Mrs. Rauner talks about Mrs. Madigan
Monday, Aug 28, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller
* Sneed on the relationship between Mrs. Madigan and Mrs. Rauner…
“Diana and Shirley are like night and day personality wise, but they have a wonderful relationship and talk and text all the time,” said a top Sneed source.
“They may be acquaintances by association, but they are good friends. I’m told Shirley sends Diana friendly emojis all the time.
“They were excited about taking a trip to Rome together to see the investiture of Cardinal Blase Cupich, but I’m told Mike Madigan canceled because he didn’t want to go with Bruce Rauner,” added the source.
“Shirley is a role model,” Diana told Sneed in an exclusive and rare interview Friday, shortly after the historic school-funding deal was reached after months of tug of war.
Mrs. Madigan almost always uses tons of emojis when she texts people. Also, I don’t think Speaker Madigan canceled that trip because of the governor. Anyone close to Mrs. Madigan would probably know why.
I asked Speaker Madigan’s press secretary if he’d care to comment on the story, but he declined, saying “I have no idea that it has any basis in fact.”
* Anyway, there’s more from Mrs. Rauner, so go read the whole thing…
“I consider my husband and I warriors for social justice, and we don’t always agree on the methods to get there.
“But we wouldn’t be married if we did not share the same motivations and values. But I will say this: He is driven to do the right thing, not just the easy thing, and he wants nothing but to do a good job and help the people of Illinois.”

I wonder if those texts and e-mails are similar to the phone calls and lunch conversations Rauner claims to have had with Madigan?/s

Great, more base problems for Rauner.
- Retired Educator - Monday, Aug 28, 17 @ 10:01 am:
Ms. Rauner, now would be a good time for him to get started doing the right thing. He has been on cruise control for over two years. Tell him it is time to shift gears, and do the peoples business.
- Norseman - Monday, Aug 28, 17 @ 10:04 am:
I couldn’t help but think if Diana invites Shirley to the same cocktail parties where they discuss Rauner’s messaging problems.
- slow down - Monday, Aug 28, 17 @ 10:04 am:
Warriors for social justice?
The complete lack of self-awareness is staggering for a Governor whose approach to governing is leveraging social services (and the vulnerable members of our state who rely on these services) to accomplish far right ideological goals. Incredible.
- wordslinger - Monday, Aug 28, 17 @ 10:06 am:
If you’re going to put yourself out there, then no complaining when you get criticism.
As a “social justice warrior,” what does Ms. Rauner think of the squeeze the beast tactic?
Deliberately running true social justice warriors out of business seems counter-intuitive to the cause.
Here we go again, “no social agenda,” trying to put a phony smiley face on Raunerism. I guess she’s the Illinois Ivanka.

It’s almost if they are trying to rehab Mrs. Rauner’s image after the last six weeks.

Wow. First Lady bringing out the big guns with the “SJW” reference. An interesting choice considering that’s mostly a dog whistle for the right and largely unused on the left.

- Amalia - Monday, Aug 28, 17 @ 10:17 am:
“warriors for social justice” yeah, if you think you can fool people with that language, forget it. unless you mean things like denying women agency, not caring about paying for social services, not caring about education funding. If social justice is some new right wing code, well ok then.

- Mr. K. - Monday, Aug 28, 17 @ 10:26 am:
I don’t think “warriors for social justice” means what you think it means, Diana.
The two of them — Bruce and Diane — are about as out of touch as they come. I’d love to hear the sparkling cocktail conversation at one of their Northshore parties.
Clearly, they are the spotlight. Or think they are. And, heck, Diana’s got a “brand” to maintain — so better get to it.
- wndycty - Monday, Aug 28, 17 @ 10:29 am:
Diana needs to hire Ivanka’s press people so that they can “leak” about how upset Social Justice Warrior Diana was when he vetoed the $15 minimum wage.

The “warriors for social justice” thing is such a weird thing to say unless their strategy for re-elect is to abandon. social/cultural conservatives.
This is entirely possible with the gay rights/immigration votes, but a departure from “no social agenda” for sure.
Also it is clear Diana does not see matters of economic justice as part of social justice.

- wndycty - Monday, Aug 28, 17 @ 10:50 am:
In using “warriors for social justice” is Diana aware that the more commonly used “social justice warriors” is mostly considered to be a pejorative?
“Social justice warrior” (commonly abbreviated SJW) is a pejorative term for an individual promoting socially progressive views, including feminism, civil rights, multiculturalism, and identity politics. The accusation of being an SJW carries implications of pursuing personal validation rather than any deep-seated conviction, and being engaged in disingenuous social justice arguments or activism to raise personal reputation, also known as virtue signalling.

- Oswego Willy - Monday, Aug 28, 17 @ 11:15 am:
Let’s be very crystal clear… Like the clearest of clear…
Diana Rauner is indeed trying to rehab… her brand… by dragging Mrs. Madigan into the discussion.
The irony, since Diana Rauner, herself, put millions into destroying Mike Madigan’s name… speaks volumes to the lowest of the low Diana Rauner will indeed go to save her outright phony brand.
Diana Rauner has been exposed as a fraud Democrat, donating millions, in her own name, not even close to the zeroes Diana Rauner has put to her own name supporting Democrats.
Diana Rauner is about Raunerism, even insinuating at the end, she supports The Ounce, but her family comes first.
Raunerism. The “brand” is first.
I don’t deny her passion, I do call out the phoniness of, in her own words, the brand needing a position to prop up her phony, but funding, supporting, obsessed with, and orchestrating Raunerism, including the IPI messaging, the messengers of IPI, and John Tillman.
See, if you want me to believe this rehab article, then ignore the Sneed article too…
… Sneedless to say, that won’t fly for me.
Diana Rauner is perplexed, it seems.
“Why do they not like what Bruce and I do? We need Winnetka cocktail parties to praise us.”
So, what does Diana Rauner do?
Diana Rauner turns to the messaging she obsessed with, with the IPI people she agrees with, and wants to win, not on better governing, she wants the Winnetka crowd to love the selling of the new messaging of the old plan… and embrace that Dians “brand” again.
Bruve needs the phony Diana brand, and it that means rehabbing Diana Rauner through the spouse of who she donated to vilify, then “Dial up Sneed”
I could be off, but I doubt it.
Why?
Diana Rauner praised JB Pritzker when the “brand” Diana needed to, but Diana the phony Democrat continues to be someone that supports the smearing of JB, because Raunerism is more important.
Diana Rauner tells us this in the article above…
===“I will never give up on my life’s work, although, I might add, there is nothing more important than my family.”===
Raunerism. Nothing is more important?
The 350+ emails make that all too clear.
Dems, do not be fooled. This has gone on far too long.
- Lawman - Monday, Aug 28, 17 @ 11:47 am:
It appears that what is left of the IPI comm staff is doing their best to paint the person responsible for hiring them in a favorable light. With this rebranding of Mrs. Rauner, they may get to keep their job for another week. /s
- wordslinger - Monday, Aug 28, 17 @ 12:04 pm:
Like “no social agenda” in 2014, “social justice warriors” is an effort to obfuscate Rauner’s reactionary agenda to hopefully keep Dem turnout down in 2018.
That is especially important now that Trump is president.
Kass’ screwball column over the weekend got it all wrong, shockingly. Rauner doesn’t need Trump voters to turn out as much as he needs Clinton voters to stay home.
2016 Clinton: 3.1 million votes
2014 Quinn. 1.7 million votes
Difference: 1.4 million votes
2016 Trump: 2.1 million votes
2014 Rauner: 1.8 million votes
Difference: 300,000 votes.
More than a million more potential Dem votes out there than GOP.
Running away from Trump makes a lot of sense.
Signing up IPI and Proft in conjunction with that strategy makes no sense at all.

My first reaction was snark–i want the WSJ/SJW Tshirt, w a pic of them in warrior garb. But the more i thought about it, the angrier i got. Diana, you dont give yourself that title, it is given to you by others. As i reread the quote, i realized she included her husband. Out. Rageous. Show me anything they have done that approaches fighting for social justice. Anything. I probably need to comb thru her emails. The tv ads will prob help clear it up.
- Langhorne - Monday, Aug 28, 17 @ 12:39 pm:
Restated–show me anything they have done for social justice sufficient to compensate for the damage they have caused.

- Winnin' - Monday, Aug 28, 17 @ 1:56 pm:
Diana, you might want to tell your husband that doing the — right thing — doesn’t mean demonizing others who are also trying to do the right thing.
One thing is for sure. The Rauners’ definition for the –right thing– has made their negatives pretty high. So, maybe they should consider dismounting from the high horse they’re on.

I am curious about the source of this story, and wondering who wanted it out there. If it was Sneed’s usual “insider” was Shirley Madigan told ahead of time that this would be revealed to Sneed? It’s not earth-shaking (until Diana’s weird comment), but slightly perplexing.
