Can’t buy me love, everybody tells me so

Monday, Mar 19, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller

* JB has the Sun-Times pretty well covered today

* He’s not spending as much on the Tribune’s site, though. Wonder why

…Adding… From a pal: “I just got the full JB on the Trib’s website”…

* The only time I ever see a Sharon Fairley ad is when I’m online

* No political love for the Joliet Herald-News

I’ll pass, thanks. A lobotomy might do me some good right now, though.

* But there’s Fairley again in the Southern, under the massive Brain and Spine Institute ad

* This calls for a song

I disagree, Rich. “A vasectomy in March is the easiest layup of the year” is pretty much how I feel regarding this primary.

  2. - South of I-80 - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 1:55 pm:

    Nice song choice Rich!

  3. - Chicago Cynic - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 1:56 pm:

“A vasectomy in March is the easiest layup of the year” is easily the most bizarre ad copy I’ve seen in a long time. Boy, I’ll keep that in mind.

I’ve long heard of guys scheduling such procedures this time of year so they can spend a few days on the couch with a beer, some snacks and a bag of frozen peas.

  5. - Soccermom - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:01 pm:

To be fair, Sharon does have both a brain and a spine.

—-they can spend a few days on the couch with a beer, some snacks and a bag of frozen peas.

I was only down for a day. Then again, perhaps they are smarter by drawing it out longer.

  7. - JB13 - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:07 pm:

There really is no escape. JBP even invaded the safe space of my morning glance at the weather forecast. Thanks, Accuweather!

  8. - wordslinger - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:08 pm:

I think a more accurate b-ball analogy for a vasectomy is a blocked shot.

  9. - Nishi - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:09 pm:

I see Fairley and Goldstein ads all over Facebook.

  10. - Ok - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:11 pm:

You do realize these ads are all tracked to your search and browsing history, right Rich?

    ===I think a more accurate b-ball analogy for a vasectomy is a blocked shot.===

    Zing.

I was trying to come up with a Sports Clips joke, but couldn’t find a way to keep it within the confines of a family blog.

  12. - Keyrock - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:21 pm:

I’ve seen Fairley ads all the time on the cable here in the north suburbs.

  13. - Streator Curmudgeon - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:23 pm:

Rich, I believe it was Groucho who said, “I’d rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.”

  14. - Perrid - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:25 pm:

@OK, some are some aren’t. Without knowing how any of the papers farm out the ads for the site, what technology they use, we can’t say for sure how it’s done.

  15. - Anonymous - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:46 pm:

–You do realize these ads are all tracked to your search and browsing history, right Rich?–

The reason you see an ad could be for a number of reasons one being browser history (cookie based) or it could be based on the IP address (your wifi) or device id (cell phones). There are 4 main data companies or DMPs that have all the data on everyone in the US. Those are pipes everyone uses for digital ads.

The sun-times above-the-fold ad is not based on cookies/search history. it is a site-wide buy negotiated w/ publisher outside ad exchange.

I have come to the conclusion Billionaires don’t govern well.

  17. - LTSW - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:57 pm:

Heard my first ad for Sharon Fairly on Springfield radio this morning.

Might be TMI, but I did just that 16 years ago St Patrick weekend.

I know this isn’t the place for detailed discussion, but they have a no-scalpel option now?

    ‘Murica.

As long as you don’t look like JB–or me for that matter. Fat guys still get a lot of pain.
