Question of the day
Thursday, Aug 23, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller
* Press release…
Today, Orland Park Trustee and Republican State Treasurer candidate, Jim Dodge, challenged his opponent – incumbent Treasurer Mike Frerichs – to a series of debates.
“The voters deserve to hear where we stand on the issues of importance to Illinoisans. I challenge my opponent, Mike Frerichs, to agree to a series of at least three debates,” said Dodge.
“Our state is facing serious challenges, challenges that require leadership in Springfield that is committed to finding real solutions, not simple political posturing,” continued Dodge. “The job of Treasurer, especially given the fiscal crisis we face, is a critical one. I would hope that my opponent would be willing to stand before the voters, exchange ideas, debate policy and lay out his vision for the future.”
“I urge my opponent and his campaign to work with my campaign to put together a series of debates across this state that will give voters the opportunity to take the measure of both of us and decide who best should represent them as Treasurer,” concluded Dodge.

- TheOrlandParker - Thursday, Aug 23, 18 @ 3:07 pm:
Jim Dodge couldn’t carry Mike Frerich’s water (or reach it for that matter).
Frerichs should ask Dodge, “As a Republican candidate for trustee, how much tax payer funded money did the Village of Orland Park put forward to subsidize Ninety7Fifty Rental Apartments? And how is your return on investment thus far?”
- not again - Thursday, Aug 23, 18 @ 3:08 pm:
The voters honestly deserve the chance to never think about this office. Should be combined with comptroller or appointed position.
- RNUG - Thursday, Aug 23, 18 @ 3:11 pm:
== Should be combined with comptroller or appointed position. ==
Because of past actions, it needs to continue to be separate.

Much like presidential debates that will focus on foreign policy or the economy, Dodge proposes specific topics for each debate:
Debate 1: College Savings plans
Debate 2: ICash
Debate 3: AgInvest
Debate 4: Types of accounts money should be held in short term
Debate 5: Hoping Frerichs can tell him what else the state Treasurer does
Debate 6: Consoldusating with the Comptrollers office (tag team debate of Dodge and Senger vs Frerichs and Mendoza… Mendoza never tags Frerichs in)

- Spliff - Thursday, Aug 23, 18 @ 3:16 pm:
Wait, Jim Dodge has a campaign? I think Frerichs should counter with a minimum of 10 debates. At least one in every media market in the state.

Dodge implying that Frerichs is avoiding him? Sounds like Dodge is just mouthing stuff like a western gunfighter calling for that noon showdown.

- 13thone - Thursday, Aug 23, 18 @ 3:51 pm:
Treasurer Frerichs should hold three pieces of paper with an address (debate location) on each one over his head. And then taunt Dodge by saying if you can reach one I’ll debate you there. After what seems like an eternity, Dodge will take a short walk into the sunset.

- West Wing - Thursday, Aug 23, 18 @ 4:16 pm:
It appears Dodge isn’t dodging a debate.
Mike Frerichs needs to remind Mr. Dodge that the real dodger is Governor Rauner who, I think, has never consulted with the state’s chief investment officer, Treasurer Frerichs. The public official who needs a lecture on dodging debate is this governor - Bruce Rauner.

This is fascinating. Until this story, I had no idea that the GOP had a candidate for the office.
Well, know that we know that both parties have a candidate, is there anything else that voters really need to know?

===Because of past actions, it needs to continue to be separate.===
RNUG with all due respect, accounting system internal controls have come a long way since Orville Hodge. The transparency of transactions, electronic review/approval of transactions before they are approved, etc. negate the need for separate treasurer/comptroller offices.

Dodge was state pres of IL Young GOPers years ago. Based on his hairline im guessing his role there is done. I have seen him speak and he would be a formidable debater…if this goes off the Frerich should not take it lightly.

You realize the village sold their interest last year and had a net gain of a little over $2 million when all was said and done, right? I didn’t much care for that whole thing, but it seems you’re off base on this.

1) this dodge guy
2) the lady who works for Rauner running for comptroller but not Munger, the other one
