    Good grief!

  2. - We'll See - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 4:11 am:

    Who knew Ira would go all Trump with the “fake news” bit? Weak and sad.

  3. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 4:50 am:

    Yeah, Ira, that’ll work real well for you. Now we know how Rich Miller got so fabulously wealthy. Pitching dirt on creepy toe ring kissers.

  4. - Rabid - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 4:54 am:

    can’t keep a foot out of his mouth

  5. - LizPhairTax - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 5:28 am:

    Do you know what you wrote that prompted that? My understanding has been that you work for Speaker Madigan. Classic double dipping.

  6. - Not A 50th Ward Guy - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 5:55 am:

    I think I speak for all of your subscribers when I say, “It’s about damn time you wrote those Ira Lies we’ve been waiting so patiently for.” I was beginning to worry.

  7. - low level - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 6:03 am:

    Another big conspiracy I guess? Sheesh. I’d love to hear from Ira who or what entity is paying you to write lies about him…

    Never realized Silverstein had such an overinflated ego. He’s in Dunkin territory as far as that goes.

  8. - OneMan - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 6:09 am:

    So is there a rate card for lies about someone? Do I contact the advertising department for that service?

  9. - FormerParatrooper - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 6:15 am:

    Ira your picking the wrong fight. You didn’t even reference what was a “lie”. If you want to compare character, Rich has you beat.

  10. - Honeybear - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 6:28 am:

    Badge of honor Rich
    I’d say you have made an
    excellent
    contribution
    to exposing
    sexual harassment
    You did a great job

  11. - PublicServant - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 6:34 am:

    There are lies, damned lies, and Rich’s columns regarding politician’s perversions.

  12. - none01 - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 7:11 am:

    petty rich

  13. - The Springfield Deli - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 7:43 am:

    Ira’s posts are all bread and no salami.

  14. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 7:51 am:

    ===Bye, Felicia===

    Two words. The beauty of brevity. Says it all.

  15. - Blue dog dem - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 7:57 am:

    Whos this Rich Miller?

  16. - Responsa - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:01 am:

    From the Sun Times article:
    ==Madigan said complaints about sexual harassment were made to ethics officers in the past. Those officers serve purely as advisers. Those complaints were taken to the chair of the Legislative Ethics Commission, who could then take it to the full commission.

    Typically complaints can go to the commission, which could then choose to follow up with the Legislative Inspector General’s office, which can then conduct an investigation and recommend actions to the committee. Harassment could also be reported directly to the inspector general’s office, although the state hasn’t had an acting inspector general since 2015.==

    What a joke. On those being harassed. Reading these paragraphs about the so called “process” to get something done all I can think of is “…and a partridge in a pear tree”.

  17. - Macbeth - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:09 am:

    What Silverstein doesn’t realize is that cracking wise like this makes him look even guiltier than he already is (or may be).

    What’s next — a crack about “context” and how the transcripts don’t tell the whole story?

    I gotta say, though, that this story has “creepy” written all over it.

  18. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:19 am:

    ===From a Sen. Ira Silverstein Facebook message … on November 21, 2016 at 10:48pm CST…===

    “November 21, 2016 at 10:48pm CST…”

    Context.

  19. - Peorgie Tirebiter - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:26 am:

    Did this guy hire Baghdad Bob to handle his PR?

  20. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:29 am:

    “Context”. Agree. Was he typing one-handed?

  21. - Responsa - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:30 am:

    ==Did this guy hire Baghdad Bob to handle his PR?
    ==

    I don’t think he is even aware he *needs* PR.

  22. - the Patriot - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:32 am:

    I can’t locate the “click here to pay Rich to write lies button.”

  23. - Springfieldish - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:34 am:

    I’m not sure the context would help Silverstein, but it would be interesting to see. In fact, it would be interesting to see the entire exchange between them. Could the names of other individuals be redacted? Would we see the development of a victim or Coquette?

  24. - VanillaMan - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:38 am:

    You’re paid to lie?
    Do you charge per lie or per targeted individual?

    How much lying can you do and still remain a credible source of information?

  25. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:40 am:

    The context does NOT help in any way.

    The context is it appears to be a long held (at least a year) belief by him.

    Rich responded perfectly and in brief.

  26. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:42 am:

    == Bye, Felicia ==

    I’m not as quick or as plugged-in as Willy. Don’t get it. Someone help me, please.

  27. - OneMan - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:43 am:

    So Rich how much would this set me back…

    The ladies loved OneMan’s brilliant tax plan. That and the fact that he had a musky Victor Mature-like scent. no. OneMan was definitely not a geek with a crooked smile. He was a babe magnet. Did I mention how much the ladies love me, I mean him?

  28. - Anon221 - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:44 am:

    Anonymous @ 8:42- Google is your friend.

  29. - Anon221 - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:48 am:

    Rich- Does Silverstein’s 2016 victimhood stem from his past “Shenanigans”?

  30. - Jack Kemp - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:49 am:

    Rabid has already won comment of the day, and it’s only a quarter til 9.

    But yeah, I too am curious as to what this was about.. I can’t think of many times that Silverstein has been mentioned on the blog. Especially negatively.

    So he’s done by this afternoon right? Friday at the latest.

  31. - I need a bill - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:50 am:

    So I read this article in the Trib,….. I need a bill
    Bull in 1, 2, 3 ,…

  32. - Ron Burgundy - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:50 am:

    –Two words. The beauty of brevity. Says it all.–

    Another of his two word catch phrases that starts with a B would have also worked.

  33. - Stark - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:51 am:

    I bet Ira Silverstein also puts the cereal in the bowl before adding the milk. What a genuinely weird guy - because he isn’t close to being a man.

  34. - A guy - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 8:59 am:

    Gee Rich, hate to see you lose such a valuable relationship.

    Can’t the two of ‘ya just go out and patch it up over a bowl of ice cream?

  35. - Dr. Bronners - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 9:26 am:

    Are Rich and by extension Willy insinuating that Silverstein is on drugs or are they just culturally appropiating a phrase that they know nothing about without googling it?

    Id guess the latter.

  36. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 9:29 am:

    ===culturally appropiating===

    From a movie?

  37. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 9:32 am:

    ===From a movie?===

    That’s my question.

  38. - Curl of the Burl - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 9:37 am:

    “Dr.” - seriously? One of the most quoted lines from one of the most popular movies from the last 25 years is “cultural appropriation”? Okay…

  39. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 9:37 am:

    ==Never realized Silverstein had such an overinflated ego. ==

    So you’ve obviously never met the man in person.

  40. - Dr. Bronners - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 9:38 am:

    ===From a movie?===
    ===Thats my question===

    Yes, from a movie. Those responses lets me know that a) you dont really know the movie and b) you dont know the significance of the movie at the time it was released or the cultural significance of the movie to African Americans. Appropiate away guys lol.

  41. - Ron Burgundy - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 9:40 am:

    I guess I will refrain from quoting House Party or Key and Peele here too then. Alrighty.

  42. - Donnie - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 9:43 am:

    Well it’s good to know what hair product Ira Silverstein uses, “Dr Bronners”

  43. - Dr. Bronners - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 9:43 am:

    ===“Dr.” - seriously? One of the most quoted lines from one of the most popular movies from the last 25 years is “cultural appropriation”? Okay…===

    Ok, and to boot if you knew the origin of the phrase it is totally tone def because its rooted in sexual harassment but yeah you sure do know your stuff.

  44. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 9:45 am:

    ===it is totally tone def because its rooted in sexual harassment===

    Which is why I wouldn’t use it against a woman. It’s used here with fully intended irony.

  45. - Dr. Bronners - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 9:55 am:

    ===Which is why I wouldn’t use it against a woman. It’s used here with fully intended irony===

    So now we are being ironic about sexual harassment? Are you suggesting its ok to sexually harass a guy?

    Im just messing with you Rich, have a good one lol

  46. - Loop Lady - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 9:57 am:

    If Silverstein has not been raked over the coals by Cullerton, the Presidents office is complicit in this instance.

    A few years back in the Blago book, I recall a hush hush action of a newly elected Senator who got overly friendly with his legislative secretary. She was transferred out of the Statehouse, and I am betting there were no repercussions for the perp…

    Just saying…

  47. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 9:59 am:

    ===Im just messing with you… ===

    Don’t include me in your messing.

    Thanks.

  48. - Dr. Bronners - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 10:05 am:

    ===Don’t include me in your messing.===

    dont be messy then

  49. - Chris Widger - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 10:05 am:

    To be clear, I summarily dismiss the argument. I’m just pointing out that this is a real thing which a lot of ink has been spilled over, and not the made-up trolling of a CapFax commentator.

  50. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 10:06 am:

    Trolls are gonna troll.

    Good luck.

  51. - Phil King - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 10:07 am:

    Cultural appropriation isn’t a thing that exists.

    Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

    America is a melting pot.

    We should cheer, not demonize, multi-cultural exchange.

  52. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 10:10 am:

    Does it pay well?

  53. - Boone's is Back - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 10:12 am:

    ===Bye, Felicia.===

    Ruh Roh.

  54. - Dr. Bronners - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 10:16 am:

    ===Does it pay well?===

    It does if youre doing it on the states dime lol

  55. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 10:19 am:

    –It does if youre doing it on the states dime lol–

    Which Miller is not. If you don’t get the gag to begin with, you really can’t add to it.

  56. - Dr. Bronners - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 10:22 am:

    ===Which Miller is not. If you don’t get the gag to begin with, you really can’t add to it.===

    Who said anything about rich? Im just here because i was instructed to communicate more with my coworkers lol

  57. - Sue - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 10:28 am:

    If Cullerton continues to drag out an investigation rather then confronting a member of his majority then he has no business continuing as president. Here we have written evidence of borish behavior and all Cullerton does is avoid responsibility. Every woman in the Caucasus should ask for his office to actively investigate this and upon conclusion if the allegations are found true to force Silverstein to resign

  58. - Dog lover - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 10:43 am:

    If you want to get out of that deep hole you’re in, stop digging.

  59. - Wumpus - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 10:50 am:

    Its from the Movie Friday. Bye Felicia is used against men and women. Not sure what the big deal is with Rich using it. My head hurts

  60. - Curl of the Burl - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 10:54 am:

    Wumpus - my head hurts a lot these days.

  61. - Amalia - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 11:14 am:

    Ira, how’s your marriage? Cause if my mate wrote those things to another person on facebook which you did with a woman, that’s the Bye Felicia you would really have to worry about.

  62. - AFSCME Steward (now retired) - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 11:15 am:

    “I don’t think he is even aware he *needs* PR.”

    When you constantly run for re-election unopposed, who needs PR.

  63. - Cool Papa Bell - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 12:06 pm:

    “Ice Cube discussed the ongoing popularity of the phrase in an interview with Conan O’Brien, stating, “That is the phrase to get anybody out of your face that’s saying something stupid.”

  64. - Sue - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 2:10 pm:

    Rich- do you think Cullerton might be more concerned if Silverstein had an R in front of his name. This stinks

  65. - IMissBentohs - Wednesday, Nov 1, 17 @ 3:07 pm:
