Did Rauner just take property taxes and term limits off the table?
Wednesday, Apr 12, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller * Gov. Rauner was in Quincy today…
If that’s the case then he should’ve let the Senate pass its grand bargain last month. But, c’mon, we all know it’s not the case. He’s just talking nice things to the cameras because he knows the people behind the cameras won’t ever put one and one together.

Restaurant-Quality. That’s just too good.
To the Post,
The vertical integration will take this and run it thru the news service, run an editorial about it, talk about the editorial based on the quote in a radio program, then all those “cites” will exist for paid media like commercials and mail pieces…
… all the while wholly and blatently dishonest to what is going on, or the game plan that is counter to these words.
The blowing up the Grand Bargain, undercutting Leader Radogno, and then “this” makes clear;
Rauner is counting on press coverage of 90-120 second sound bites to offset Rauner’s real plan few actually cover.
This is why this trip was paid for with campaign cash I guess(?)

Indeed. His blarney is for the uninformed voters I mentioned in an earlier post today. He is a one trick pony.

Hilarious,
“This just in….Rauner says none of his agenda is necessary.”
- HistProf - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 12:54 pm:
As usual OW makes a solid point. But “vertical integration” sounds so . . . late 19th Century. In this world of social media and media diversification, is there some way to make Capitolfax stories like this go viral elsewhere?

Still waiting for an acknowledgment after two years from the majority party in the legislature that we need the economic growth in the private sector and they have to change their policies that stifle private sector job creation.
To what do they attribute our sorry unemployment numbers that helped Rauner get elected?

Let me fix it a little…..
It’s “willfully uninformed voters”.

=and they have to change their policies that stifle private sector job creation.=
And those are? Please, for the unsure, spell them out.
BTW- I would suggest getting your lunch sack and waiting out on the front porch, someone will be along to explain things to you right after they get the real TA numbers from the governor.
Seriously, some one will come….
- btowntruth from forgotonnia - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 1:11 pm:
Lucky:
You will get that after the minority party admits that the Governor they are so scared of has failed to propose anything close to a balanced budget since he was elected.
- Illinois O'Malley - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 1:12 pm:
@Lucky, I helped a friend setup an engineering company last year in Chicago and they have 12 employees and looking to expand again. The secret? He is a great boss, not once did he mention regulations keeping him down.
- Joe M - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 1:12 pm:
His turnaround agenda has always been a moving target whose items can’t be zeroed in on — or ruled out either, as he will eventually keep bringing “dropped” items back.
- tobias846 - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 1:17 pm:
This is very odd. If he really was signaling that he’d take those two items off the table, why did he do this in Quincy where it was far less likely to be noticed?
Also, left unsaid was whether he’d still sign off on an income tax increase with no property tax freeze. A month ago that “parity” issue was a huge deal.
- Deft Wing - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 1:18 pm:
Lucky Pierre is absolutely right, Dems in the legislature are a mess & have no recovery plan– “Look at Trump!” But that doesn’t change the fact that Rauner is his own worst enemy the minute he opens his mouth.
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 1:22 pm:
===Still waiting for an acknowledgment after two years from the majority party in the legislature that we need the economic growth in the private sector and they have to change their policies that stifle private sector job creation.===
See; Bargain, Grand, undercut and blown up by Gov. Rauner.
Blaming the Dems for not steering the ship, something governors do for states is admitting Rauner is inept.
Very well, I agree with you, Rauner is inept.
(Hat tip, humbly, to - HistProf -)

Believing the words of our current governor has been shown to be a mistake.
- The Dude Abides - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 1:25 pm:
@Joe M
You are correct. The list of reforms that he is talking about changes from week to week depending on who he is talking about. The Democrats leaders should request a meeting with him this week and tell him that if he’s willing to put term limits and property tax freeze on hold for now they will work with him on some meaningful workman’s comp reform. I’ll bet if they did he would come up with another demand that he knows will blow up any deal.
- Former hillrod - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 1:27 pm:
Lucky, please explain in detail how term limits will impact the economy to the extent that robust economic growth will be the direct result of them. Please show your work for all of us to see please. We want actual numbers not dishonest generalities. I could make this really challenging for you and ask that you do this for the other items on Rauner’s ever evolving list of “reforms” but I thought it best to keep it to justthis one item to keep things simple. Go.
- Truthteller - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 1:31 pm:
Rauner must know he’s likely a one-termed and is auditioning for the revived Clairol ads.
In his case not only doesn’t his hairdresser know, it’s not clear if he knows what his bottom line is.
He’s a little league version of Trump- all over the map.
- Earnest - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 1:36 pm:
>the people behind the cameras won’t ever put one and one together…
Brutal, and so accurate. Good on Rauner for so effectively using every avenue open (wide open) to him. Shame on the IDP for not forcing him to take a detour here and there. Shame on the media for giving away free advertising instead of taking the very small amount of effort it would take to do some outstanding human interest stories.

We can believe that the goal from the get go is to destroy organized labor beginning with public sector unions. The rest is whatever blather that comes out of his mouth at any given moment to attempt to distract and deflect from the true objective.

How much data do you need from the last two decades to show that Illinois has failed in job production with loss of population relative to neighboring states to see a correlation to the fact that Illinois is not business friendly in comparison to these states?
- Anon - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 2:04 pm:
Maybe that’s Raunerspeak for “just let me stick it to AFSCME and I’ll release the hostages.”
- Former hillrod - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 2:09 pm:
Arock, nice deflection. Since Lucky won’t answer my question regarding verifiable economic benefits of term limits maybe you would like to have a go at it. Shoot.

60 and 30.
Rauner needs 60 and 30.
Right now, “Bruce Rauner has failed” these past two years in accomplishing anything except to get his negatives to 58% a mere 3% “higher” than Speaker Madigan.
Not much to run on except to run away from his own failures(?)
- DuPage - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 2:25 pm:
“There is nothing in what I’m recommending that has to be there,” Rauner said.
That’s right governor, NOTHING that you are recommending has to be there! If you can’t lead or follow, at least GET OUT OF THE WAY!
- Union Man - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 2:36 pm:
Dear Bruce,
Businesses are drawn to stability, particularly geographical and political stability. You want to attract businesses? Quit being obstinate, pass a budget, start leading, quit buck-passing.

“No state budget for you!”
There is no table in Illinois anymore. It was replaced by Grover Norquist’s bathtub the day Rauner was sworn in.
- Honeybear - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 2:56 pm:
No, Rauner didn’t take them off the table
He duct taped them like a bomb to his hostages chests.
- Sense of a Goose - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 2:59 pm:
Say what you will about Madigan, he isn’t helping his party but he is a man of his word. He doesn’t do that via the press and he won’t negotiate with jello.

==To what do they attribute our sorry unemployment numbers that helped Rauner get elected? ===
LP (or Lance or Mike or Catherine or Kellyanne or whatever your name is):
First, I believe it was called a “recession” - look it up! As Rich has pointed out many times, Illinois tends to both enter and exit recessions later than the country as a whole.
Second - the unemployment rate in Illinois has dropped from 8.2% to 5.4% in the time that Governor Gaslight has been in office. I’m not exactly sure what *you* are suggesting, but my lyin’ eyes say that was done without even a single item off the TA agenda being accomplished. Just sayin’
