Planned Parenthood on Tuesday released a poll and TV ad aimed at putting pressure on Rep. Peter Roskam — who is already being targeted by Democrats as a vulnerable Republican in a district that favored Hillary Clinton for president.
“Extreme politicians are trying to defund Planned Parenthood which would have a devastating impact on the more than 60,000 people who rely on Planned Parenthood in Illinois,” the ad says, while urging constituents to call Roskam to ask him “to protect women’s health.” The ad is paid for by the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. The ads will run for at least one week in the Chicago area media market. […]
The Planned Parenthood poll conducted by Public Policy Polling found — out of 566 voters in the Sixth Congressional District — 57 percent opposed changes to health care that would “defund” Planned Parenthood. Of those polled 49 percent said they supported the Affordable Care Act, with 39 percent opposing and 11 percent unsure. […]
The poll also sought to learn whether Trump’s proposed actions to defund Planned Parenthood made them more likely to participate in grassroots activity: 51 percent said they were more likely; 26 percent said they were less likely; 22 percent said it didn’t make a difference and 1 percent said they were not sure.
* Democrat and former Naperville school board member Suzyn Price has been hitting the incumbent hard in recent days on this general topic…
“If you have cancer, diabetes or if you’re pregnant, insurance companies will be able to deny you care or vastly increase the cost of it under the new Roskam-Ryan-Trump plan,” she said in a statement. “We need a representative in the 6th district that listens to what people want and stands up against this radical agenda.”
I can’t get over how much Roskam’s problems are self inflicted. Clinton winning this district gave Dems a morale boost no doubt but look at that Sun-Times editorial linked above, Roskam’s obstinance is giving neutrals ammo. Downtown reporters don’t want to head all the way out to the far western suburbs to go cover endless town halls so if Roskam would have just had a few and let everyone burn off their pent up steam this all probably would have blown over. Instead now it’s a full blown thing, and it was self inflicted.

The AHCA preserved the preexisting conditions and dependent coverage aspects of Obamacare, but let’s not let facts get in the way of the narrative.
Decent ad give it a C+ , of course as much as it may motivate some to vote Dem , the 6th district is strongly Republican with lots of catholic/evangelical voters. So in the end likely a neutral in terms of impacting the polls in 2018.
Suzyn Price quit the 203 school board before the end of her term because it was “too dysfunctional.” Mrs. Price, how do you think congress will be?

Last time Roskam had a primary challenger from the right. I think he might be vulnerable to a primary challenge from the left. His worst case is a challenger from both sides.
@Colby Jack- The MacArthur Amendment allows states to significantly weaken or eliminate state community ratings which protect persons with pre existing conditions. The AMA, AARP, AHA and other organizations believe that insurers will be able to charge sick people many times more than under the ACA. So you may still be able to get insurance, but how affordably is very questionable.
This is puffery. He’s safe. The Ad? Not too hot. The highway? If you’re already a hard supporter of Planned Parenthood, you’ll like this ad. If you’re not, you won’t. If you don’t have an opinion…you probably still won’t as a result of this ad.

The current version permits state-opt outs but more importantly, it phases out the medicaid expansion

The ad would be much better without that video of the highway that was shot nowhere close to Illinois. Grade: B

B+ just because I can’t decide on the highway video. it is evocative of all things out of Chicago, but it’s not shot here.

Colby jack- there was a second part to that statement…

Placing people back into high risk pools may give them access to coverage, but being able to pay for it becomes a whole ‘nuther matter.

Both parties and many causes do it, but I uniformly hate the ads and robocalls that say “go call politician X and tell him/her X”.

Guy, that’s the first time I’ve heard a testimonial from an actual cancer patient called “puffery,” but you have elastic standards.
The spot is effective in showing that Planned Parenthood actually provides health services to women.
You might not know that from the rhetoric in some quarters of the GOP.
