So, what’s up with those new Rauner ads?
Friday, Oct 13, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller * Hmm…
* We’ve already discussed a couple of them, but if you click here you can refresh your memory. Here’s a very short one apparently designed for social media…
Gov. Rauner doesn’t appear or talk in any of his ads, and his photo isn’t shown, either. They’re all very soft and super-positive. * Will Caskey offers an explanation… Back in 2006, Republican polling found that whenever Gov. Rod Blagojevich appeared in one of his ads his numbers would sag. Despite winning by 10 points (in a huge Democratic wave), he had lousy job approval ratings.

Who is @IllinoisWorking? Keep seeing them referenced here with no idea who they are or who’s behind them. Their website is really vague.
- Last Bull Moose - Friday, Oct 13, 17 @ 12:47 pm:
In our house even these soft ads bring up negative feelings. If Rauner were a player coach, he would bench himself.

Tough to beat an Illinois incumbent governor.
Candidate Bruce Rauner, 24/7/365 made it “Pat Quinn failed” and made Quinn the face of his campaign’s “Shake Up” and “Bring Back”
A real savvy campaign would continually have in their negative ads Bruce Rauner and remind people how terribly Bruce Rauner failed.
Right now Rauner is watching Dems squabble.
They should all agree Bruce Rauner fails more often.

If the goal is to bore voters into submission, an ad about school funding reform ought to do the trick.

Pritzker already does this, but they have all summer and fall to destroy our televisions with Rauner ads. They’re not going to run a general election campaign in the primary (with the exception of Pritzker, who has the money to run any 12 kinds of campaigns he wants all at the same time).

===They’re not going to run a general election campaign in the primary.===
If they can’t explain that the goal is to defeat Bruce Rauner, then that’s a campaign choice, I guess.
You’d think their own reasons to run and go thru a primary is because they disagree with Rauner. It’s a bit short sided to ignore where the differences exist with Rauner when those differences also clarify how they may be different than fellow Dems running and their solutions.

Wait, J.B. Pritzker is running against Governor Rauner? I thought he was running against Donald Trump. At least that’s what the TV told me.
- DuPage Bard - Friday, Oct 13, 17 @ 1:18 pm:
Failed Governor over and over and over. Agree with OW.
JB can run both types of ads. Strictly negative calling Bruce a failed lying Governor. Lying Ted Cruz
Give him the name that defines him, don’t let him define himself. Then pound the heck out of it and get people so used to hearing it that it becomes the norm and what they believe.

Internal polling is showing that Dem primary voters are more ginned up to defeat Trump in 2020 than Rauner 2018. In some areas, it’s more than 2 to 1. That’s obviously why JB is spending so much dough for TV ads taking on Trump. He’s looking to capture that Anti- Trump energy.

I’ll just stop you there.
Like I stated…
===A real savvy campaign would continually have in their negative ads Bruce Rauner and remind people how terribly Bruce Rauner failed===
They can do whatever they want. Rauner will be on the ballot in the end
Campaign(s) right now are touchy about polling.
I wouldn’t divulge such privileged information on internal polling.

Rauner claims he saves schools when we many know he is not the one who made it happen.
- Earnest - Friday, Oct 13, 17 @ 1:37 pm:
All I can see is that Bruce Rauner increased state spending and gave out tax credits while cutting nothing from the state budget. I get the concept, but he’s nowhere near as effective at distracting from his actions as he used to be.

“Perfidy”
In all fairness. To quote my old friend HB.

Not in a Democratic primary.

Good to know what OW would do.

===Not in a Democratic primary===
Quinn wasn’t on the GOP ballot 4 years ago, and yet, it was about Pat Quinn then and in the end.
===Good to know what OW would do.===
Then… if you’d like to refute the Kennedy 44%.., and Kennedy leading… you could too I guess.
Good to know what what you are doing.

Nearly 3 years in, and it finally seems to be dawning on Team Rauner the glaring flaw in the “Blame Madigan” strategy. He’s not running against Madigan. Who woulda thunk?

Interesting take by Will.
When does the pivot occur? You have to show your face some time.
