“The US Senate isn’t true representation. The House has districts, the Senate, everyone gets 2, big states, small states, what about the people in those states.”
I can’t think of any specific instances offhand but it typically starts with.. “but hillary *insert off topic item that is not relevance to what is being discussed*”
I agree with the whole “Keep your government hands of my Medicare” the poor old dear was a little confused.
A runner up would be when someone asked me how thousands of US Representatives could fit into one room in Capitol Hill. I stared at him, and told him there were 435 reps, at which point he started talking about how that makes no sense because of the size of the US. He didn’t realize that Congress capped the size of the House to prevent just the question he was asking about. I get not knowing the history, and I give him credit for knowing how it was originally set up, but how many people don’t know how many reps there are in the House?
Perrid - even though I work in politics I tend to fraternize with mostly non-political types. I am often asked how many state Senators and Reps we have. And this is from people who live in the Springfield area.
Is the governor running that warning warning Sam McCann is mike madigan favorite republican?
You know the one he used against Ives and the one used by that one guy that ran against McCann
I agree strongly with six of the ostensibly goofy comments above, which probably says something about me. I thought the Obama/Dijon mustard stuff was really weird and bad.
==“This year ALL 435 members of the House of Representatives will be up for reelection”==
I get your 4th grade civics lesson, but many GOP members of the House chose not to seek reelection.
So when is the last time all 435 sought reelection? Not one retirement?
Something I have heard multiple people say in regards to Rauner goes along the lines of “yeah, I don’t like him, but Illinois spending is out of control, and we do need someone like him to rein it in.”
[Day after Trump elected] “Can’t we (third coast, east coast, west coast, blue states) just break off in to a separate country?” This person was so distraught that I felt I couldn’t remind her right then and there about the disaster that ensued when that was tried in 1861.
Back to the actual question - in the 1972 presidential election, when one of my Republican relatives said she was voting for McGovern because his father was a minister, so he was closer to God
“I hate negative campaigning.” Immediately followed by “I’m not voting for x representative, he did x, y and z”. (Listing what was in the most recent negative mailer).
