Does this guy want to win a general election?

    Walter Mondale 2.

Not one person on the Biss Crew couldn’t see…

    “Taxes Please”

    (Face Palm)

This isn’t the best use of a picture. Do better.

    To the Post…

    “Biss Disses, But Misses Mark”

  5. - fan - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 9:02 am:

I like Biss but it is a bit ironic that he is holding that sign when he didn’t pay any federal taxes.

  6. - GOPgal - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 9:04 am:

Shocking that the Democratic Party has been decimated down to a mere regional organization.

  7. - Cubs in '16 - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 9:09 am:

“Madigan minion Daniel Biss appeals directly to the taxpayers of Illinois.”

“Next campaign stop…a ride in Dukakis’ tank”

  9. - Biscuit Head - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 9:15 am:

After his series of videos and posts in previous months I’d been giving Biss the benefit of the doubt that he was a bright thoughtful candidate.

But the last two things I’ve heard from him is that
1 - Fellow Democrat Pritzger is rich (like Trump and Rauner) so based solely on that he is unqualified to be a good Governor and now
    2 - Taxes Please

    This is lame.

Biss, you need get your act together now - or get out of the race and quit taking up space.

  10. - Lucky Pierre - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 9:20 am:

Yes once we see Donald Trump’s tax returns we can finally solve Illinois budget crisis.

In the meantime, antagonizing a sitting US President will not do us any favors with his administration. Look for the EPA office to close here soon and take those good jobs out of state.

Thanks Senator for rabble rousing instead of governing.

  11. - Earnest - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 9:24 am:

I will not run the state like a business. I will run it like my campaign.

“Lacking the ability to emulate Howard Dean’s war cry, Biss chooses a different method to sabotage his campaign.”

    ===Ignorance is Biss===

    Genius!

  16. - A guy - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 9:35 am:

A cast of thousands….but in this image; 8.

    Taxes, Please.

hmmm. One might think someone else posted the pic and message. But, alas, no. It’s political malpractice by the dude himself. Bad form.

Caption: How not to do it.

  17. - Red fish blue fish - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 9:39 am:

This is a concerning rookie mistake from team Biss. He’s supposed to be the most experienced of the candidates. I may have been too hasty in disregarding Pawar’s chances.

  18. - Slippin' Jimmy - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 9:45 am:

    ” Yeah, that’s not what I meant”.

  19. - don the legend - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 9:57 am:

Banner Printer: “Are you sure that’s what you wanna say? How about ‘Release Your Tax Returns?’ or something like that?”

Biss: “No, no, ‘Taxes Please’ is just the kind of confusing message voters love.”

Banner Printer: “I dunno. Seems like you may be shooting yourself in the foot here.”

Biss: “Hey, whose foot is it, anyway? Ha ha. Trust me, I know what I’m doing.”

Banner Printer: (Oy! What a schmuck)

Even worse than Mike Dukakis in a helmet

  24. - Jocko - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 10:14 am:

Talk about leading with your chin.

In his defense, his phone call to the printer was “Taxes? Puh-leeze. ::eye roll::”

  25. - Deft Wing - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 10:22 am:

Who runs a commercial against Biss with that picture prominently displayed first, IL GOP/Rauner or a Dem opponent like Pritzker or Kennedy?

  26. - Poolside1776 - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 10:32 am:

    @Lucky Pierre
I expected more from you. You missed prime trolling opportunities with this post. For example, point to what some would consider the hypocrisy of Biss demanding that millionaires pay their fair share while he pays little to no taxes himself. Even worse, his tax records show that he gives almost nothing to charity, indicating a lack of compassion or the mistaken belief that working for the IDP political machine is “public service”.
See? I just did your job for you.
These are low hanging fruit. You risk losing your honorary Capitol Fax top troll award.

    Regarding the post:
    “Pawar breathes sigh of relief.”

Rauner campaign photographer asks Biss to smile wide.

  28. - Anonymous - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 10:53 am:

He was excited to be at the front of the line. Didn’t really care what the sign said.

  29. - Il annoyed - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 10:53 am:

I think that the Mike D. and Mondale type comments are amusingly witty, but I disagree with them.

All the old political rules are out in IL and the nation. Before the 08 crash, Obama would have been unelectable with his name alone, Trump would have been disqualified by his extreme rhetoric/sex abuse/and pushed aside by the party establishment…. Its a very different political world out there. None of the old rules apply.

After decades of trickle down theory that doesn’t work, Biss is reclaiming the idea of taxation as a good, as investments (not the state plundering).

It might win over a lot of progressive Dems who find him a lot more appealing than JB and CK, who are about as uninspiring as it gets (save, perhaps, Hilary Clinton). And it could work, because the 80s are over.

  30. - Come on Man! - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 11:07 am:

Is it Taxes, please or Taxes! Puh-lease.

  31. - Ron Burgundy - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 11:18 am:

Welcome to our parade, Senator Biss! We at the Service Companies Recycling Union are happy to have you marching with us. We’ll put you right up behind our sign!

Sen. Biss: “Great!” *stands behind SCRU Voters” sign*

  32. - Chicago Cynic - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 11:30 am:

“Biss is reclaiming the idea of taxation as a good”

Il Annoyed, good luck with that. I’m a big believer in a progressive income tax even though I will be one of the people hurt. But that framing is about as sure bet of a political loser as it comes. No, times haven’t changed that much.

  33. - Arthur Andersen - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 11:35 am:

“The other side of the banner says “Resist Biss.” Should I have gone with that?”

  34. - OneMan - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 11:46 am:

That guy just gave us a sign to carry today.

    Wait, was that Dan Proft?

  35. - Responsa - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 11:48 am:

Biss to his major supporters: “Oh, don’t be such worrywarts! This is for my primary voters. Everybody will forget this silly sign by the general”

  36. - Responsa - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 11:53 am:

Jan S. points out to Biss the advantage of being short rather than tall. .

  37. - Amalia - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 12:00 pm:

if he was not for gun regulations, I’d say he shot himself in the foot.

  38. - Lucky Pierre - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 12:19 pm:

Look at this shiny object over here folks, Donald Trump does not pay taxes and his administration is filled with secret Russian double agents.

Meanwhile Illinois has 10 percent of the unfunded pension liability in the country and Chicago Public Schools are about to close 3 weeks early because they can’t afford their pension payments.

Our state has not had a balanced budget in decades and legislators won’t compromise with the Governor on anything.

Our Auditor General who charged with reviewing the obligation, expenditure, receipt and use of public funds is under investigation for fraudulent use of his expense account but the highest ranking Democrat in this state is convinced of his innocence without know ing all of the facts.

Perhaps you can comment on that Senator Biss?

No wonder we lead the nation in distrust of state government.

  39. - Cubs in '16 - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 12:37 pm:

    “Beautiful day for the #resistance.”

    Resistance is futile.

  40. - Cubs in '16 - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 2:03 pm:

“No, no this is all a big Biss-understanding!”

  41. - ILGOV2018 - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 2:21 pm:

    - Lucky Pierre - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 9:20 am:

No, seeing Trump’s tax returns will not solve Illinois’ budget problems, but Rauner making $155M in 2016 doesn’t sit well with the common folks and doesn’t solve Illinois’ budget problems either.

In the meantime, antagonizing a the entire ILGA will not do us any favors with trying to solve Illinois’ budget problems. Look for state college offices to close here soon and drive Illinois students out of state.

Thanks Governor Rauner for rabble rousin and continually campaignin instead of governin.

There LP, fixed it for you.

  42. - Shytown - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 4:02 pm:

    “Oops”

  43. - Deft Wing - Friday, Apr 21, 17 @ 4:31 pm:

Inside the intricate head of Sen./Prof Biss after that wonderful photo-Op:

    “It’s all a Biss-understanding, a Biss-take, a Biss-Miss! People like taxes … even if I don’t pay any.”

“I wonder if JB would take me as Lt. Gov or, better get me a real job!”
