State Solutions, an issue-advocacy organization affiliated with the Republican Governors Association, released a new television advertisement today in Illinois, highlighting Governor Bruce Rauner’s push to balance the budget, reform government and grow jobs.
“The broken ideas of the ‘Duct Tape Dynasty’ - higher taxes and more spending – got Illinois into this mess, but Governor Rauner’s budget plan offers real reforms to fix Illinois now,” said State Solutions spokesman Jon Thompson. “Governor Rauner is working hard to enact a balanced budget that grows jobs and supports the middle class, not the political class.”
It’s about Madigan, a cheesy duct taped dome, B-Roll footage of nothing in particular, and a different shirt in a phony set that’s suppose to be a workshop.
“C-”
Wonder if Pritzker is ever going to get to knowing down Rauner… I mean, before the dark money ads begin with the “Billy Bigelow” Pat Brady railing on JB and that tax break house…
Duct tape is better than Rauner’s obstruct scrape.
- Memo From Turner - Wednesday, May 17, 17 @ 1:51 pm:
That is a nice ad because it plays to peoples’ perceptions of Springfield and politicians in general. Also works because it plays off of the JB/Madigan corruption ad over property taxes. A because it is effective.
Rippin’ off Duck Dynasty, Tool Time, and Red Green??? OK ad, but when the “portraits” came up, all that came to mind was the current news about no official portrait for Blago. After that it was all “blah, blah, blah” See and Say Rauner.
I don’t understand how anyone with eyes and half a brain can’t see the destruction going on under Rauner. He only won the last election because of disaffected Dems not happy with Quinn. That’s not going to happen in 2018. At this point, he’s only preaching to the partisan faithful. Solid “D”.
–I don’t understand how anyone with eyes and half a brain can’t see the destruction going on under Rauner. –
Clearly, some of the people, all of the time, are in favor of it. Some of them cop to it here, others just don’t even bother to address it and babble on about “reforms” and “creating jobs.”
It’s hard to know what lens to judge this ad through without seeing where the “grand bargain” goes. If the grand bargain should happen then Rauner will have to explain how he can attach his name to the higher taxes that go along with it. With no grand bargain Rauner will be left to explain how he’s unable to, after two years, implement his budget plan.
My instincts continue to tell me that Rauner does not expect to have a budget during his tenure. On that basis I have to give this no better than a “D”. He can have the best plan in the world but if he’s unable to implement it or unwilling to compromise on alternatives he will be judged a failure.
I am with Wordslinger. Who on this earth has a workshop that is spotless and full of tools that have never, ever been used? People who make almost $200 million a year, I guess.

Every time Rauner/RGA says the “Rauner Balanced Budget Plan” someone should kick the living crap of them. Civic Federation and others provides the path.

You gotta really respect guys like Griffin. He has long called out the injustice of rich people not having enough of a voice in our country, and he is doing something about it. Guys like him and Bruce have so many barriers to success and we just need to listen.
F The duct tape analogy is not working and the flannel shirt has to go. No minorities….again!
With all the money Bruce and Ken are donating maybe they should try Gorilla Glue instead of duct tape.

As if Illinois could afford duct tape.

That workshop is hilarious. Operating theaters aren’t that neat and clean.
Who built it — Schock’s Downton Abbey interior decorator?

WHEN is Governor Duct Tape going to submit his Constitutionally Mandated Balanced Budget?

Maybe if Bruce grew a long beard.

Rauner wins the messaging day again.
Rauner wins it with a “C-” ad.

Solid B-, I think the last line (while completely false) will play well. They couldn’t find even a single B-roll shot of one minority??

Rauner had that same problem at GTCR, what with the finding of certain people.
–”We were frustrated,” Rauner said. “We weren’t finding the folks. They weren’t there.”–

Pretty good ad. Plays to common perceptions and fears, yet pleasant in tone. B-
Not one statement in it is true, — e.g. what “balanced budget plan?” — but whatever works these days.

Where’s the Beef? What “balanced budget plan?” It certainly isn’t listed on fixillinois website!
If he has a “balanced budget plan” why hasn’t he sent it to the GA?

It probably bothers Rauner that Trump has done more since January 2017, than he has since January 2015.
