Wednesday, Mar 29, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller * I have a ton of personal errands to run this afternoon, so blogging could be light. Talk amongst yourselves, but try to keep it Illinois-centric and be nice to each other. Thanks!

Peter Bourjos we hardly knew ye! And 100 beers available at the ‘Rate’ this year!

Don’t know how to do links on the newfangled computer thingy, but Bonnie McGrath’s blog “Mom, I think I’m poignant” is about a story her late husband Paul McGrath wrote about the building of the Thompson Center. Very interesting read.
- How Ironic - Wednesday, Mar 29, 17 @ 2:13 pm:
Nothing more Illinois-Centric than national CBS coverage of an outstanding Illinois employee. Right here in Springfield IL. This should put a smile on your face today.

- Saluki - Wednesday, Mar 29, 17 @ 2:15 pm:
Randy Dunn announced today 30 Million in cuts to SIUC and is going to declare a financial emergency.
- What's Up - Wednesday, Mar 29, 17 @ 2:19 pm:
Mayor Rahm Emanuel had an op-ed published today repeating his support for Chicago serving as a “sanctuary city” that welcomes all. He added “if you work hard and play by the rules, you can succeed…”
Playing by the rules does not included following Federal immigration laws apparently if one supports Emanuel’s twisted logic.
Chicago may lose millions if this policy persists.
- 47th Ward - Wednesday, Mar 29, 17 @ 2:24 pm:
===following Federal immigration laws apparently===
Some of these people were just children following their parents when they came here. I guess under your twisted logic, they should be deported back to a country they’ve never known.
See you in church, brother.
- What's Up - Wednesday, Mar 29, 17 @ 2:30 pm:
So let’s suspend all immigration laws. That is not a viable solution.
Chicago cannot afford to lose a dollar and there is a new sheriff in town.
- 47th Ward - Wednesday, Mar 29, 17 @ 2:33 pm:
===So let’s suspend all immigration laws.===
Strawman. Try again.
- Nicon in Lincoln Square - Wednesday, Mar 29, 17 @ 2:35 pm:
So when Ameya Pawar’s gubernatorial bid flames out, will he run for Mayor of Chicago in 2019 or run for a third term as Alderman and renege on his promise to serve only 2 terms?
- Robert the 1st - Wednesday, Mar 29, 17 @ 2:42 pm:
=just children following their parents=
Kids are often hurt by their parents’ crimes. Like whenever we throw their mom or dad in prison.
- 47th Ward - Wednesday, Mar 29, 17 @ 2:47 pm:
“I was a stranger and you did not welcome me.”
Good luck on Judgement Day guys. Yeesh.
We change laws every day. It’s well past time we changed the broken immigration laws in this country.
- Yeah - Wednesday, Mar 29, 17 @ 2:59 pm:
It would appear having more people in Chicago would be good for Rents, and bad for Wages. Rahm may spend a lot of time with folks who are landlords and who hire people.
We are fortunate to have Rich Miller keeping us not only informed, but reminding us of history and keeping things in perspective.

“Perhaps the most interesting portion of the story were the changes that the architects had to make as costs mounted.”
My dad worked on the building’s construction. He said the cuts left it such that it would never be able to be properly heated or cooled, and that it would not be a good building in general.
- Robert the Bruce - Wednesday, Mar 29, 17 @ 3:01 pm:
@Nicon, I’ll guess he keeps his pledge but runs not for mayor, but rather for a lower citywide or county or statewide office.
- Alexander Paterakis - Your friendly neighborhood Candidate - Wednesday, Mar 29, 17 @ 3:42 pm:
Rich Miller has chose to ignore the Paterakis revolution, check for yourself…

People. Be nice.

Listened to Dan Long (COGFA) speak today at RSEA about the lack of a budget, taxes, revenues, and pensions. Very interesting …

Cubs, Sox or Cards - any thoughts before the regular season begins?
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Mar 29, 17 @ 3:55 pm:
Dear Alexander Paterakis,
This is me, actually being nice….
If you are running for Governor and you want me to take you seriously, commenting like a drive-by troll on a blog when you should be out meeting people and and raising money isn’t the best way for me to do that.
Don’t respond to this. This is a friendly piece of stand-alone advice, not a discussion.

I’ve heard some speculating that Bruce may turn to furloughs if he doesn’t get his way with the AFSCME contract. What do you think?
- Walter Concrete - Wednesday, Mar 29, 17 @ 4:08 pm:
The blog post on the Thompson Center is quite good. It is definitely worth a read.
- William J Kelly - Wednesday, Mar 29, 17 @ 4:29 pm:
Join me this Thursday 6p at kitty o’shea’s for the beer with Bill tour of Illinois kickoff party, brought to you by Citizen Kelly’s Irish Ale, see you there!

So anyone know if the Senate Budget bills will be called this week ? Any bets ? Odds?
- WhoKnew - Wednesday, Mar 29, 17 @ 4:56 pm:
2 things!
I hate when I see the responses, but am to late for the Deleted entry.
And.
Figure my share of Illinois’ Debt is about $10,000.
My share of the National Debt is about $57,000.
So there that!
- Gooner - Wednesday, Mar 29, 17 @ 5:39 pm:
Since Rich asked to keep it Ilinois-centric, I can’t discuss Arsenal. However, we can discuss SCHWEINSTEIGER!
He’s not what he once was, but he’s still the best player to play her since The Sting had some near world-class talent.

I just hope that Basti is better than Blanco was.

Any chance tomorrow you can put audio up of McCann’s closing from the nurses bill? That was lights out!
- MissingG - Thursday, Mar 30, 17 @ 8:46 am:
To Oswego Willy,
I doubt that the real Alexander Paterakis is aware of CapFax.
To All,
Isn’t it time somebody files a house resolution naming cats the official state pet? I’ve been waiting for the cats v. dogs debate for years
- Scamp640 - Thursday, Mar 30, 17 @ 9:06 am:
@ Missing G. I know SIU alumni might think the state dog is the Saluki, but I think the Illinois State dog is the Weimarauner.
