*** UPDATE *** From DPI executive director Rep. Christian Mitchell…

Tim is not involved in any campaign activity. Tim has been back to the office four times to clean out 20 years’ worth of files, and he completed that process yesterday.

I think “How long does it take to cleanup your desk?” is a good enough caption to win the contest before it even starts…

  2. - 47th Ward - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:17 pm:

Of course Mapes is in the office. The Chairman wanted to talk to him about this Pelko business.

What? You think they’re going to chat on the phone or send e-mails? Lol.

  3. - Chicago Cynic - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:18 pm:

Supposedly former Democratic Party of Illinois Executive Director busted for ghost-jobbing. Ghost payrollers are very confused and think Mapes is doing it all wrong.

  4. - Perrid - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:18 pm:

“‘Gone but not forgotten’ only works if you actually LEAVE, Tim”
    or
Mr. Mapes is now truly a volunteer

  5. - LizPhairTax - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:18 pm:

    noted

  6. - Real - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:18 pm:

He could be helping to train his replacement.

  7. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:19 pm:

    “Free Parking”

  8. - City Zen - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:19 pm:

Is it safe to assume his vehicle is the one with the license plate “CHIEF”?

  9. - 47th Ward - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:19 pm:

Can’t believe he didn’t take the handicapped spot. After all, he tripped over his own ego and ended up disabling his career.

  10. - Skeptic - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:21 pm:

Maybe he’s like Columbo… “Oh, and one more thing…”

  11. - Arthur Andersen - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:23 pm:

Mapes drives a junior brodozer? I had him pegged as a hybrid guy.

“They said Chief Illiniwek was gone, too”

  12. - OneMan - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:23 pm:

    They needed a 4th for bridge…

  13. - wordslinger - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:24 pm:

    Dibs in perpetuity.

  14. - Arthur Andersen - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:25 pm:

“The DPI has its work cut out for it”

  15. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:28 pm:

    Vanity… plates.

  16. - FDB - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:28 pm:

No, no, no, you misunderstand. The truck was passed down to Rep. Mitchell as is customary

  17. - Rich Miller - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:30 pm:

“Tim, Kelly Cassidy just called. She wants to know why you’re still working here.”

  18. - illini - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:33 pm:

@ArthurAndersen - there are those of us who will remember Chief Illiniwek far longer than we will remember Tim Mapes

  19. - Colin O'Scopy - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:33 pm:

Let’s not jump to conclusion….maybe he was merely getting a haircut at the “Famous Salon”.

  20. - 47th Ward - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:34 pm:

Whoever it was, they put the earnest young female employee’s allegations under the passenger’s side. But what they didn’t know, what nobody outside the factory knew, was that this model car was made with a metal plate under the driver’s seat. It’s the only thing that saved his life. The explosive charges were never disputed, but I suspect we know who lit the fuse. And so did the powers that be.

  21. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:34 pm:

“It’s odd. It comes here, no driver, no one in the car. It parks, idles, like it’s weeping, and slowly backs out of the spot and then slowly drives away. Like a lost puppy.”

  22. - City Zen - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:35 pm:

    ==Dibs in perpetuity==

Dibs shall not be diminished or impaired.

  23. - Anonymous - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:35 pm:

Give him a break. He’s still trying to locate all of the mustache wax he hid about the office.

  24. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:37 pm:

He took a new title. He’s now food and beverage chairman.

  27. - Smitty Irving - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:44 pm:

    Rich -
The Sasha Semenoff Orchestra and the Tim Mapes Dancers?

  28. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:45 pm:

    Thank you, appreciate that.

    “QOTD?”

They thought they only had to worry about Chuck Goudy and parking lots… they were wrong.

  29. - Soapbox Derby - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:46 pm:

Expect him to be around till after the election at least, but from now on he’ll just get a ride, or take an Uber.

  30. - Anonymous - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:50 pm:

Hey, Tim. How long you gonna use the “Chief” plates? ‘Chief’ of what, exactly?

  31. - Northsider (the original) - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:50 pm:

    It’s a little stalky.

  32. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:53 pm:

Leave the resignation. Take the cannoli.

    (Abandons truck)

  33. - Anon - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 2:58 pm:

Time for a new license plate, wonder if NOTED is taken.

  34. - Just Me - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 3:08 pm:

Is his resignation letter still “under review”?

  35. - Flat Bed Ford - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 3:10 pm:

Tim Mapes and the Christian Mitchell he controls.
    /not snark

  36. - VanillaMan - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 3:12 pm:

Now he knows how Sorrell Booke felt after “The Dukes of Hazzard” was cancelled.

    Personal files?

  39. - Archpundit - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 3:17 pm:

  40. - Arthur Andersen - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 3:22 pm:

“Hello Jesse, could you tell me if license plate “RAUNER” is taken?”

  41. - Annonin' - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 3:26 pm:

Good to see GovJunk deployin’ $$$ in every way possible. Continuin’ the exit interview tour.

  42. - mocking jay - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 3:35 pm:

Maybe someone should have cleaned it out for him…Just sayin.

  43. - Sonny - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 3:58 pm:

They are extending every courtesy to him they never extended to anyone who didn’t perfectly toe the line much less someone who hosed them x 10,000,000. Seems totally fair and not at all weird and clubby.

  44. - We'll See - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 4:04 pm:

“During the custody battle, Tim sought and received visitation rights to his second favorite parking spot; his parking at the Capital was retained by the Speaker.”

  45. - Soccermom - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 4:09 pm:

City Zen, I shrieked with laughter.

  46. - peteypablo - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 4:21 pm:

Little known fact Mapes is a terrible map drawer. He will need to make one last trip to return the shovel.

  47. - DuPage Bard - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 4:28 pm:

Isn’t there a Denny’s or some greasy spoon down the street he can go to right around the corner? Meet everyone there?

  48. - Louis G. Atsaves - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 4:33 pm:

Ahern’s tweet is dated August 6th. That’s today. Assuming the photo was taken today, and Mapes completed his process yesterday, explain why the truck is there today?

So when was that photo taken?

  49. - Arthur Andersen - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 4:38 pm:

“At least my plate isn’t a sexually suggestive number”

  50. - Rich Miller - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 4:44 pm:

AA, he now has 67. lol

  51. - Arthur Andersen - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 4:47 pm:

Rich, thanks for the update. :)

  52. - wordslinger - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 4:56 pm:

–Assuming the photo was taken today, and Mapes completed his process yesterday, explain why the truck is there today?–

LOL, how did Mueller not hire a crimefighter like you?

Her tweet says “repeated sightings.” I’m pretty sure that doesn’t mean all on the same day.

  53. - wordslinger - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 4:57 pm:

–AA, he now has 67. –

You’re kidding? Someone used to have the other one?

  54. - Flat Bed Ford - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 5:40 pm:

Mapes needs to get all his “files” so he can start Mapes Consulting and keep on keepin’ on. Nothing will change at DPI.

  55. - Not It - Monday, Aug 6, 18 @ 9:35 pm:

Since the taxpayers paid for Tim’s salary both as COS and DPI’s Exec Dir. (since he was a “volunteer” for DPI), I have to ask how he is being paid to clean out his desk this week.

Is he collecting his pension already and now double-dipping?

Does he have any lobbyist contracts yet? Maybe he can work for Steve Brown’s hugely sucessful lobbying firm.

  56. - Seymourkid - Tuesday, Aug 7, 18 @ 9:48 am:

I hope no one has been endangered by revealing their work place, personal vehicle and plate numbers.
