ILGOP accuses Pritzker of lying

J.B. Pritzker Lying to Reporters
Peddling in Alternative Facts about Uninhabitable Mansion Scam
Just weeks into his campaign for Governor, J.B. Pritzker is already lying to reporters about troubling tax breaks he took out on two of his Gold Coast Chicago mansions.
Asked about the questionable property tax appeal on his $3.7 million mansion on a radio show yesterday, the Associated Press reports that Pritzker says he “appealed only once in the nine years he has owned the property”.
That is patently false.
According to the Cook County Assessor, Pritzker appealed his 2016 property taxes, again claiming his mansion was “uninhabitable”.
This means that Assessor Joe Berrios reduced Pritzker’s assessment by 83% for the second year in a row.
And as a result of his 2015 appeal, Pritzker also received huge refunds retroactively for years 2012, 2013, and 2014 – netting him a $132,000 check according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Capitol Fax also reported yesterday that Pritzker appealed his property taxes on a third Chicago property - a condo near his Gold Coast mansions.
All of this means that Pritzker’s claim that he “appealed only once in the nine years” is a lie. He’s appealed twice and has received property tax breaks for five years.
Will J.B. Pritzker stop shortchanging Chicago schoolchildren, lying to reporters, and end his scam?

Remove J.B Pritzker and insert Bruce Rauner. Gotta love it when the pot calls the kettle black.

It’s been so long since they’ve used anything other than “because malignant”. No wonder this is falling flat.

Sure it is. Keep telling yourself that.
- Fixer - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 11:34 am:
“We’ve increased school funding by $x” is also patently false. When will Bruce Rauner stop lying to citizens and reporters, ILGOP?
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 11:35 am:
Well…
Pritzker….
Pritzker Crew…
Had enough? Had enough of chasing your own tail? Had enough of being the challenger yet y’all are the ones being challenged?
The Rauner Crew bet you’d just let it go, hope it would fade away… and they aren’t letting go, so it can’t fade away.
Are y’all convinced yet you need to be attacking Rauner or y’all afraid of another shoe that will again catch you flat footed.
When you guys have had enough, you let me know. I’ll be watching Billy Bigelow carny bark outside the two Pritzker houses for my own amusement.
- 47th Ward - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 11:37 am:
Didn’t Bruce Rauner “unintentionally” file multiple homeowner exemptions? Didn’t he personally sign each of those, you know, where the form says that you swear this is your primary residence and that you have no other homestead exemptions on any other property?
Or am I mis-remembering? Can somebody ask the ILGOP about that? Maybe they can clarify who was cheating on their taxes for us.
- Nick Name - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 11:47 am:
“Peddling in Alternative Facts…”
Does the ILGOP really want to remind people of this phrase, from Republican White House staffer Kellyanne Conway?

Properly fund Education and this wont have to occur….Is it just me or does JB look like Nien Naub of star wars fame?
- Norseman - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 11:52 am:
Willy is right. JB needs to be more aggressive. We know Rauner is a huge liar, but he’s going to keep throwing mud out there to see what stick. Remember their love of Ooda Loops. If JB doesn’t aggressively respond, Rauner will frame the election the way he wants to.
- Trump2020 - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 11:58 am:
JB reminds me of Fat Cat from Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers.
- Rocky Rosi - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 11:58 am:
This is a move by the IL GOP to help Chris Kennedy. They would rather face Chris than JB in the general due to the fact JB has money to fight back.

One might wonder the wisdom of DopeyDuct pressin’ the issue when he has nine+ homes around the world with who know what kind of tax records. Dopey is also a guy with 65 self declared conflicts of interest based on new filin’s.
We would think he should stick taxpayer funded media stunts like arrangin’ summer pizza parties while child abuse investigators stumble. Sheer genius.
- Winnin' - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 12:28 pm:
This is not near as bad as Rauner’s investment in nursing homes and the problems that followed. Child’s play compared to that.
If Pritzker re-runs those ads and others about the way Rauner does business, and the shambles in which he leaves Illinois, Rauner will be toast.
The corollary is too strong.
Poor Bruce.
- Come on Man! - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 12:38 pm:
Winnin’ what makes you think Pritzker is above that same issue? Billionaire have billionaire problem. As Mase said in the ’90’s Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems.
- Plutocrat03 - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 12:41 pm:
When you appeal your property taxes successfully, all the local taxing bodies get less money for their budgets for that year. The next year everyone has to pay just a little bit more to fulfil the levy.
If jb purchased a property and deliberately degraded it to a less valuable condition, he stole money from the taxing bodies e. g. The schools he pretends to support and spread the tax burden on all other in his district.
He does like to think big.
- A Jack - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 12:54 pm:
One way JB could get ahead of this is by donating an equivalent amount to Chane the Rapper’s fund for Chicago Schools. That might get Chance on his side as well as the African-American community. JB doesn’t need the money and he can probably claim that as a charitable contribution on his taxes.
Then whenever the ILGOP brings it up, he said he helped Chicago Schools directly with the money because Rauner failed.
- Anonymous - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 12:54 pm:
Plutocrat: that description of tax assessments in Cook County is not accurate. Property appeals filed in one year do not affect assessments for that year. Taxing bodies get no more or less than their levy; all assessment appeals do is reallocate the amount of money owed on each property.
- Stand Tall - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 1:04 pm:
Sounds like a bunch of children that got their hands caught in the cookie jar, well I’m not so bad so & so did this and it is far worse. Man up and realize your candidate plays the same games as everyone else and hasn’t walked the talk. He has used every legal angle available to reduce his tax liability be it on property tax or income tax. He doesn’t want to pay taxes anymore than anyone else.
- wordslinger - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 1:05 pm:
Just to be clear, Rauner’s hand-picked political crew thinks it’s bad for gubernatorial candidates to lie to reporters?
That’s a major development.
- The Dude Abides - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 1:06 pm:
The ILGOP is obviously concerned about JBP and they should be. They don’t have the money advantage that they enjoy over every other Democrat. It’s May 2017 and they are acting like the General Election is this fall.
- OneMan - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 1:38 pm:
They have a Democrat who is already running political ads on TV. The GOP has the resources to bring this up and counter the guy, they would be silly not to do so. Why let anyone get a free pass if you don’t have to? It’s smart politics, property taxes are a sore point in this state and pointing out a candidate let a house become inhabitable and then claim that to get their property taxes reduced is a good attack. You think if this was Raunner the Democrats would just let this go? Tax shenanigans always play well…
I would even suspect this will play into a bigger thing about property taxes that can tie in Madigan and Pritzker. This isn’t about convincing people that hate Rauner to vote for him, it is about defining a guy, which since he is running bio ads at this point you kind of have to work on defining and increasing the negatives on now. You don’t let a candidate define who they are, you try and define who a candidate is.
- Rabid - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 1:46 pm:
ILGOP is fighting to lower/freeze local property taxes for all taxpayers or their pants are burning s
- Winnin' - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 1:48 pm:
Come on, Man:
Pritzker owns businesses that employ people. Rauner buys businesses, keeps the profitable parts and throws the jobs and carcasses to the side of the road. And what he did with that nursing home is what he is doing to Illinois.
- OneMan - Tuesday, May 16, 17 @ 2:05 pm:
So you guys think the arguments that didn’t seem to work last time are going to work this time? Good luck with that…
With Pritzker you lose
– Rich guys are bad
– No experience is bad
Not really sure what you gain besides self-funding (there is a lot to be said for that) with Pritzker. I personally think Bliss might be a better choice to run against Raunner.

Ya still got “Bruce Rauner failed”
Worked. Just 2 1/2 years ago.

And you are going have ‘We are going to have to raise your taxes and nothing else will change’ on the other side.
With Respect as well

Unless Rauner, to get a budget, signs the Rauner Tax, arguably the single largest permanent tax increase in state history, and those Rauner Cuts too… with Rauner’s signature.
It’s all good. Hope you’re well, sincerely as always.

One Man–
Yes, Pat Quinn’s negatives were high and he could not get above 50 percent approval despite those enlightening ads about Rauner.
So, with Rauner’s negatives so off-the-chart low, those ads about him being a destroyer will most surely resonate.
He needs a budget this year or he is toast.

–Yes, Pat Quinn’s negatives were high and he could not get above 50 percent approval despite those enlightening ads about Rauner.–
Quinn barely got a whiff of 40% approval. He maxed out at 36%. Rauner didn’t exactly take down Goliath.
The last Simon poll had Rauner at 36% approval.
But Rauner can run on how he’s made the fiscal situation so much better during his tenure. If you turn all the graphs upside down.
