He’s ba-ack! But there’s a glitch

* Here we go again…
Kay’s loss to Katie Stuart was the only real bright spot for Downstate Democrats last year.
* But, as I told subscribers earlier this week, the House Republican Organization is backing someone else…
Wendy Erhart, a Republican, on Wednesday plans to formally announce her campaign for state representative in the 112th House District. […]
Erhart is a strategic initiatives manager with a local community development lender. She has previously worked for banks, according to her LinkedIn page.
According to Erhart’s campaign, she graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1993. She lives in Maryville with her husband, Doug, and daughter, Katie, and is a board member of the Collinsville Food Pantry.
Erhart served 10 years as a board member with the Southwestern Illinois Leadership Council.
So, before he can get at Stuart, he has to defeat Erhart without HGOP support.

Special Kay

Kay is a real pain in the rear! He stirs up so many problems!
- John Rawlssss - Wednesday, Sep 13, 17 @ 4:10 pm:
Kay is a proven loser
- The Other Anonymous - Wednesday, Sep 13, 17 @ 4:14 pm:
The Representative in the 112th District is Katie Stuart. Not Stewart.
- The Captain - Wednesday, Sep 13, 17 @ 4:16 pm:
If his twitter account is to be believed Kay’s already been walking this summer. He’s a known entity and whatever his general election problems on women’s issues they may not be held against him as strongly by a Republican primary electorate, could make for a very interesting primary.

===Stuart. Not Stewart. ===
Fixed. Thanks!

Will Proft prop-up Kay and go head to head with the GOP choice, or is Wendy Erhart “acceptable” to Proft and this primary will be Kay vs. “everyone but Kay”
I honesty don’t know…

Be still, my heart…

My impression is that Proft tolerated Kay, but didnt care for him that much.
- Suburban Hillbilly - Wednesday, Sep 13, 17 @ 4:34 pm:
Want to know how dysfunctional the Republican Party has become? We are talking about whether a candidate needs to kiss the ring of Dan Proft to run for office.
- Honeybear - Wednesday, Sep 13, 17 @ 4:39 pm:
Wow, I’m not understanding Kays decision
Why would Rauners’ lap dog run?
Rauners failure will be an anchor around his neck.
There are very few Raunerites left in his district.
What Kay helped Rauner facilitate with
SIUE
Social services
The several thousand AFSCMEs in the Metro East
The trade unions
K-12
15billion in unpaid bills by Rauner
All the veto’s
OMG what an uphill battle he’s got.

If you want to weaken your own party, primary the hell out of it. Make way for the opposing party to come in. Works every time.
- Fax Machine - Wednesday, Sep 13, 17 @ 5:05 pm:
So does Madigan make calls to help support Dwight Kay in this primary?
The only way GOP doesnt take this seat back is if Kay wins the primary.
- Hola - Wednesday, Sep 13, 17 @ 8:52 pm:
Proft will be with Kay I’m told. Erhart is way too liberal for that crew. Kay was huge with business because of his role in workers comp legislation. I believe Erhart is pro-choice which will be hard to defend in a repub primary.
- Justin - Wednesday, Sep 13, 17 @ 10:58 pm:
I’m glad Katie Stuart’s in that seat instead of Dwight Kay and that the voters wised up in tossing him out in 2016 (in spite of Stuart’s party losing a lot in Southern Illinois in that election).
- Yellow Dog Democrat - Thursday, Sep 14, 17 @ 7:00 am:
I’ll bet Kay wins the primary.
But things are shaping up to be a catastrophic year for Republicans in the General Election.
