What would a day be without yet another Illinois State Fair #facepalm?

Wednesday, Aug 15, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller

* From the Illinois State Fair’s official map

AFUCIO? I won’t even try to guess the hidden meaning of that typo, especially considering the governor’s antipathy toward organized labor (and please don’t “go there” in comments, either).

But, hey, at least they spelled “pavilion” right.

Also, if you look at the map, the Secretary of State’s tent is listed, but the location is not marked on the map itself.

At some point, I have to believe it’s one person with no supervision producing these things. A fourth grade intern prrhaps.

  2. - Bruce (no not him) - Wednesday, Aug 15, 18 @ 10:00 am:

No hidden meaning. It’s right there in the open.

I’m pretty sure I’ve heard “afucio” exclaimed in the Sicilian scenes in GFII, right before someone gets it.

    “Afucio, Don Ciccio…”

  4. - A guy - Wednesday, Aug 15, 18 @ 10:05 am:

It appears the AFUCIO is AL FRESCO at least.

  5. - Montrose - Wednesday, Aug 15, 18 @ 10:05 am:

I’ve decided there is a state fair employee that is a loyal CapFax and is purposely doing these typos to see if they end up on the blog everyday. It is the only logical explanation.

  6. - Menardian - Wednesday, Aug 15, 18 @ 10:10 am:

Much as I’d like to blame this too on the current administration, state fair schedules and maps have been riddled with errors for decades. They’re put together by people for whom this isn’t their regular job, and it shows.

AFUCIO; what you say to your accountant at tax time.

  8. - Yiddishcowboy - Wednesday, Aug 15, 18 @ 10:44 am:

“Afucio” (first person, present) comes from the Spanish verb “afuciar” which means to not properly proofread a document…or “to act a fool” in certain Sputh American countries.

  9. - Yiddishcowboy - Wednesday, Aug 15, 18 @ 10:46 am:

South… (No afucio muy bien aparentemente.)

  10. - Dance Band on the Titanic - Wednesday, Aug 15, 18 @ 10:46 am:

Hey, at least they got the A, B, C, D and E in the correct order.

  11. - zatoichi - Wednesday, Aug 15, 18 @ 10:53 am:

AFUCIO: what the crowd says when they light the cheese in an Italian restaurant.

  12. - Dog Lover - Wednesday, Aug 15, 18 @ 10:58 am:

    AFUCIO
    Gesundheit

  13. - Huh? - Wednesday, Aug 15, 18 @ 11:42 am:

I wonder if the typos were caught by the print shop. When questioned, the client told the printers to make the run as presented.

  14. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Aug 15, 18 @ 11:51 am:

Afucio is actually the little village in Italy where Bruce and Di want to settle down next year.

The one page fair map was so small I could not read it and could not locate anything. Maybe I am just old. The booklet they gave out and the map were inconsistent and had different names for the same buildings. They labeled buildings and assigned letters differently to the same building. It was not user friendly to a person who is not readily familiar with the fair.

On the other hand, The info people at the fair booths, employees, State Police and others could not be more friendly, professional and helpful.

As usual, our strengths are our people. Our failures are state bureaucrats.

It was definitely a state run operation.

    AFLCIO LABOR PAVILION

  18. - City Zen - Wednesday, Aug 15, 18 @ 2:45 pm:

I bless the rains down in Afucio.
