The Rauner campaign in a nutshell
Tuesday, Jun 5, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller
* Gov. Rauner did another softball interview with WGN’s Steve Cochran and was asked about his new TV ads…
The truth about Pritzker has got to be known by the people of Illinois. Pritzker is a corrupt insider. He’s been part of the problem in Springfield for many, many years. He was tight with Blagojevich, he’s tight with Madigan. He funded each of them in their political shenanigans. And Pritzker, unfortunately is a tax dodger, to use a nice term for it. Inherited billions, hides the money in the Bahamas so he doesn’t pay his proper income taxes. Has used Madigan’s law firm to cheat his property taxes in Chicago. Ripped the toilets out of his mansion so he doesn’t pay the proper property taxes on his homes in Chicago. He’s a corrupt, self-dealing insider. He’s part of the problem and we’ve got to get the truth about him known.

Sounds about right.

Governor, how did your daughter get into Payton Prep?
Exactly.

Diana Rauner, thoughts?
===“…We are so grateful to the J.B. and M.K. Pritzker Family Foundation for sharing our belief in these innovations,” said Diana Rauner, president of the Ounce of Prevention Fund. “By developing strong leaders and programs, empowering parents and strengthening early learning systems, together we can change lives for children and families.”===
Why would Diana Rauner and The Ounce work with JB Pritzker, and why would Diana Rauner sign off on the millions Bruce will spend to denigrate someone Diana and The Ounce speak so glowingly and appreciatively?
- Sugar Corn - Tuesday, Jun 5, 18 @ 2:33 pm:
Rauner made a lot of GTCR money off of state pension funds.
Ask Stu Levine about it. Remember him?
- Lucky Pierre - Tuesday, Jun 5, 18 @ 2:33 pm:
That is exactly what the 16% of Illinois residents who blame Rauner exclusively for the budget impasse think about when JB Prtizker’s name comes up- Diana Rauner
Normal people? Not so much

Rauner has money in the Caymans.
- 47th Ward - Tuesday, Jun 5, 18 @ 2:39 pm:
Eleven sentences that we’ll be hearing on continuous loop for the next five months. Every time Bruce Rauner opens his mouth, expect to hear some variation of these eleven sentences and nothing else.
Nutshell indeed. Talk about telegraphing it. Lol. Rauner should have this paragraph printed on tee-shirts.

Says the man who admitted in the Hoover Institution interview that a budget for Illinois was only a “sideline” to greater things (RTW and Janus).

===JB Prtizker’s name comes up- Diana Rauner===
I’m just thinking our loud, “Lucky Pierre”
When Bruce Rauner was refusing to pay social services, and Diana Rauner said that suing Bruce’s Administration was a business decision, not really taking a side with social service organizations, not unlike The Ounce, that needed those contracts honored.
Enter JB Pritzker and the Pritzker Family Foundations, donating $5 million to The Ounce when other social services were closing shop.
Maybe Bruce made things so bad, Diana *had* to accept in her role as president, the $5 million from such a corrupt person like JB Pritzker. I wonder if they all knew how despicable JB Pritzker was, when they wrote that release with the glowing quote. Makes one wonder…
- Sugar Corn - Tuesday, Jun 5, 18 @ 2:48 pm:
Remember when Kirk Dillard said this of Bruce Rauner?
“He’s an insider to the max. He’s the worst kind of insider — the one that does the buying,” he said.
- Cubs in '16 - Tuesday, Jun 5, 18 @ 2:49 pm:
Rauner’s statement doesn’t explain he’s a better choice than JB. You may not like the pre-Rauner ’status quo’ but it was a heck of a lot better than the past three plus years have been.

The truth about Rauner has got to be known by the people of Illinois. Rauner is a corrupt insider. He’s been part of the problem in Springfield for many, many years. He was tight with IPI, he’s was tight with Daley. He funded each of them in their political shenanigans. And Rauner, unfortunately is a tax dodger, to use a nice term for it. He bilked millions from pensions and various businesses, hides the money in the Caymans so he doesn’t pay his proper income taxes. Has cheated on his property taxes in Chicago. Conducted shady business deals on the porch of the Governor’s mansion in Springfield. He’s a corrupt, self-dealing insider. He’s part of the problem and we’ve got to get the truth about him known. - There I fix it.

OW, I almost agree with LP here, you do go after Diana a LOT. That being said, the allegations are all way over the top and frankly even if every word was true I would vote for JB, because Rauner’s temper tantrums almost destroyed the state. I don’t even think that’s hyperbole, billions of dollars have been burned and God knows how many people lost their jobs, how many businesses folded, because he hates unions and wants to destroy them. If I have to pick my poison I will pick “Not Rauner.”

==Governor, how did your daughter get into Payton Prep?==
“Like many parents who want to secure the best future possible for their children, I inquired with the leadership of the school and did everything in my power to advocate for my daughter. A working system can’t rely on parents being told not to advocate for their kids. Instead, a working system must rely on public leaders and officials taking ownership for their choices. I didn’t have the power to put my daughter anywhere without the consent of CPS. CPS chose to advantage many students, and I demand that Rahm kick off a full investigation into what other practices CPS allows for.”

That’s because Diana Rauner is a woman, and it’s easier to attack women. That’s how men have always acted and always will.
- Lucky Pierre - Tuesday, Jun 5, 18 @ 2:57 pm:
Do you remember the last “softball or hardball” radio interview Speaker Madigan or Senator Cullerton did over the past 3 1/2 years?
Me neither
- Anonymous - Tuesday, Jun 5, 18 @ 2:59 pm:
Sorry, I must have missed the story where Pritzker used Madigan’s law firm. Oh right, I missed it because it didn’t happen.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jun 5, 18 @ 3:00 pm:
===you do go after Diana a LOT.===
As a lifelong Democrat, Diana Rauner is now a top GOP
donor, and as a president of a social service, Diana Rauner stood with the premise that suing her husband to save these agencies was a business decision.
According to news reports and outlets, Diana Rauner is very closely entangled in the interworkings of the Administration, and via emails, very involved with messaging and policy.
If Diana Rauner wants me to take serious her role at The Ounce, then her quotes that seem to refute the Governor’s assertion of a person is fair game. Diana Rauner is being quoted from her “day job”. The Ounce sent it out, it wasn’t a question that someone asked and she answered on the fly.
So, all that said, and asking those that got fired and replaced by IPI people that lasted weeks, because Diana felt better messaging was needed, I feel comfortable asking how one can reconcile Bruce’s quote and Diana’s quote. Who is right?
- So_Ill - Tuesday, Jun 5, 18 @ 3:02 pm:
Well, he’s not Bruce Rauner, so he has my vote.

“Your tax returns, your homeowner exemptions, they all list your actual residence as Winnetka. We’re you gaming the CPS residency requirement the whole four years she attended too?”
- the Patriot - Tuesday, Jun 5, 18 @ 3:39 pm:
Rauner knows what works. He knows that an overwhelming majority of residents of this state will vote for anyone other than Mike Madigan.
Yes, he is terrible, but facts are facts. Democrats have decided to let Madigan take the ship into the iceberg so that leaves them open to tactics that seem idiotic.
Because JB will not commit to holding Madigan accountable on the budget and not returning to Madigan’s favored tax and spend policy, Rauner has a shot and JB knows it. You don’t make 3 billion if your an idiot and no idiot wastes a 100 million on a campaign you can’t lose.

How did Governor Rauner’s daughter get into Payton Prep?
Future US secretary of Education Arnie Duncan decided to admit her
Why did President Obama choose such a “corrupt insider” to be the Cabinet member in charge of Education in America for 6 years?

lol

It’s a lot easier to point the finger when you’re outside looking in. Gonna be some real schadenfreude when the Pritzker campaign uses Rauner’s 2014 failure theme against him this time around.

Literally every candidate for Governor will be someone “other than Mike Madigan”.

Didn’t he inherit the first billion or so? I dunno, I don’t mean to presume, but I bet I could get pretty close to 3 billion if I started out with 1.

Sugar Corn, Stu Levine cast one, only one, vote for Rauner and GTCR. That fund, like most of GTCR’s funds, made the State pensions a lot of money, about 2.5 times their investment and a 20 percent return. No allegations of improper conduct were ever lodged against Rauner or GTCR by anyone, including Levine, who was throwing anyone else he could remember under the bus in an effort to save his own neck.
- Huh? - Tuesday, Jun 5, 18 @ 5:00 pm:
1.4% doesn’t have any accomplishments to run on. All he can do is try to smear anybody and everybody.
Madigan isn’t running in a statewide race. So nobody outside his district can vote for or against him.

==Levine cast one, only one, vote for Rauner and GTCR. ==
You omitted some details.
Namely, Levine was on the GTCRauner payroll. While on a state board making decisions about big GTCR contracts with the state.
Shouldn’t he have recused himself from any vote on GTCR? Shouldn’t Rauner have demanded that? Any person of integrity would have.
