- 618Dem - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:28 pm:
Low turnout in Richland, tracking for less than 20% Look for Reis to go down to Bailey and Ives to win in Richland.
- Real - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:31 pm:
Looks like a low republican turnout. Could be why Rauner is sending out multiple emails.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:31 pm:
Oddly since noon out in Kendall…
Ives/Harold signs pairing up.
- Nick - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:33 pm:
Politico has a story that if Republican turnout is less than 550K that could be a bad night for Rauner. If its over 600K good night.
Would we say thats fair, numbers wise? Low turnout benefiting Ives makes sense for sure. Probably why Rauner’s sent out so many GOTV emails.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:33 pm:
My early evening update.
Tom Cross finished his round of golf. He was pleased, it’s early in the season.
Tom told me to leave him alone.
This ends my early evening update.
- Iron - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:34 pm:
It snowed today in southern Illinois. First day of spring. Blame it on Madigan.
- JoanP - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:37 pm:
Chicago, Hyde Park, 5th Ward.
Two precincts vote at my polling place.
At 3:00 this afternoon, when I thought I would breeze in and out, there were lines for both (though, as usual, the other precinct’s was longer). I was #148 in my precinct. One of the judges told me it was a busy day.
Quite a few people were handing out palm cards, such as the Democrats for Change, and the Black Voters Project. We have some referenda on the ballot of the “feel good” sort (i.e. not binding) and the proponents of the Rent Control referendum were out (and, sheesh, talk about slanted wording).
- Ducky LaMoore - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:38 pm:
Oh my gosh, my mother-in-law voted for Ives. She was truly the last Rauner holdout in my sphere.
- 32nd Ward Roscoe Village - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:38 pm:
Forgive me if this was already mentioned elsewhere, but I just heard that Kwame’s numbers from yesterday were showing a surge or a bump for him. Will it be enough?
- Touré's Latte - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:39 pm:
Was in Downers Grove, stopped in after lunch Village Hall @ 1:30pm 118 R, 168 D, judges said turnout so-so. I thought Downers Grove was GOP land?
- illini - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:40 pm:
I voted around noon at my downstate heavily Republican precinct ( #99 out of 498 ). I noticed 4 signs for a State Senate Candidate located on Village property outside the polling place. None of the election workers were aware of the fact that they were placed after they opened at 6. A call to our County Clerk revealed that this had been reported at 7 other precincts in the county and they were told to remove them immediately.
And, by the way, I have received 6 emails today from the Rauner campaign and I have never ever pulled a Republican ballot in my life.
- QC Dude - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:40 pm:
Early vote in Rock Island Co. was high approx. 4300, 3 Dems to 1 GOP.
Voting @ polls today is decent for a primary. A lot of Ives signs showed up overnight which is unusual out here.
- mst - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:43 pm:
In VoDG about same time got exact same numbers. Yeh, DG is supposedly lean R, but…
- No Longer A Lurker - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:45 pm:
Hoffman Estates, 50th precinct
2 precincts vote at this location.
Numerous signs out front of the polling location. 5 or 6 for Ives none for Bruce. This is Tom Morrison’s state reps district and he supported Ives for governor. There were a hand full of people coming in and out of the location just after 3pm. I asked the judges how the day was going and they didn’t really have much to say.
- SignsVote - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:48 pm:
Low turnout in Kane and DuPage. Those who are voting are Ives fanatics. All of my Republican connections say Ives has this race wrapped up.
- BlueDogDem - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:50 pm:
My friends at the county clerks office report abysmal turnout. Particularly GOP. Ives may pull this one out.
- BlueDogDem - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:51 pm:
….wishful thinking. I think in the end we will be reminded of the power of incumbency.
- Humbldt - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:53 pm:
definitely signs>voters when i cast my ballot around 12:30pm today in Humboldt Park. Really surprised turnout is so low as we’ve had what appears to be a fairly competitive race for State Rep.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:55 pm:
Maybe the sirens are for Rauner’s pants on fire?
Rauner is neither a Republican or a conservative.
lol
- Former Merit Comp - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:55 pm:
Just returned from voting in McDonough County. Middle of the afternoon and I had to wait in line. Everyone in front of me was pulling republican ballots. State representative and sheriff race here probably the draw (Hammond’s district)
- Soapbox Derby - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:55 pm:
Rutherford still in last place in GOP Primary….
- wordslinger - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:55 pm:
I think that Rauner robocall is officially the panic button. They cut that on the fly.
- Real - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:56 pm:
I predicted yesterday and today an Ive’s win with Rauner at 39.5% at most. I think I’m right.
- Ron - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:09 pm:
OW, that’s why I like Rauner.
- JohnnyPyleDriver - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:12 pm:
In my precinct downstate:
Republican turnout is at the March 2014 level, will surpass
Dem turnout is already double the March 2014 level
- Fav human - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:15 pm:
If both Ives and Lipinski pull it out then pro-life will finally have shown some fangs in IL.
Of course that’s what they will say…
- Real - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:17 pm:
Ron
Thank God the majority don’t like Rauner.
- Ron - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:19 pm:
At least IVes has 0% chance of being governor.
- Smooth Operator - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:21 pm:
The Paul Simon Poll had this so far out of reach for Rauner that no one polled this. Only Ives poll which shows a -7. Today we find out Rauner’s internal has her at -12, still way different that the Simon Poll. Apparently Rauner is nervous so they must see something similar to Ives result. But here is the interesting thing, I can’t find anybody supporting Rauner, except for some interns with ridiculous canned quotes on his website. Other than Morrison in Cook, who is engaged in supporting Rauner? Weird year. Rauner may be competitive, but not JB. What a switcheroo.
- Past the Rule of 85 - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:23 pm:
Voted at 3:30. Two precincts with combined 1,600 voters in one voting location. I was number 249. 16% have voted in an area that is heavily Republican.
- Past the Rule of 85 - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:27 pm:
Ron @ 4:19 “At least Ives has 0% chance of being governor.”
That’s what they said about Trump.
- don the legend - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:28 pm:
OW. Do you have a Dad’s Home State episode in the can if Rauner loses tonight?
- Rural Stuff - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:29 pm:
618Dem
You may be right. Heard a lot of complaints this morning about Reis’ latest Facebook post on Bailey and his supposed tax increase as a school board member. These are people who would have been in his camp normally. Will be an interesting evening.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:30 pm:
- don the legend -
Two episodes are ready, in the can….
- Anon - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:32 pm:
that Rauner robs call sounds like Rauner’s voice, slowed down and distorted a bit.
- Angry Chicagoan - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:35 pm:
No line and no other voters at my poll in Chicago’s 11th Ward. I suspect GOP turnout in the city will be low because of stuff like the Cook County assessor’s race not having any GOP candidates.
- Wondering Aloud - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:38 pm:
I had a member of my staff who recently relocated from California (we all still ask him why) and voted for the first time in Illinois today. Best line I’ve heard in a while: “How can there only be seven candidates out of 31 races?” Welcome to Illinois!
- Arthur Andersen - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:40 pm:
At my six-precinct mega polling place in SW SPI, turnout has been reported to be brisk all day. No lines at 3:30, just steady. That’s typical for statewides. Lotta State workers/retirees out there.
- Anon1888 - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:41 pm:
I find it absolutely hilarious that Rauner has a last second ad blasting Jeanne Ives and “last second ads”. I wonder how much “Citizens for Rauner” paid for it, it runs every 10 minutes on channel 20
- Anonymous - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:48 pm:
The end of the two party system in Illinois if Ives wins. Probably the end of it either way but certainly if she wins. I’ve never voted for anyone other than a Republican in my life (almost four decades of voting) and I wouldn’t vote for that lunatic and her ilk for all the money in the world.
- train111 - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:55 pm:
Winfield #41 ( far westeen DuPage)
At 6:00am was in line (5 people) at opening. 2 more walked in as I voted. 3 precincts at location.
Job wouldn’t allow me to report earlier.
- Anonymous - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:55 pm:
I’ve never seen so many signs as on King Boulevard in Bronzeville (southside Chi). But signs don’t vote. I saw three guys with blue Tshirts that said don’t vote for sell out Dunkin. There are certainly no lines to vote in my corner of the world, in the middle of Illinois 3rd Congressional District.
- Old Time R - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 4:58 pm:
Well Rauner wanted to keep turnout down that’s why they didn’t recruit viable candidates for state wide offices how ironic is that. If he loses and without Ives on top of ticket and no financial support this will for sure be the end of the Republican Party in Illinois for decades
- Yellow Dog Democrat - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 5:07 pm:
GOP turnout low in 42nd Ward.
This is a must-win ward for Rauner. He carried it easily in the 2014 primary and Rauner beat Quinn there in 2014.
Heck, one of his nine homes is here.
- Lyons Township Lurker - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 5:15 pm:
Suburban women definitely turned out in La Grange today. Polls have been slow, but many voted early. Strong sign presence from Erika Harold, Jim Durkin, and Mickey Straub.
- Anonymous - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 5:16 pm:
35th ward. This precinct on about 20%, which is high for the city I think. 5 Republican ballots thus far. Surprise, Logan Square fans of neither Rauner or Ives.
- Anon - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 5:17 pm:
Lisle township 50. I was voter 460 at 4pm. All six stations were in use with four waiting ahead of me. More people than usual. The couple in front of me took Democratic ballots.
- Henry Francis - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 5:19 pm:
Hey, anyone hear whether McCann voted today?
- TinyDancer(FKASue) - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 5:34 pm:
How do you know your voting number?
I’ve never been given a number when I vote.
- Union Thug Gramma - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 5:39 pm:
I voted in Downers Grove, precinct 3, there were 551 votes cast before me and at least 20 people waiting to vote.
- HeraC - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 5:45 pm:
Tiny, when you feed your paper ballot into the box it increments a counter that’s displayed.
Not sure for electronic ballots.
- Y'all Paul Pct 12 ward 23 - #426 standing online for 20 minutes heavy turnout . I think most appear for lipinski. - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 5:52 pm:

“Dad’s Home State” location scouts are at the ready at O’Hare with destinations of Rome and Milan…
- RNUG - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 5:59 pm:
I’ve probably had a total of 8 GOTV calls from the Rauner and Ives campaign today. They are definitely working it hard.
- Ole' Nelson - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 5:59 pm:
OW, that sounds like the best episode yet.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 6:00 pm:
- Ole’ Nelson -
We’re pretty excited, but HBO is balking at some of the cost. We budgeted for Bruce and Diana to win
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 6:07 pm:
No push being seen of felt in Kendall.
Uncontrolled voting, no idea if their anyone’s pluses
- Ron - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 6:08 pm:
Someone remind me how well Trump did in Illinois?
- wordslinger - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 6:11 pm:
–Someone remind me how well Trump did in Illinois?–
He won the GOP primary. Not like your guy Putin did last night, but a win’s a win.
- TinyDancer(FKASue) - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 6:18 pm:
@HeraC
Thanks - never noticed - will pay attention next time.
- 60661 - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 6:18 pm:
42nd ward, voter #145. Felt like less people that usual
- Anonymous - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 6:19 pm:
How about the general?
- RNUG - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 6:20 pm:
That siren robocall is super aggravating.
- Blue dog dem - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 6:23 pm:
Ron. I know you like economic freedom. How is it you can support Rauner.and his $500,000,000 tax giveaways to a few priveledged few with DCEO and intersect illinois? Isnt that cronyism?
- wordslinger - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 6:25 pm:
–That siren robocall is super aggravating.–
It didn’t make you want to rush out and vote for Rauner?
Shocking. Most people react positively to shouting and screaming sirens on their home phone.
- Amalia - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 6:32 pm:
Abreu day to day with a tight hamstring. worst news of the day yet.
- DuPage Dave - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 6:56 pm:
My crystal ball says that Ives comes close but Rauner wins. A big day for JB and Raoul.
