I will never understand why these games are scheduled for April in Chicago.
Bad for players, fans, employees at park. Total waste. Sox could be in Tampa and probably draw more sox fans there.
Sox trolling the Cubs… welcome to Chicago baseball.
Once on a cold opening day I was told that about the cold
“Sure, the bat stings when you hit, you freeze in the field, but do you want to catch a guy throwing 90mph plus on a cold day? How about hitting with a pitcher who can’t feel his fingers and can’t control the baseball”
Gosh Bruce Rondon was a beast in his first appearance. 4 batters, 4 strikeouts. I really think they botched the bullpen when they started the year. Both Rondon and Gomez should be there. And they never should have brought back Farq. Should have stuck with Alburqueque.
The Sod Father used a new technique today. He lowered the grass mower height to 1/4 ” and used the mowers to take the snow from the field. Roger Bossard is the best in the biz.
Cubs had tomorrow off, so it was easy to reschedule. Tampa’s lone trip to Chicago is M-W, so they’re trying like hell not to reschedule around the All-Star break for one game.
Actual Sox just tweeted Brossard’s technique - he used water. …”he cleared the snow with water - the water is 48-50 degrees so if it is done in 20 minute increments it works”
Also love that Bossard gave the Cubs a break (I would not have) stating that their groundskeeper is a good young guy and that they had another inch of snow so they made the right call. Bossard is a terrific mind for baseball, having rehabbed so many MLB fields, including Cubs.

Pathetic. Really disappointed in the Cubs. Was absolutely prepared to get out there and freeze my butt off. Weather is fine. Wusses.

I’m afraid you’ll have about the same number of people at both parks this afternoon.
I wouldn’t pay a dime to sit front-row behind home plate to watch the ‘27 Yanks in this weather.

Lots of ways to get hurt on cold baseball days.

I’m taking the train up from Springfield this weekend to go to a Cubs game on Sunday. Current forecast is 40 and cloudy. Fingers crossed it changes.

It’s still snowing on the north side.
- SaulGoodman - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 1:09 pm:
Meh. This isn’t baseball weather. No one should be playing. It’s dangerous and stupid.
Also - it’s still snowing on the north side.

Young Mr. Ohtani in LA is off to a very intriguing start.
Two turns on the bump, two wins, 13 innings pitched, 18Ks, two walks, three earned runs.
Also, 19 plate appearances, seven hits, one walk, three taters, 7 RBI, .389 BA.
Can he be a starting pitcher and take starts in the outfield all year? Going to be fun to find out.
- Ducky LaMoore - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 1:13 pm:
@Word
He did sign with an American League team for a reason. You will see him at DH quite a bit as the year goes on.

Day off, again, helps Rizzo’s back without losing a game… that’s good for the club.
- 47th Ward - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 1:20 pm:
On the north side, 40,000 people have to make new plans.
On the south side, they cleared the snow from the field, but not the seats, because no one was planning to use them.

There’s a couple of chances at the end of the week for Red Line Specials”… Cubs day, Sox night.
You could warm up on the El…

My bad, misread the schedule.
Still, find a “Red Line Special” and just go.
- Rahm’s Middle Finger - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 1:34 pm:
I mean, the Sox only have like 300 people to accommodate, the Cubs were expecting 40,000.

I’ll be impressed when Ohtani can pitch hit and lay down a bunt as good as Lester.

I read it was an LA thing. Texas and Seattle offered more money.

Not so much, I imagine, for those who blew off work today and burned through half their beer money by 11 a.m. in the bars.

Hey, it could have been worse. Remember April, 1975? 10″ of snow, O’Hare closed, people died. This was a relative dusting.
- Bogey Golfer - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 2:22 pm:
@Word. I meant Pittsburgh is here through Thursday. Same hotel stay, same flight to next town.

The Cubs’ decision to postpone was made after Heyward struck out on three pitches with a 15 in. snowball in batting practice.

XRT at Yakzies.

Even this Cubs fan doffs his cap at Yadi Molina. That was fun to see the DBags manager back down so quickly.

Today just proved that the Cubs are afraid of the red-hot Pittsburgh Pirates.
