* I have to take Oscar for a haircut and run another quick errand. Not sure when I’ll be back. Please keep it Illinois-centric and be nice to each other. Thanks.

*** UPDATE *** He’s so cute…

Just thinking - it has been quite a while since you have posted a picture of Oscar. We always enjoy those pictures.

Illini - they’re the only part of this blog that isn’t depressing.

Yes, I would love to see a before and after.

I was thinking the same thing as illini. How about showing us his new haircut?

This Sunday is August 26, the 200th anniversary of the adoption of Illinois’s first constitution. Springfield is having an event to open the Bicentennial Plaza next to the Illinois Realtors Association. Anything else going on?

    Two hundred years of Illinois…

… and they said it couldn’t be done…

    I kid… I’m kidding… it’s a joke.

I don’t understand why pitchers continue to throw fastballs anywhere near the strike zone to Javy Baez. Is it a macho thing? Last night’s tater was a moon shot.

The book is he ain’t going to take a walk. Breaking stuff in the dirt, he’ll swing at.

In the biggest upset since Truman beat Dewey Rauner wins. do you think Bruce would really call Cullerton and Madigan this time?

Kass’ column on immigration today in the Trib is further evidence of his inane, shameful hackery. If I didn’t read the WSJ editorial pages regularly, I could easily declare him the worst columnist in America.

@SteveRogers - Rauner is campaigning on his motocycle down Route 66 on Sunday in an event that he has somehow connected to the bicentennial. Also supposed to be giving out free barbecue at the governor’s mansion.

Not Illinois Centric, but its an unbelievingly heartbreaking day with the news about Sen. John McCain.

Yesterday,Hamels threw the first Cubs complete game of the year. This date, 50 years ago, Gibson threw his 22nd complete game of the year. Man. Do I miss a 2hr and 15 minute game.

  22. - wordslinger - Friday, Aug 24, 18 @ 11:40 am:

Cole Hamels really takes the sting out of the Jake/Darvish fiasco. The old man makes it look easy, like he’s pitching from a rocking chair.

In Theo I trust, but there’s a good long-form New Yorker piece in how the Cubs ended up signing Darvish for six years while Jake ended up in Philly for only three years guaranteed. I don’t think anyone wanted it to go down that way, except for Darvish.

    –Wordslinger,

Thanks, I tried. Way too baseball nerdy, even for me.

who’s a good boy? Oscar says Rich is a good boy.

  28. - Lester Holt’s Mustache - Friday, Aug 24, 18 @ 1:48 pm:

So Rich - our Sox now have young Kopech, Texas fireballer and purported teen poster of racist messages. Do I cheer for him, boo him or abstain from either for a period of time? I want to give the kid the benefit of the doubt, but I was also pretty merciless in my mocking of Brewers fans over the Josh Hader stuff, so…….you know, awkward

  29. - Responsa - Friday, Aug 24, 18 @ 2:00 pm:

He’s a cutie for sure, but a question, Rich. How much does an Oscar haircut cost these days? (Just trying to figure out how much dough we’ve saved over the years by owning Labrador Retrievers.)

  30. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 24, 18 @ 2:14 pm:

Oscar looks like a million bucks…

He’s a good boy. Brings a smile whenever he’s around.

  31. - BlueDogDem - Friday, Aug 24, 18 @ 2:58 pm:

OK Rich. Who spit shines the floor?
