Dumped Biss running mate predicts big Latino boost for Kennedy
Friday, Sep 29, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller * I wouldn’t expect Kennedy to tout this because of the whole BDS thing, but kinda interesting…
First, however, Kennedy’s campaign needs to raise enough money to air that ad.

Maybe Kennedy will take the Rosa endorsement too?
- Franklin Delano Bluth - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 2:43 pm:
Does anyone else find it odd that Carlos Rosa thinks he can determine what other Latinx elected officials can/can’t do?
He’s become so self-important, which probably plays well in his extremely gentrified ward.
- Oswego Willy - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 2:48 pm:
Aw, to be so naive and lacking any modesty.
It’s adorbs.
- South of Sherman - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 2:49 pm:
So Chuy can do for Kennedy what he did for Sanders? Send him on his way to a second-place finish?
- walker - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 2:51 pm:
“”Chuy delivered the Chicagoland Latino vote to Sanders”"
Really?
- JJJJJJJJJJ - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 2:51 pm:
@Franklin Delano Bluth
Come on. Pretty sure it was just rhetoric to make his point about the power of Chuy’s endorsement. Hence the elaboration. Also technically he was addressing Pritzker and not Latinx officials.
- JJJJJJJJJJ - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 2:53 pm:
@Dupage Bard
I highly doubt you’ll see Kennedy accept a Rosa endorsement given the BDS stuff. Kennedy was on the board of trustees during the Salaita incident.
- Anonish - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 2:54 pm:
Maybe Chuy can deliver for Kennedy just as Chuy delivered for Chuy…
- Arsenal - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 2:58 pm:
Pritzker should stop rolling out Latinx endorsements after he gets the two biggest in the state? OK.
This has been today’s edition of “Who Actually Carries Lit For Kennedy?” Join us next week when he stops trying to organize the Latinx community and moves on to, I dunno, NASCAR Dads or something.
- A guy - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 3:01 pm:
Have a heavy chuckle at your own peril. Chuy’s followers are loyal and sincere.
He’s the best get for any of the candidates so far. I’m a little surprised Chris has him. Even more surprised he got him this early.
We’ll see if he moves enough votes, but he’s proven he can move ‘em.
- freeroam - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 3:07 pm:
Just so no one loses sight…Carlos is an anti-Semite. He promotes boycotting Israel but does not seek boycotts against any other nations in the world, particularly those nations in the Middle East whose human rights records include hanging dissenters from cranes in city squares and imprisoning and torturing critics of the government
- TopHatMonocle - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 3:14 pm:
Chuy absolutely helps deliver some votes to Kennedy. He was Bernie’s biggest endorser in the city and the only majority latino ward in Chicago that didn’t go for Sanders was the 15th ward. And while he lost the runoff to Rahm, he had some coattails for alderman candidates he endorsed in 2015. “Midas touch” might be a bit much but this is a big get for Kennedy, and it probably would have gone to Biss before the Rosa LG debacle.
- Latinx Chicago - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 3:18 pm:
Alderman Rosa must not forget that Congressman Gutierrez and other Latino Alderman are backing JB. The Bernie train has left, and most of the Bernie voters that came out last time will not be coming out this time. Also, many Latinos are against Chuy as he has sided with the political machine and voted in favor of the beverage tax! We will not forget your endorsement of Michael Madigan and your continuous votes that hurt our people! Vendido Chuy!

Rich, it’s clear you don’t like Ramirez-Rosa based upon you referring to him as “dumped Biss running mate.” Give the kid a break, he’s a rising star and progressive darling trying to make his way in a machine hack world. Someone should poll who has more name recognition and likeability among likely Cook County Democratic voters - Biss or Rosa. The Springfield bubble will be surprised to see that Rosa will beat Biss, but it’ll come as no surprise to those of us involved in Chicago politics.

===based upon you referring to him as “dumped Biss running mate.” ===
He was dumped. Stop whining. It’s unbecoming.
- Oswego Willy - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 3:31 pm:
===Give the kid a break, he’s a rising star and progressive darling trying to make his way in a machine hack world.===
LOL
Putting him so high, the fall will be harder and harder…
===Someone should poll who has more name recognition and likeability among likely Cook County Democratic voters - Biss or Rosa.===
Rosa is someone lucky to get picked, if Biss hadn’t picked him, no one would have. Capiche?
===The Springfield bubble will be surprised to see that Rosa will beat Biss, but it’ll come as no surprise to those of us involved in Chicago politics.===
Icarus had wax wings too…
- LatinoVoter - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 3:34 pm:
Some research: As a Bernie Sanders delegate, Rosa received the most votes of all the delegates in the 4th Congressional District, beating out every other Latino aldermen on the ballot. Gutierrez endorsed Rahm and Hillary, yet in both races the 4th CD went with Chuy and his pick. Just facts.

… and yet, after being dumped, no one is too quick to be close to him. Why is that?
The “attempted” humility has to be exhausting.
- Shytown - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 3:43 pm:
Oh Carlos, yes naive as OW adroitly points out. Chuy made an impact in one race, which was more about sending a message to his opponent than it was about him. I predict that there won’t be any Chuy coattails for Kennedy to ride in this race.
- The Muse - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 3:53 pm:
The Chuy ship has sailed. Rahm Emmanuel was in a terrible situation in 2015 but STILL won by more than 10 points. Chuy received a lot of his money from unions, and Pritzker has locked up most of the unions. How much outside money will Chuy bring in to the Kennedy campaign now that the union coffers are not opening?
- @MisterJayEm - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 4:00 pm:
The Chuy endorsement moves the floundering Kennedy campaign back into the ‘viable’ column.
No more, no less.

I’m curious Mr. Rosa, is it that the Palestinian cause is so important to you that it trumps what supposedly was your honest opinion as to who the best governor for the state would be (since surely you didn’t say that just because he picked you to be lt. guv), or are you just petty?
- Arsenal - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 4:07 pm:
==Pritzker has locked up most of the unions==
Not the public sector ones, though, and if they all line up behind Kennedy that could be a very big deal.
- The Muse - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 4:33 pm:
=if they all lined up behind Kennedy=
That’s a very big “if.”
- TKMH - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 4:44 pm:
Stopped caring after reading “Carlos Ramirez-Rosa.” Will continue to not care through his losing, vanity campaign for Mayor in 2019.
- Lester Holt's Mustache - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 4:45 pm:
=if they all lined up behind Kennedy=
They all lined up behind Quinn in 2014 general too, didn’t help a bit. Public union leadership can endorse who they like, doesn’t necessarily help you get actual votes. Might help more in Chicago, but most of the afscme employees in Springfield vote republican.
- Juvenal - Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 5:00 pm:
Seems like Rosa is going out of his way to take a dig at Mendoza, who supported Rahm over Chuy in 2015, of course.
I imagine the success of the Sanders/Putin ticket in the Latino community had much less to do with Chuy’s endorsement and much more to do with their ability to foment anger toward Obama and Clinton over the lack of progress on immigration reform after seven years.
