- Term Limits, Like ONE! - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 8:06 am:
I’m sure it’s Trumps fault.
- JoanP - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 8:47 am:
Madigan and the germs he controls!
Seriously, though, take care of yourself.
- Honeybear - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 8:47 am:
Seriously get right on top of that. Something is going around. Hope you feel better.
- cdog - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 9:20 am:
In my experience, it seems that Alka-Seltzer Cold Plus is nearly curative.
Many times it sure made for a functional day when it seemed that would not be possible.
Hope you feel better quickly!
- lake county democrat - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 9:43 am:
I’ve had really good experiences with zinc lozenges (be sure they’re zinc gluconate though) taken at the first sign of a cold. Once a cold is full-blown, I need sudafed (the real stuff, not the otc thing they’re trying to pass off) and chicken soup (wonton will due). Feel better!
- Lynn S. - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 9:48 am:
It’s Spring Break over here in Shampoo-Banana.
Sorry to hear you’re a little under the weather. Do you have someone to bring you homemade chicken soup? And perhaps you should go outside with Oscar for fresh air and sunshine!
Hope you’re feeling better soon!
- Annonin' - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 9:50 am:
Don’t forget the Beef Producers event —- best beef on the planet
- 47th Ward - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 9:53 am:
I hab da same ting Rich. Sneezing, sore throat, congestion. Yuck. Chicken soup and NyQuil for me.
- Rabid - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 10:00 am:
I thought Rauneritis fever was fake, the only cure is more sunshine
- Grandson of Man - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 10:00 am:
Take care, Rich, get rest and wishing you a quick recovery.
- A guy - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 10:32 am:
Vicks dude. Slather yourself in it. Under the nose, the chin, your neck, your chest, your elbow crease, behind your knees (all joints) and your feet-then sweat socks. I mean slather it. You’ll smell like a cough drop, but you’ll feel a lot better. If you take a hot shower first, all the better.
- Wylie Coyote - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 10:43 am:
Got the same thing. Alka Seltzer Cold Plus works wonders for a few hours. The Mrs. has it too and the docs were quick to give her good drugs.
But I did get my ass out of bed, put on a suit and am know protecting the people’s interests in the hallowed halls.
- wordslinger - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 11:03 am:
Mental health day prescription of no work, leisure- media only and day-consumption as needed of Beechwood aged elixir and medicinal herb promotes amnesia of original symptoms, lower blood pressure and restorative deep sleep off normal patterns.
- Nick Name - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 11:13 am:
Gov. Gaslight: if you want up-to-date cyber security and consultants, pass a budget.
#doyourjob: the cure for Rauneritis.
- The Dude Abides - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 11:44 am:
Rich, it sounds like you have what I’m just getting over, get well soon!
When listing a number of things the state needs to improve its well being the Governor failed to mention the biggest thing of all, a Full and Balanced Budget. That tells you all you need to know, it is not a priority to him.
As far as school funding goes, Rauner was for cutting school funding by a third. If Illinois had a sustainable income tax structured to fully cover our spending like our neighboring states do our property taxes wouldn’t be so high. Most of the states that are doing better economically than Illinois don’t have term limits. There’s no relationship between term limits and strong state economies. The Governor is just spouting more nonsense here.
- thechampaignlife - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 12:45 pm:
@KyleMcCarterIL
“How would you make Illinois’ Government smaller?”
First, establish that it should be smaller. How do we rank on spending per capita?
- Annonin' - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 1:08 pm:
McCarter’s slam of BigBrain is priceless
Meanwhile a tumblers of MakersMark and a nice cigar will make everything all better.
Watch the BigBrain presser for a few laughs…apparently his computer consultants pals don’t want their checks slowed walked. meanwhile all social service groups should refile as IT vendors.
had to chuckle when the IT $uper$tar tried to claim he had consultants design Chicago City Sticker program…like that equates to starving social workers….stick with your cyber warrior script.
- vitamin c - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 1:09 pm:
Lots & lots of tomato juice. Straight. It’ll take care of you. And it’s a cheap remedy that works courtesy of the Greatest Generation.
- Flynn's mom - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 1:25 pm:
I wish the governor would quit dropping his g’s. It sound awful and looks worse in print.
- Grandson of Man - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 1:43 pm:
“Beechwood aged elixir and medicinal herb promotes amnesia of original symptoms, lower blood pressure and restorative deep sleep off normal patterns”
I’m not sick right now, but this sounds like a great remedy for what ails you and what doesn’t.
- A Jack - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 2:29 pm:
So the Governor seriously wants to spend a billion on cyber security? And this money is going to come from where? From a mythical pension reform that may not even be constitutional? You just got to love his utter detachment from reality.
- Flynn's mom - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 2:44 pm:
@ A Jack…I hate it, I’m not finding anything to love about this gov.
- Anonymous - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 2:46 pm:
Governor Rauner will be speaking at the Logan County Republican Party Lincoln dinner at the Elks Lodge ballroom at 6:00 PM Wednesday, March 22nd at 1020 1525th St, Lincoln, IL.
There will be a rally of many concerned citizens at this event giving the Governor “feedback” on his job performance over the last two years.
Please arrive anywhere from 5:00-5:30 so we can “greet” him properly when he arrives.
- illini - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 3:15 pm:
It is already starting - from the AP -
“More than 100 nurses at Illinois prisons have received layoff notices telling them their jobs are being privatized.”
- Grandson of Man - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 3:18 pm:
A story just broke via AP, that Rauner will lay off over 100 prison nurses on June 15 and privatize their jobs. The INA’s Executive Director says it’s bullying and retaliation for not signing the contract. An unfair labor practices complaint was filed by the union.
“Elks Club”
I kind of remember seeing the club’s applications years ago, and they asked if applicants were black, or something like that. Open racism.
- wordslinger - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 3:19 pm:
So… a billion dollars for cyber-security for executive branch departments?
Um… huh? Is that a gag?
What threat makes this top-of-list, given the current fiscal meltdown? What real, quantifiable damage has been done under current systems that makes this top priority?
The state backlog of bills passed $13 billion today. It was $4.5 billion in January 2015. The state is borrowing billions from social service contractors and small-business state vendors to cover the daily nut.
Higher ed got 30% of FY15 baseline funding in FY16, and is set to get 50% of that baseline in FY17. That’s the equivalent of vivisection of the economic engines outside Chicago metro. The WSJ reported yesterday that Eastern has laid off 25% of its workforce in the last two years.
Why do these consultants rate over them? Why are they on a fast-track for a billion-dollar payday, when core state responsibilities are being bled to death? What’s the ROI for citizens?
Tell me how this is not just a fat pinstripe patronage score for a few sharpies while hundreds of thousands of regular-schmuck Illinoisans are getting tuned up by this pre-meditated, manufactured “crisis?”
- Downstate - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 4:10 pm:
Rich,
Hot chicken noodle soup. The hotter the better. Hope you get better soon.
- A Jack - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 4:27 pm:
Yes, laying off nurses, I guess so he can build cyber security against the Russians who hacked his teleprompter.
Next Rauner will be claiming that AFSCME wired tapped him.
- Anonymous - Tuesday, Mar 21, 17 @ 10:38 pm:
Let’s all let Governor Rainer know what we think of him tomorrow evening in Lincoln (see above for details).
- Present - Wednesday, Mar 22, 17 @ 7:28 am:
Mucinex, get better.
