Sometimes, you just gotta laugh at this stuff or you’ll cry
Monday, Mar 19, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller * I told you Sunday that Speaker Madigan’s 13th Ward Organization reported receiving $55,400 from the Teamsters’ DRIVE committee on Saturday. The 13th Ward got $55,400 from the pipe trades earlier this year. He’s apparently spending some of that money to convince voters that this guy will be an independent judge…
Hilarious. “He’s independent!” says the 13th Ward. Independent of… what? Cunningham reported about $2,500 from Madigan’s ward earlier in the year for mailers. * And here’s a mailer sent by Cunningham which may look to the casual observer that he’s been endorsed by the Chicago Tribune… The Trib did endorse Hagerty, but took a pass on Cunningham.

This state is only a partial-democracy, in-part because of its judiciary. Why not cry?
- Keyrock - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 9:35 am:
Well, many of the organization’s judges have been independent of the facts and the law.

…”so as OUR judge, he’ll be the INDEPENDENT judge we need”.
Just let that sentence sink in. Oy.
- South Side Pride - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 10:40 am:
Vote Judge Patrick Thomas Stanton!

If Rauner authored the Cunningham mailer we would have read how “Madiganly” difficult it is to remove judges once elected.

I’ve known Kevin for a long time -he’s a solid lawyer, a good guy and will be a good judge. Hope he wins.
- Chicagoan - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 12:59 pm:
Seconding paddyrollingstone above- Kevin is a great guy and will make a great judge. This is his second time running and first time slated. He has been pounding the pavement and running a lean and clean campaign. He has my vote!
- 19th_Ward_Jones - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:35 pm:
It’s easy to run a lean campaign when Madigan is paying for your mailers.
- Long TIme 19th Ward Resident - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 5:59 pm:
Both were evaluated by the Illinois Supreme Court - Stanton was chosen over Cunningham - no political agenda, no payback, just best qualified -and he has been a judge now for over a year. Why let Madigan determine our court system, too!
- mama - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 6:31 pm:
Cunningham is not on the ballot. He is a write- in.
- West Side the Best Side - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 7:59 pm:
Cunningham is on the ballot only in the 3d Judicial Subcircuit. Hopefully he is not responsible for the 13th Ward piece since it would violate Supreme Court Rules regarding judicial candidates taking positions on issues that might come before them.
- IndependentVoter - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 8:09 pm:
Judge Pat Stanton has my vote - he is by far the most qualified and HONEST candidate on the ballot.
