frustrated and disappointed in the governor’s inaction, that will not stop me from continuing to do all I can to support Chicago’s most valuable resource, it’s children.” He then announced the million dollar donation and asked others to do the same.

“I’m going to throw one more in,” he said after thanking several people. “Gov. Rauner, do your job.”

Who is coaching him to do this? Mayor?

  2. - Reality Check - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:04 pm:

@Rocky because he couldn’t do it himself? Because … ?

  3. - Just Me - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:04 pm:

So a 23 year old celebrity is now helping to dictate state policy. Great. Doing a heck of a job there, (Steve) Brownie.

  4. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:09 pm:

    - Just Me -

This all started with Chance because…

    … of a Tweet.

    A governor’s tweet.

“So a 23 year old celebrity is now helping to dictate state policy. Great. Doing a heck of a job there, (Lance) Trovie.”

    Better.

    Don’t tweet @ anyone.

    Ever.

  5. - JohnnyPyleDriver - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:09 pm:

Chance has been community focused his entire short career. He has been an anti-violence advocate for several years. He puts out music largely on his own. Dude is legitimate and seems like a genuinely good guy

  6. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:11 pm:

I wouldn’t go “after” Chance as a strategy to silence him.

    Just sayin…

    Money > Mouth

to the tune of $1 million.

==So a 23 year old celebrity is now helping to dictate state policy. Great. Doing a heck of a job there, (Steve) Brownie.==

…it was the Governor’s office who kept building up the meeting…

    “Governor Rauner, do your job!”

    love it!

  11. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:21 pm:

“Governor, Lance and ‘ck’ will set up a Facebook Live to offset Chance. This will all blow over” - said no one ever.

    Huge Rauner Communications Shop error.

    Global even.

I’m actually embarrassed for the Rauner Press Shop. This has backfired… because of a Tweet, lol

Rauner has no one to blame… but himself and an inept Press Shop and Press Crew

  12. - Lucky Pierre - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:24 pm:

Not a “Chance” he would tell the Speaker or Senate President to do their job too

    Springfield is not a monarchy

  13. - JS Mill - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:26 pm:

Wow, Chance just dropped $1 million on CPS??!!

    23 years old.

That is putting your money where your mouth is.

  14. - JS Mill - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:27 pm:

@LP- you, like the governor, are embarrassing yourself.

Rauner is the one that made a big deal of this and tried to use Chance. Not the others.

  15. - Ok - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:28 pm:

    Do your job Rauner!

  16. - Albany Park Patriot - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:28 pm:

People can mock Chance at their peril. He’s connected to the community in ways that Rauner never will be.

  17. - West Sider - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:29 pm:

OW- With enormous respect, I have to disagree, to the extent that the governor didn’t fail at tactics and message- he failed on vision and character.

  18. - GA Watcher - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:29 pm:

Maybe the Governor’s staff can include some language in their TIF transfer proposal which reduces the amount of the transfer by the amount Chance and the corporate donors raise. /s

    ===Springfield is not a monarchy===

    “King Madigan”

Please, - Lucky Pierre - you’re not a babe in the woods. If anything you’re a Raunerbot whose programming allows you to refute your own comments.

    Chance is going after Rauner.

    Never should’ve tweeted.

  20. - 47th Ward - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:30 pm:

    ===Springfield is not a monarchy===

Lol. The Governor asked for Chance’s opinion, and Chance gave it to him, good and hard.

LP, we know you’re doing your job. Can you ask the Governor when he’s going to start doing his?

  21. - Rich Miller - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:30 pm:

===Who is coaching him to do this?===

Why do you assume that? Seems pretty patronizing to me.

  22. - East Central Illinois - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:30 pm:

Chance is not afraid to put his money where his mouth is. $1M to CPS . . . uhm your turn ‘Brucie the Governor’!!! What’s in YOUR wallet??

  23. - KQ - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:31 pm:

Chance comes from good parents who have raised him well. He’s not being told or directed … he is doing this because he cares about this city and its future. No one told him to buy out a movie theater last week and give away the tickets either. He’s an independent thinker, which is why he’s done so well for himself.

  24. - Deft Wing - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:32 pm:

Rauner did try and capitalize on Chance, and it has backfired.

Rauner is no Trump when it comes to using Twitter effectively.

  25. - Bobby Catalpa - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:33 pm:

    Rauner should match Chance’s donation.

    At the very least.

  26. - FormerParatrooper - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:33 pm:

Maybe we need few more Chances in society. 1 mil from his ticket sales? I don’t listen to his music but I will buy a ticket to support the guy.

His hand with a tight grip on his millions and the ILGOP.

  29. - Henry Francis - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:35 pm:

So what’s the play here for the Guv? Have ck issue a response that states they have a picture showing Chance and Madigan were once in the same room, ergo . . . Or a press release announcing the Guv is donating $1,000,001 to CPS?

  30. - wndycty - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:35 pm:

===Who is coaching him to do this?===

Chance is a 23 year old independent artist who could sign with any label he wants, but he chooses not to, yet he put himself in a position to donate $1 millions (with corporate backing) to CPS, it would appear he doesn’t need much coaching.

  31. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:36 pm:

    I’m not phased…

The Rauner Press Show, tone deaf as they are might tweet something like…

“Bruce and Diana have donated millions…”

… when the issue is state funding and appropriations for schools to function.

Chance kinda painted the Givernir in the corner.

How can Rauner talk about his donations with that Veto also hanging out there… oh, and Chance saying, again… “Do your job.”

Chance was smart. Smart play today.

  32. - Free Set of Steak Knives - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:37 pm:

Chance the Rapper is a senior citizen compared to the Little Rock Nine.

  33. - East Central Illinois - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:40 pm:

The “Do Your Job” comment, awesome. That should be the battle cry for everyone during this political fiasco. Politicians are the ONLY people that get this free pass - - anyone else in any other type of job would have been fired long ago for not “doing their job”.

  34. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:40 pm:

    The Chance statement…

Arguably.., That was “seen and heard” by more people today …than any and all… of the Dem messaging in the past 2 years(?)

    Maybe(?)

  35. - Rich Miller - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:43 pm:

=== Doing a heck of a job there, (Steve) Brownie. ===

    lol

Brown didn’t tweet congrats to Chance and then agree to a sitdown. Y’all just see conspiracies everywhere, don’t you? A rapper is now controlled by Madigan. Sheesh.

  36. - The Dude Abides - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:43 pm:

I think it’s safe to say that Chance isn’t among the 32% who said they’d vote for Rauner again.
I have to give Chance kudos for making his generous contribution to CPS.

  37. - Yeah - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:45 pm:

If the job is to tank bond ratings and balloon the debt then crew Rauner is doing a good job.

  38. - Flynn's mom - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:45 pm:

    @Chance the Rapper…Thank you.

    @ Gov. Rauner….What Chance said.

  39. - Bobby Catalpa - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:47 pm:

Rauner is very similar to Trump: they both think everyone is dumber than they are. That no one can possbily “understand” the issues in a different way or a better way.

This is Rauner for past two years.

  40. - wndycty - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:47 pm:

===Or a press release announcing the Guv is donating $1,000,001 to CPS?===

Why would he do that? Its not like he has a child he is trying to clout into Walter Payton anymore. ;)

  41. - jimk849 - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:50 pm:

Do your job. That just about-raps- it up.

  42. - Sam Weinberg - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:52 pm:

I am willing to wager that everyone here claiming that Chance was “put up” to this knows nothing of his music, how active he is in his community, and just how whip smart he is. I’ve been listening to hip hop since it (and I) came of age in the 80s, and he’s a remarkable, and singularly talented, kid.

It’s truly incredible that Team Rauner thought he was going to give them a fuzzy photo op.

  43. - Norseman - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:52 pm:

Raunerbots going into disrespect mode. As has been said by many. Chance is putting his money where his mouth is. Kudos to him.

  44. - Anon - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 2:55 pm:

    ===Don’t tweet @ anyone.===

OW, I don’t know about that rule. It’s probably okay for the Governor’s office to tweet congratulatory messages at high profile residents, citizens, or folks just from the state. However — in most cases for most governors I would imagine that their public statements would line up a little more closely with the reality.

If you major issue is school funding — the governor’s of most states at least have policy and successes that look like they’re trying.

Rauner wants to say he cares about Chicago or CPS and then his administrations actions suggest differently.

He agrees to a meeting with a person, and expects them to be ignorant or to buy whatever line of BS he’s selling — maybe it’s been a while since he’s been in a room with someone that isn’t inclined to buy his BS?

You could drop several million against a legislator — what’s he going to do to Chance?

To this I would only add: For the last two years, in the eyes of the public and his peers, Chance has succeeded at every professional endeavor he has pursued.

The same cannot be said for Bruce Rauner.

    HBO - “Dad’s Home State” - Season 3, Episode 14

Bruce practices his video speech to State Employees, practices tongue twisters in a mirror. Diana makes a list of things she’s like to say with her new Twitter, picks out which staged puctures look most “natural”. Diana’s State Employee blocks award-winning musician on Instagram for Bruce and Diana. Lance makes up new Twitter handles to try to contact award-winning musician, “ck” overheats the Rauner Word Jumble trying to respond to award-winning musician’s Instagram. Goldberg writes a letter to Advil. Comedy, 73 minutes.

  48. - LarryM - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:01 pm:

I admire Chance’s passion. His willingness to address these issues publically is also admirable.

It would be great if the rapper could identify where the funding should come from and specifically identify how will throwing more money at CPS improve those abysmal graduation rates or its significant and historic funding shortages. Or perhaps should we just accept and believe the constant drumbeat from the partisans hacks who prefer to indicate that it’s all Rauners fault in just re last 2.2 years?

My point was that Chance the Rapper is offering alternatives, but the House Democrats (led by the Speaker) have done nothing. I’d like to see the House Democrats take a little initiative and offer up some ideas too.

Absolutely! But when they respond, just pretend not to see it.

===”I’m donating $1M to CPS” foundation from ticket sales===

I certainly admire this gentleman’s passion and generosity. I’m not sure what this quote means though.

Is he pledging this sum based on upcoming ticket sales? Or am I missing something and he’s donating it outright?

Either way it’s generous. Just wondering if it’s something that needs to be fulfilled later.

  59. - Rod - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:08 pm:

Chance the rapper clearly was not coached or elsewise he would have responded differently to the Governor’s office memo on using TIFs when that was asked of him at the PR conference. He had no understanding of what team Rauner was proposing and how that would only get CPS deeper in fiscal trouble.

Chance had zero plan to fund CPS other than give them the $215 million. He had no understanding of the fact that a retired CPS teacher with 30 years of service is getting about $68,000 a year which is well above the medium household income in Aburn Greshman where Chance held the meeting. ( That number for his community’s medium household income is $34,422) I doubt that he understands that Mr. Claypool makes $250,000 a year or really anything about CPS finances. Chance needed some serious coaching from someone like Ralph Martire.

  60. - Rich Miller - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:10 pm:

=== That was “seen and heard” by more people today===

134K viewers on Periscope so far. The guy has 3.8 million Instagram followers and 3.4 million Twitter followers.

Gov. Rauner, by comparison, has 2,300 Instagram and 18.1K Twitter followers.

  61. - JohnnyPyleDriver - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:10 pm:

A guy, it may be what you theorized, or it may be a simple nod to the fact that he isn’t signed by a record label. He and his fans like to tout that.

  62. - 47th Ward - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:12 pm:

===Just wondering if it’s something that needs to be fulfilled later.===

I’m sure he and his accountant have structured this gift to maximize its value as a charitable tax deduction, most likely to minimize current and future tax liability. Actually, I’m pretty sure that’s part of the advice Rauner gave him on Friday. I mean, the Governor would know how to get the most value out of a donation to CPS, amiright?

  63. - Arsenal - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:15 pm:

You typed a lot of pretty words, heck, you even have words that needed capital letters, you even had numbers.

Chance told 134,000 viewers on Periscope…

The Ooda Loopers can’t skirt Chance’s reach.

    “Do your job”

    Globally.

So True. i believe the Governor asked the same question last
    week.

Shouldn’t The Mayor, CPS, CTU or just maybe even Speaker Madigan and President Cullerton and the minority leaders??

I do realize this q is way off script based one most of the routine comwmtors but does seem like a reasonable question that deserves an legitimate answer…some year.

  67. - LarryM - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:18 pm:

==Chance needed some serious coaching from someone like Ralph Martire.==

Nah, he nailed what he was trying to do. You don’t need to be able to break complex policy down into molecular detail to tell people that there’s a problem.

  71. - Onfire - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:21 pm:

Thank you Chance the Rapper for making a bold statement. The Governor is hellbent on ruining our public schools universities and running our state into the ground. He doesn’t care about the consequences. You (Chance the Rapper) stepped up to the plate. You talked the talk and walked the walk at least you are trying to make a difference. We should all be ashamed of ourselves for allowing this Governor to destroy our state a little more every single day. Do your job Governor.

  72. - Norseman - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:25 pm:

  73. - chicagotodownstate - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:25 pm:

I can’t wait for all the clever twitter hashtags, mine is “Hey Governor, fund our schools #dontleaveittoChance”

  74. - Rod - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:26 pm:

Rich Chance has been a media figure here for several years and has a big following. We even know his ex had to file for child support until he settled in January, he is a big deal here particularly in Auburn Greshman.

Why would it be a surprise he got so many hits? What would have been a surprise would have been if he could have informed his own community of what was going on with CPS finances even in a simple way. All he said was give them the money, I did. On that level clearly Rauner has given a lot more to charter schools for what that is worth.

  75. - Anon - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:27 pm:

===Mr. Claypool makes $250,000 a year or really anything about CPS finances.===

How big is the organization he’s running?

  76. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:29 pm:

    - Rod -

If you go after Chance personally, you’re going to risk making this far worse than it already is for Rauner.

You eat it, you own it, Rauner needs to fix it.

Your comments and suggestion only strengthen the negatives of Rauner.

  77. - VanillaMan - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:31 pm:

The whole thing went from ridiculous to Hindenburg, courtesy of a governor who believed that leather vests, Harleys and Stag would impress his grandkids.

Rauner is a governor. When’s he going to grow up and stop acting like a victim? Dude’s cringeworthy.

  78. - Arsenal - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:31 pm:

== What would have been a surprise would have been if he could have informed his own community of what was going on with CPS finances even in a simple way.==

    He did.

I mean, sure, he didn’t adopt your personal policy preferences. But that’s not a Him problem.

  79. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:33 pm:

===On that level clearly Rauner has given a lot more to charter schools for what that is worth.===

    LOL!

You’re falling into the Chance trap.

“Yeah, and Rauner also personally denied $215 million to Chicago Schools. Governor, do your job!”

    - Rod -

Your failures are the traps Chance set up.

    Good to see these sprung.

Either way it’s generous. Just wondering if it’s something that needs to be fulfilled later.

Perhaps. However I suspect it is just his way of highlighting/reinforcing his business model, which is atypical for the music industry. He has resisted signing with a label and makes all of his money solely from concert ticket sales and merchandising. He gives away his music for free, you can’t buy it. I’m sure it will not go unnoticed in the music industry that a guy who gives away his music for free still has enough in the bank to make a million dollar donation to his local school system.

I suspect that is the subtext but I can’t say for sure.

So In summary for the new kids around: CPS’s long standing failure to achieve a graduation rate slightly above what would be considered an F on most grade scales; their failure to create budget within their means which is not the verge of bond default and it’s certainly not at all Madigan’s last 40+ years or Chicago’s leadership the last 50 years; Nope!!! It all boils down to the one new guy on scene for only two years who has refused to just cut the check as all his those before him have done. We still can’t define how more money will actually improve the poor education and terrible graduations rate but still the hacks say just cut another check.

So repeat after me and all the other commenters; “it’s all Rauners Fault in just the last 2.2 years.”.

  84. - Piece of Work - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:39 pm:

Anybody bother to ask Chance The Rap Man who he voted for governor 2 years ago?

  85. - sal-says - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:39 pm:

Having previously complained about electing billionaire businessmen with zero elected experience.

My Vote for governor? I’d take 23 year old Chance over incompetent raunner in a heartbeat.

  86. - ChicagoDem - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:43 pm:

Gov. Rauner, Rep. Madigan and other state Reps., Sen. Cullerton, and other State Representatives (unlike the Gov. Rauner who is not collecting a salary!!!)…do your jobs!!!

  87. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:43 pm:

===Anybody bother to ask Chance The Rap Man who he voted for governor 2 years ago?===

    “Do your job”

Keep trying to go after him. Not wise.

Rauner is governor now and a person with millions following him on Instagram and Twitter and watching on Periscope and “Access Hollywood”, and AP, UPI, and globally heard Chance say…

    “Do your job”

    That’s the ball game.

I wouldn’t go after him, I’d try to get past this.

  88. - @MisterJayEm - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:45 pm:

“he is a big deal here particularly in Auburn Greshman.”

    You mean Auburn Gresham?

I don’t know where you are or what you were trying to pretend to be — but you blew it.

    – MrJM

  89. - PoW - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:46 pm:

Let us know when that check is presented and cashed. When is it happening Willy?

I think I can picture Willy lip syncing the latest Chance hit, dancing in his living room!!

  90. - Anon - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:47 pm:

Gov. Rauner, Rep. Madigan, Sen. Cullerton, and all other State Reps. and Senators (who unlike Gov. Rauners who are collecting a salary)…Do your jobs.!!!

  91. - Chicago Cynic - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:48 pm:

This is all a lot of hooey ginned up by King Madigan and the rapper he controls ;-)

  92. - My New Handle - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:49 pm:

“Sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes, well, it eats you.”
    I’d say Rauner got eaten.

  93. - Clark - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:50 pm:

I think it’s worth mentioning that SocialWorks, an NPO formed by Chance, will be donating 10k for every 100k donated.

All politics aside, I hope this will be a start to proper funding solutions and better management of funds.

  94. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:50 pm:

===Let us know when that check is presented and cashed. When is it happening Willy?===

I don’t work for Chance. You let us all know.

    “Do your job”

===I think I can picture Willy lip syncing the latest Chance hit, dancing in his living room!!===

    “Do your job”

    It’s catchy.

    That’s just being shared… Everywhere

  95. - T Sowell - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:52 pm:

I applaud Chance for his generosity; but from a purely tactical viewpoint, I am not sure Rauner has ever counted on much support among young urban rap fans.

  96. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 3:53 pm:

===who unlike Gov. Rauners who are collecting a salary===

Rauner actually is collecting a salary, he then turns it back over.

Rauner isn’t working for Illinois for free…

…Rauner is destroying Illinois for a chance at Right to Work.

    Please keep up.

  97. - walker - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 4:03 pm:

Rauner met more than his match, on communicating to the public.

  98. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 4:05 pm:

===Let us all know when that check clears==

    Why, you plan to match?

  99. - Anon - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 4:12 pm:

OW…I am keeping up…what I meant is that Gov. Rauner is not “pocketing” his salary…like all other state elected officials I mentioned!!! Actually, “Right to Work” is not such a foreign idea..IF that’s what Gov. Rauner is going after??

  100. - Agricola - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 4:15 pm:

==I think it’s worth mentioning that SocialWorks, an NPO formed by Chance, will be donating 10k for every 100k donated.==

Thanks for letting me know about this! I could only afford to give $100, but I gave it.

PoW, Rod, put some big money behind your big talk and beat me!

    Here’s the URL: http://www.socialworkschi.org/

  101. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 4:16 pm:

===IF that’s what Gov. Rauner is going after===

Rauner knows he wants it ALL, whatever all is

  102. - 4 percent - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 4:18 pm:

Rauner erred in going public with Chance…

That being said, the Governor didn’t break a promise - he upheld an agreement with the Assembly - the pension reform bill and the pension payments were tied together

  103. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 4:22 pm:

===he upheld an agreement with the Assembly - the pension reform bill and the pension payments were tied together===

Than Rauner, doing what governors can only do, deserves Chance’s slings and arrows.

    Rauner chose to veto.

  104. - wordslinger - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 4:23 pm:

LOL, so who is the Frat Boy that thought it was a good idea for Rauner to meet with Chance?

Didn’t turn out to be a grip and grin, send it out on twitter.

  105. - Henry Francis - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 4:53 pm:

Lol Word. Lance was gushing over meeting Kool a couple months ago.

  106. - Arsenal - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 5:02 pm:

==It all boils down to the one new guy on scene for only two years who has refused to just cut the check as all his those before him have done.==

Who else controls the Governor’s veto? Name ‘em and I’ll blame ‘em, but until then I’m gonna stick with blaming the guy who, y’know, vetoed the bill.

It’s getting really old listening to you guys beg for a blank check for Rauner. He’s the Governor. He vetoed the bill. Yes, things were bad before he got here, but in his two years in office, he’s made things worse. You can go on for another 40 years about the last 40 years, and you probably will, but it won’t change Rauner’s responsibilities.

  107. - JB13 - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 5:09 pm:

Two possible realistic responses: 1) Declare that Chance is a fine citizen who would make any family or community proud, and his $1 million donation is laudable… but you’d hope the “Chicago Democrats” now jumping up to try to use Chance’s actions for partisan political purposes can bring more to the table than simply demanding “the other hardworking people” in this state pay more and more and more, forever and ever, to make up for decades of mismanagement by the very people to whom we’re now supposed to entrust the money Basically, try to turn the focus back to the Democratic leaders and union officials who would actually be raising the taxes and demanding the money; or 2) Let today go, chalk it up as a PR loss, and hope Chance can’t inspire enough fans to turn out in 2018 to make a difference on the political calculus. But any attempt to throw shade back at Chance, either officially or through surrogates, will only invite disaster.

  108. - PublicServant - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 5:24 pm:

Hey Chance, now would be a good time to use your immense talent to create “The Governor Gridlock” rap. Just sayin…

  109. - Chicago 20 - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 6:00 pm:

At the tender age of 23 Chance became a leader and embarrassed Rauner at the same time.

    Well done, Chance well done.

  110. - blue dog dem - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 7:54 pm:

    This just in.

Gov Rauner one ups this chance fella and donates $150 million to CPS.

  111. - cannon649 - Monday, Mar 6, 17 @ 8:23 pm:

    Chance

    thanks for effort.

The liberal progressives socialists on this broad will quickly forget that

  112. - Rabid - Tuesday, Mar 7, 17 @ 6:42 am:

Did a job on the executive put up job

  113. - Lucky Pierre - Tuesday, Mar 7, 17 @ 8:59 am:

So id he donates 10K for every 100K raised, 100 million dollars of private money will have to be raised for Chance to donate the $1,000,000?

I think there is a 99.9% Chance that he won’t have to pay the 1 million dollars

  114. - AlfondoGonz - Tuesday, Mar 7, 17 @ 9:10 am:

Thanks as always for your guesswork, LP. Your point?

  115. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 7, 17 @ 9:10 am:

    - Lucky Pierre -

    All people heard yesterday was…

    “Do your job” Governor Rauner.

Going after Chance is a big mistake now.

    Big.

  116. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Mar 7, 17 @ 9:18 am:

    10K x 100 = 1M

    100K x 100 = 10M
