Rauner explains his weight loss
Friday, Aug 18, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller
* Tribune…
The lanky governor — he’s 6 feet 4 inches — didn’t exactly carry excess baggage on his frame to start with, but he’s lost 20 pounds since his election, he said on WTTW-Ch. 11’s “Chicago Tonight” earlier this week.
Asked about it during the Illinois State Fair this week, Rauner said there’s no secret, special diet or workout regime behind his weight loss.
“It’s just hard work,” he told Chicago Inc.
* Pretty much everybody who has seen him up close, particularly when he’s not wearing a jacket or a vest, has noticed how thin he is these days. You can really see it in his own video…

“Backbone.”
“Madigan.”
“Madigan.”

Billionaire politicians rarely, if ever, get it. You can’t buy an office and then think you can do everything your way.
He’s stressed out. No doubt.

It’s been easy to tell from the way his clothes hanging off them, even when he’s wearing a jacket.

Clothes are hanging off him – I hate the way dictation gets changed before you even have a chance to hit the send button.

I love CapFax but I have to ask: who cares? I greatly dislike the guy and everything he stands for but it’s not like it’s some big secret he’s got an incredibly stressful job with lots of travel.
Don’t know that cracking jokes about his physical appearance is smart or kind.
- Flynn's mom - Friday, Aug 18, 17 @ 9:49 am:
You’d think a rich guy like him could hire a tailor.

I sat behind him when he attended my church near the end of session. He looked much thinner than the last time I had seen him. He has always been thin, though.

The health and well-being of the state’s chief executive is not something to be concerned about?

Agreed.

I’ll take him at his word on this. Agree or disagree with his actions, he has worked very hard.

I thought he’s 6′7″ or 6′8″?
- DuPage - Friday, Aug 18, 17 @ 10:15 am:
Governor, don’t neglect your health. See your doctor regularly for check-ups, and anything unusual like losing 20 pounds when you are not trying to lose weight.
- Rocky Rosi - Friday, Aug 18, 17 @ 10:26 am:
I just spoke with him and his weight loss is due to diet and long work hours. Veggie and fish diet can do wonders.

- Ducky LaMoore - Friday, Aug 18, 17 @ 10:36 am:
Wow he is even skinnier now than three months ago. Hope he is okay. From a political standpoint, he should try gaining back some weight. When your negatives are as high as they are, you aren’t even going to have a chance to win an election if people think you are sick.
- David - Friday, Aug 18, 17 @ 10:37 am:
I have a veggie and some fish diet but I have not managed that kind of weight loss. He can afford to see the Doctor. But if he wants to waste all his money on pointless crusted so be it.

Saw the Governor drinking Stag beer (Steak, Taters, And, Gravy) last Thursday night after the parade in the Coors tent. Thought he looked thin then. Few more nights of drinking Stag will take care of that.

== doing nothing but campaigning for 3 years is not hard work. ==
Actually, campaigning is hard work, little exercise, and all kinds of generally unhealthy food or just snacks because of skipped meals.
Seriously, whether intentional or not, the weight loss foes make him look stressed out.

sharkette - the only difference is Rauner uses his own money to buy the office, Madigan uses everyone else’s money.

This job and the way he works at it are clearly a long way from the cigar room at GTCR. Godspeed, Governor.
